I don’t have a microwave oven. I do have an RF/EF/EMF meter and know how to use it, so I’m pretty aware of exposure levels in different settings and distances from source.

It’s absolutely fine if others disagree or even scoff. I speak only for myself when I say I would never wear such a thing on my head. You’re free to do as you wish 👍

oAny chance you were a tin foil cap too?

i am not scoffing, just pointing out you are talking without any data. I am a data person myself. Doom and gloom is easy. You might have the last length, but i suspect genetics has a lot more to say about lifetime than any of this meter stuff.

and yep, i am typing this while taking my life in my hands by wearing my AVP. While watching the superbowl. while chatting in discord with a friend about the game. Oh yes, so isolating lol

What's the point of buying iPad instead of MacBook if both can run macOS.
iPad is a dying product segment, will still have its niche market (kids & non-tech savvy people) due to its simplfied OS.

Vision Pro will replace your iPad as coach/bed computer.

Non-tech savvy people and niche market shouldn’t be in the same sentence. Most of the population isn’t tech savvy in the way people on this forum is. I do agree though that the AVP will probably replace the iPad eventually.

If somehow through nanobots or Star Trek replicators the Apple Vision Pro can be the size of the Bigscreen Beyond it would be a killer.

Is the spatial video from the iPhone really that good on the Vision Pro? As someone who is a photographer, it seemed gimmicky because the spatial separation between the lenses is much lower than human eyes (which would, to my understanding, limit the 3D effect vs. recording with the Vision Pro) and it’s cropping in on the wide angle lens for one side which is typically grainier, especially in low light conditions such as indoors.
Is it perfect? No, not close. 4K or 8k would help. But it is available now, on the phone I had at Christmas, in my hand. That counts for a lot. I a, glad to have a few minutes of it from the holidays last year vs none. 😀.

Whether it is vision Pro, or some other type of technology, eventually 3-D will be mainstream and I'll be glad to have some video in 3-D from this time period.

There is sooooooooooo much more use case for a wearable you use 24/7. It’s not even in the same league.

It can be an AI assistant which you don’t need to pick up your iPhone and look down to get results.
It can be an image based search engine that won’t occupy any of your hands to hold.
It can be a real time translator what works all time, passively.
It can recognize music all the time.. again.
It can display navigation info in real life, with out you needing to pull your iPhone out.
You can find digital exhibits on street, that’s a new art medium for you.
It knows who you are talking with in noisy restaurants, and pass their voice directly to you through speakers.
You can apple pay with qr code by looking at the pos machine.
You can see menus, you can see food in 3D to know the portions.

There is so much you can achieve on a wearable device that lot of people can wear 24/7, compared to Vision Pro

No one wants to live inside a helmet. This isn’t Star Wars.

Remember the iPhone didn't even have an App Store or a front camera. AVP v1.0 is a grand experiment. Cramming as much tech into a consumer device as they can and pushing a lot of that tech beyond it's limits. I would say it will take 5 years for this to me both affordable and appealing.

They just have to loose the 1950s scuba look and it would be a major achievement

I did immediately feel like it would replace the iPad, when I started using it (Vision Pro). It's the device to take around the house away from your desktop and does so much more than iPad. Does it better too.

I love it, but it is uncomfortable and at day five, I have to use it less and less as my face hurts with even shorter sessions now.

Gurman is just spouting so much hot air… it does need to become lighter but the basic trade-offs and form factor of the device are set. To use it as a MR device you need the light seal, the lenses and so on.

Also the Vision Pro as the new iPad is laughable. The iPad is a successful 30 billion dollar a year business within Apple, shifting a lot more units at the 500-1000 dollar price bracket. The Vision Pro is much more expensive and much less convenient.

