It will still be out of sync with the movie. Unless you can develop a way to make the audio play ahead of the video to account for the delay.

N isn't even out of draft yet. Don't count on the next iteration soon.

Not exactly true :

Tuesday, Friday and Now Monday... Where is the predictability in that.

I preferred my weekly Tuesday "the apple store is down!" threads, now things could change at any time, and I wouldn't know...

I know what you mean. Every Tuesday I react like Pavlov's dog when the bell rang.

VLC has that as an option. You can desync the audio from the video and delay it as needed. I did it as an experiment when I got my first AirPort Express.

I said not "exactly" true :)

In context to the "current" draft 2.0 which most of us are now using the draft 3.0 will be much different than 2.0 which imho is a "next iteration".

Next iteration, IE 802.11P or whatever. Not the next iteration of the draft.

I ordered mine 30 minutes ago online. Instantly after ordering it, I already felt a little regret, wishing I paid the extra amount to get the airport extreme. So after sitting around a little more, I decided to try to change my order.

I called the apple store and the representative picked up after half a ring(wow!). I told her what I wanted instead and she said it's already too late as they have prepared the package for shipment already(another wow!) I asked if there was anything she could do since I only ordered it around 20 minutes ago and she said no. I wasn't depressed or angry and was ready to thank her for her fast service. But then out of nowhere, she said she will take $50.00 off my purchase price, and now my final cost is 49.99. I was a little confused and I still am. Oh well. apple made my day

nice dude!

Just a quick question for those who have the older generation or intend on purchasing this new one, how do you use it? Exactly what is the placement/application. I'm thinking this is a nice addition to the night side table with some discrete speakers. I could also see these in the kitchen instead of a analog radio. Bathroom too?

I keep the Express router in b/g mode (so I can connect my Wii and two Nintendo DSs which are b-only) and play iTunes on the stereo. It connects to my AP Extreme (g only mode) as WDS. The Extreme serves all of the Macs.

What's the difference between the airport express and the airport extreme now that they both go to "n" speeds?

An Ethernet switch, more clients, and the supposedly functional AirDisk. The Extreme also supports more DHCP options and other insignificant (to most) features.

My question is: would AE be able to use my 5Mbps cable connection and be RESPONSIBLE for the streaming of content to my Apple TV? Or is it always dependent on wireless speed of the host computer (my iMac)?

Yes. The streaming to your AppleTV is from your host computer. So it will be at the speed of the slowest link from your host computer to the AppleTV. If they're both N-wireless, it will be the speed of N-wireless.
Second question: is Apple TV (with its "n" speed) able to, in conjunction with the new Airport Express, use the Ethernet connection of my iMac and do streaming at "n" speeds?

Yes.

I have the 1st gen Express. All users in the home, and any visitors who use an MB or MBP can use it to print and play itunes. I also use the Express to extend the range of my Airport Extreme.

I plug my Epson through the USB port and my stereo into the audio port. Plug and play. Very very simple.

no mere Ed. discount

My apologies if already posted, but it appears the education discount does not apply to the new model. It had been available at $89, but now only comes up at $99.

I haven't ever seen this asked, can you plug a game system (original Xbox or PS2) into it and use it as a wireless adapter? Pure curiosity, not sure if I would do it or not. Could you hook a NAS up to it via the ethernet port, this would be more like what I would do with it. A NAS and a printer, that would be really nice.

Thanks
Christopher

I use one of my AirPort Express units in extended mode, hooked via ethernet into my XBox 360, and have a very pleasant time on XBox Live.

They have them on the shelves here in the Otay Ranch Store in Chula Vista, CA. Come one down if you want one.

That's a big no.

But I have my Brother 640 multi-function connected to my AE and I can use the scanning feature just fine. In fact it scans exactly as it would if I were to do it via usb as does the printing. We have two Macs connected to the AE and use the Brother with it via Leopard, XP and Vista in exactly the same way and it does everything it should.

That will only happen if the all-in-one printer's drivers/software supports networking. Most all-in-ones do not support this.

Probably the easiest way to tell is if your all-in-one has an ethernet and/or wireless built-in. Odds are without that, it won't support networking.

I have a brother MFC 440CN running off of mine with no problems

Hmm, so that's some yeses and some nos. Interesting that both yeses are people with Brother multifunction devices.

Well, at least there's hope! :)

Wow !! You lucky guy !:D
I want to try it as well since I suffer from the same guilt (honestly, I just placed the order) :D

How many Expresses do you have? Do you have one designated for a printer? And the other one for the XBox? Is the audio of the XBox through the Express (and your stereo - is that even possible?) or through your TV speakers?
