I'm very happy with the Apple Watch as it is, but here's what I'd love to see:

Realistic expectations: 1. A-fib alert. This wouldn't require constant heart rate monitoring - every ten minutes is fine - but would alert if out of sinus rhythm.
2. Waterproof. I'd like to be able to swim with it.
3. New remote app for TV4

Pipe dream: Non-invasive glucose monitoring.

2. Waterproof. I'd like to be able to swim with it.
It's good enough for the pool. Just can't work the screen very well with a wet finger.

btw, those water droplets at 3 and 5 are on the outside of the glass, not inside.

-It needs to get faster
-It needs more sensors (for example GPS)
-It needs to be less reliant to the phone
-It needs to be (officially) water resistant so I can go swimming with it without having to worry.

The GPS and faster operation they can probably do. Cellular connectivity won't happen for two reasons: 1) It would require a whole new ATT/Verizon account for the watch, and would have associated data charges and fees 2) LTE Radios use a ton of power. it would make it easy to run your watch down within an hr.

Speed is key, it's gotta be 2-5x as fast as it is now for it to keep up with an iphone 6s. Right now I have both and the watch performs, in speed terms, on the level of a 2-3yr old iOS device while my iphone 6s feels like it's from the future.

I've had mine for 24 hours. Full wifi signal and none of my apps that I've installed open for at least 45-60 seconds. It's not a horrible device, I just don't feel that magical Apple fluidity and quality like I do on my iPhone and other devices. I'm returning it and waiting for the second generation.

I want the next generation of AW to be better as a watch, not a poor imitation of a phone.

For me, the number 1 thing I'd like to see is the ability for the watch to display the time all the time. As someone who used to wear a normal watch previously, I find having to flip my wrist whenever I want to see the time annoying and an AW should be able to perform as well as a normal watch in this regard.

After that - it needs GPS and waterproofing to make it a serious exercise watch, and apps need to load much quicker.

These are my thoughts exactly. In fact I doubt I will buy another AW until it has GPS and is waterproof. Then it will be able to replace my proper running watches. Even then though the fitness apps are rubbish compared to what the competition has. I can't see Fitbit or Garmin producing Apps for the watch so Apple has some work to do to make the Watch a proper fitness device.

Right about Garmin and Fitbit (and Suunto and Polar and others) -- they've got their own hardware to sell.

What would you change about the AW? Hardware, software, etc?

I wear my watch every night as my silent alarm and sleep tracking with sleep pulse. I charge my watch from 9-10pm as the only time I charge per day. I go to bed with a 100% charged watch and wake up with 91% because of sleep pulse or 95% without it. I finish the day with 40-50% at 9pm and it takes about an hour to charge.

I sometimes charge in the morning when I shower so at night I am at 50-60% by 9pm.

Wow Thanks for the heads up

I was a very happy Apple Watch owner for 3 days before I took it back. I just couldn't justify the high price tag for what the watch could do. For $400 I knew I could get a much nicer non-smart watch from a respectable brand. However, to this day, every time I see someone with an Apple Watch, I miss it. So if Apple can make the next model better, I will be 1st in line to get it.

There are plenty of things I would love to see but my top 3 would be:

1. Please, Please, Please, offer a round model! I understand some people like the square look but it would be nice if Apple let us choose. I'm sure the interface would translate to a round screen perfectly. Even as an Apple fan I must admit that I am jealous of the Samsung Gear S2.

2. This probably goes without saying, but the battery life has to improve immensely. It would be nice if we could go at least 3 days without charge under normal use. This way, the Apple Watch could be used to track sleeping cycles.

3. Either move the Sport model down market or create a new cheaper entry level model. $400 for the sport 42mm is just way too expensive for something that is supposed to be an entry level model. $250-$300 would be a lot more reasonable and I'm sure Apple would get a lot more sales. Apple could lower the entry price by creating a new Apple Watch trim that uses good quality but cheaper materials.

I just want it to read directions from maps. If I'm using it for GPS, I'm not wanting to risk reading the tiny screen.

Not legal to use cellphone in our city. Would be nice to use the speaker for directions from the watch.

it's a while since i drove but... are you saying it's not legal to have an iphone anywhere in your car??

if you start the directions before you go with your iphone, they'll mirror on your watch. you'll get the spoken notifications from the phone, and also the taptic feedback from the watch (and associated direction display on the watch too).

Apple watch 38mm screen face has 1285mm^2 of real estate. That would require a 40mm diameter round watch to achieve a similar amount of display space.

Apple watch 42mm screen face has 1508mm^2 of real estate. That would need a 44mm diameter round watch to achieve a similar amount of display space.

the latter is less of a problem but the former is already big for a lot of women.

And there'd be no corners (so no time in the top right of an app, and no app name in the top left - you'd maybe fit one in the middle)

And messages and so on would be cut off (like in android wear) or look funny.

I'm not saying it can't be done, but i don't think it would translate so well. Samsung have gone a completely different route and that's great for them, but I think it would be a completely separate fork of watchos to make a round one, and the UI consistency would be gone.

Sleep tracking for 2 days and then not the third? I think a week (or 15 minute fast charge?) else it's not worth it.

Cheaper materials than glass and a slightly-improved-version of the metal they also make cans of coke from?

More likely they just keep the sport 1 around longer and drop it's price, like they do with iphones and ipads. More than likely get rid of the gold and rose gold options, and keep the silver aluminium. Perhaps use them as a way to clear "last season's" sports bands from their inventory when they refresh them too.

More model for bigger size , Ultra thin for someone need dress watch .
More luxury , more marketing

i dont see any valid upgrades on this thread... sounds like people want a phone on their wrist. facetime camera?..come on u would need a 80mm for that. gps? who cares. people need to accept it for what it is..i know how you gadget heads are everyone knew the features before they bought it hoping they would like it and some now dont aftr spending 800 dollars

I agree, a band with the GPS chip/battery in it would be the best solution to the power consumption of a running watch.

I want the Apple Watch bands currently out to work with the new watch. Some people have sunk 1k or more and we should be allowed to continue using these!

I'd also like to see smart bands. Like a sport band with a gps chip and small battery to power the chip.

I was debating whether or not to buy one on Black Friday and I decided to wait till gen 2. I would also like to see some kind of smart band that allows for other sensors and of course I want better battery life as a "want/need". I sleepwalk and I would really like to know what's going on! I have almost convinced myself to buy a Fitbit Charge HR.

Definitely waterproof. I have a feeling just from all that I've read that it is coming. If not gen 2 then at least somewhere in the near future.

I love my AW, love the shape, the size, the functionality is fine But I would love to be able to pair more than one watch to my iPhone . I don't want another brand an love the one I have but Apple could sell me on a second watch but only if I could easily go from one to another.

Sure I'll take any other upgrades but the 2nd watch is key.

I will not be buying an Apple Watch until they have an always on display. If it cannot display the time without having to raise my wrist it's useless as a watch to me. The delay (even if ever so slight) is annoying and this is a watch first and needs to at least function as a watch before I'll consider it.