Maybe in 20 years time there will be a medical condition called Vision Pro face… people’s faces showing the signs of all day Vision Pro usage… permanently present on their faces 🥴

I really wonder about that… I mean if you’re wearing something like that all day and it leaves marks… what happens after 1, 2, 5 years of usage all day etc

A valid question

Even in Star Trek… they have the tech including a holo deck etc but still they used tablets and other handheld devices… it’s because they are so useful and more than one person can use and see the device at the same time 🤔

And it’s so natural to pick up a physical item and interact with it… I doubt tablets will ever be replaced by Vision Pro..

Anything trying to replace the Mac is doomed to fail. If the intent of the iPad was for it to replace the Mac, it was never going to happen. If the VP is intended as a Mac replacement it will also fail. The Mac has a physical keyboard and mouse with a full file system. These virtual touch inputs are no substitute for any of this. If anything, the VP is even less suitable with its floating keyboard. It’s way less anccurate than both the iPad and iPhone in this regard. And if the solution is using it with a physical keyboard as many people are doing, then what is the point? The iPad with a physical keyboard is basically a neutered Mac laptop that accomplished nothing particularly well.
Ummm the Vision Pro also works with a wireless keyboard and mouse and trackpad. I actually think the Vision Pro with the wireless keyboard is the optimal setup.

Exactly. So if I have apps that aren’t on the Vision Pro I need my Mac for, I still need my Mac. So I’m going to have to take my Mac and a Vision Pro traveling. And then I have to keep my laptop open enough to use the keyboard and the trackpad….

Nope. The vast majority of the people said, ‘never get fired ordering blue (PC)’. The vast majority talked about how much cheaper PC‘s were, how much easier to use a text line interface, etc. The ’cult’ which btw, is rarely the majority, did like it. I was one of them. But dont ever mistake the few faithful with being well received. There was a reason Apple nearly died several times. Saying thats not so doesnt make it factual either :)

Mac sold 70k units in 100 days. There’s always naysayers but the Mac was a success. ”People said that about Mac” when talking about the Vision is more false than true. It’s a false equivalency.

But you should also be carrying your iPad Pro and Magic Keyboard (now starting at 499)… throw in the new Apple Pencil a few spare batteries for the Vision Pro (so it lasts as long on the road as your iPad and Mac)

And in the meanwhile the shareholders were laughing all the way to the bank

😆🥴

You’d need your Mac anyways though. Would you take just an iPad traveling?

Seriously dude.... NO it won't. And not for $3500 currently.

The Vision Pro will never be a mainstream device, at least not in the next decade+. It just won't be. People don't want to put stuff on their head, just like no one wants to sit down and put on 3D glasses to watch a movie at home. We've been through this before. The coolness factor of this will wear off after a few months of use, and it will just sit on shelves.

In fact, people get contact lenses JUST so they don't even have to wear glasses!

And as as far as other comments, I agree:

- Windows 11 has turned to crap, which is a huge opportunity for Apple.

- The iPad is still crippled after all these years. Ans it's a M1 device! Missed opportunity by Apple, and it's no wonder the sales have gone down for it.

And I'm not saying Vision is dead... it's just a niche product. MORE niche than the Watch, iPad, and Mac. Apple has a looooong way to go to make it mainstream, if ever.
I wish I could say “ah stop you’re being myopic. Have an open mind!” But you’re right on every point. I don’t even like to wear a hat most of the time. To think I have to wear something heavy on my face that messes up my hair and have to do some cord management every single time with the power pack, and for that privilege I get to pay $4k for it? Yikes.

This is one of those things I would have thought they’d price it lower considering there’s some negatives to it that people would have to get used to. If it was $1500 we could all say yeah it hurts my head. But oh well it’s pretty cool. Or yeah the battery sucks. But ah oh well it’s neat. For 2500 you get to the point where you stop making excuses for it. For 3500? It’s going to be judged harsher no matter what.

Will be interesting to see where this goes in 5 years and how Apple adds to the vision line of products

If it was that size and a lower price it would catch on like wildfire. I liked those rumors about smaller glasses prototypes Apple was working on that offloaded most of the compute power to your iPhone. Makes total sense. Maybe we will get something like that down the line that’s kind of a watered down vision experience but better for most people
