Still the dated white plastic look...
I wish they would update the Airport, Airport Express, and Time Capsule to the silver and shiny black look, the white is really old at this point.

You know the AExpress isn't really a centerpiece so who cares? Why waste money on the development costs?

Encasing any wireless router in any kind of metal degrades the signal quite a bit.

The Airtunes is meant mostly as a mobile device.Take it with you,put it in your patio area for parties etc..

Would this work just as well as my built-in output for surround sound via VLC/dvd player? (5.1)
I've also been wondering this. One of these days I'd like to turn my G4 Mini into a media server, and I think wireless streaming to a surround sound receiver via the AE and AirFoil would be great (the G4 Mini has no digital audio out). However, I haven't found any answers on whether true surround sound could be achieved.

Anyone have any ideas?

I got the first airport express off the truck. So glad I get the extended signal radius and amazing speed boost on my MacBook

But I have my Brother 640 multi-function connected to my AE and I can use the scanning feature just fine. In fact it scans exactly as it would if I were to do it via usb as does the printing. We have two Macs connected to the AE and use the Brother with it via Leopard, XP and Vista in exactly the same way and it does everything it should.

You were lucky to pick up a well supported wireless scanner then, MOST scanners will not work. :(

I have two BASIC questions and hope that you guys can help me out. I've just bought an Apple TV here in the States (am on vacation here) and have an iMac G5 at home with Airport Extreme (the "g" version).

My question is: would AE be able to use my 5Mbps cable connection and be RESPONSIBLE for the streaming of content to my Apple TV? Or is it always dependent on wireless speed of the host computer (my iMac)?

Second question: is Apple TV (with its "n" speed) able to, in conjunction with the new Airport Express, use the Ethernet connection of my iMac and do streaming at "n" speeds? If this were possible I wouldn't be bound by "g" speeds when using it for streaming content, I presume...

Thanks in advance! :)

It is only a $99, do you really need a bigger discount, you can set up an entire Wireless-N network for $99, could you ask them to make it any cheaper?

yea a better discount would be nice, seeing that im in the market and could have bought yesterdays model with an education discount. it seems more and more items are being dropped from the edu special pricing.

Apparently not everybody is as rich as you. I'll buy 10 of these if they are $5 each. :D

Actually, condolences to you ;)

US $ 99,- = AU $ 105,68. So, if the Aiport Express will be sold in Oz for AU $ 99,-, it will be a US $ 6,38 reduction to the Aussie chap ;)

It might be condolences to us Europeans as well though; as € 99,- = US $ 156,12. If Apple really used price parity, they should sell the Airport Express over here for about € 75,- (= US $ 99,- = € 62,78 + 19% taxes).

I think I'll wait a while and buy it in Sydney instead ;)

Wrong. The exchange rate makes no difference to the price you actually pay. If the U.S. dollar suddenly shot up to €2 tomorrow, you would still have the exact same amount of money in your bank account, you would still be earning the same wages, and you would be paying exactly the same amount for your Apple products. All this despite the fact that you would be getting your Airport Express for "half" what we're paying in the U.S., instead of "50% more". The exchange rate only matters if you are actually changing money, and for broad effects on imports and exports. Yes, Apple uses the exchange rate to set its prices abroad, but you have to figure out whether the price is good in your own currency, not by how it stacks up against the dollar. If it's more expensive compared to other goods and services in your own country than it is here, that's one thing (and it's probably because of Apple's costs in exporting stuff), but the exchange rate is irrelevant to that determination.

Has anyone picked one up already ?
Are they supposed to be in stock in Apple shops already ? What about the Best Buy and other Fry's ?

Thx

I ordered mine 30 minutes ago online. Instantly after ordering it, I already felt a little regret, wishing I paid the extra amount to get the airport extreme. So after sitting around a little more, I decided to try to change my order.

I called the apple store and the representative picked up after half a ring(wow!). I told her what I wanted instead and she said it's already too late as they have prepared the package for shipment already(another wow!) I asked if there was anything she could do since I only ordered it around 20 minutes ago and she said no. I wasn't depressed or angry and was ready to thank her for her fast service. But then out of nowhere, she said she will take $50.00 off my purchase price, and now my final cost is 49.99. I was a little confused and I still am. Oh well. apple made my day

What to do...

Hmmm... I just got my (old version) today...

Worth sending back do you think?

Lack of gigabit is lame but as with the AEBS, I suspect this will be added in about 6-8 months time. I regularly get 240+mbps on my AEBS so if you are using the AE to connect two or more computers together, this will cause slowdowns. No diff for internet access, of course.

It wont make much of a difference because 802.11n is the bottleneck. We need faster internet, what is the next thing coming up? How about 802.11Z?
