I really don’t understand the horror here.
None of the Apple Watch chargers support fast charging other than the new one released with the S7.

Why do we expect a device released some time ago to support a new feature? Fast charging wasn’t around then so it’s perfectly logical that it doesn’t support it.

Anyone who needs fast charging gets a new puck in the box. And can continue to charge at a normal speed with the duo when travelling or on their bedside table.

Caution! Forum cred is not earned by making sense with posts like yours. Try and muster up some aggrievance and outrage next time. Maybe add a "TC needs to be fired" at the end for bonus points.

I miss Steve Jobs. Crap like this wouldn't happen. All these excessive product lines wouldn't happen. Someone's butt would be chewed so hard it would be entertaining to watch. They develop these things like 3 years ahead and can't realize when they make something that won't work with the following year's devices. That's some serious oversight that I think Jobs wouldn't have missed.
You’re joking, right?
Under Jobs, all computers released in 2005 or before completely lost support in 2009. That’s right, if you bought a power Macintosh G5 on August 6, 2006, the last day it was officially sold by Apple, by August 2009 it was no longer getting software updates. Three years! Only three years.
Under Steve Jobs, Mac OS X snow leopard was sold at $29, but was only advertised as an upgrade disk. Apple claimed that you could not install it on top of anything older than Mac OS X leopard. For people who wanted to install it on anything older, Apple advised you to buy a $169 bundle. Turned out that that wasn’t actually necessary. In fact, Apple‘s old Mac OS X family bundles? They weren’t necessary either, because the individual discs literally let you install them on unlimited machines, not just one as Apple stated.
This is the exact kind of thing Steve Jobs would have done, he loved making up pointless reasons to get more of your money.

The family thing is about licensing not the disks literally stopping you. Or do you think it's also a scam that more than one CD/DVD/Blu-ray is sold rather than the first guy who buys it just ripping it for everyone else?

Well puck [sic] Apple! That is planned, purposeful obsolescence. You don’t think Apple became a trillion dollar company without screwing over customers right and left, now do you? That is why they often change the size of iThingies just enough to make you have to buy another case, and now they change the charging specs to screw you over too. Steve was a greedy turd, but Tim is pure evil…
2 trillion.

MagSafe Duo is great for perpetual travelers.

One cable and I get an elegant way to charge my iPhone and Watch in any hotel or AirBnB. Speed isn’t the goal.

If you live in one place then don’t sweat - this product isn’t for you.
Not true! I use mine at home as a way to combine charging my phone and watch with minimal cords.

I was wondering about this issue myself and while I’m a bit disappointed about the Duo not fast charging the AW7, it still works fine for an overnight charge like I usually do. For me, having the Duo and it’s features and convenience outweighs the lack of the fast charge. No biggie…

Speed is actually the goal for perpetual travelers. You’d need a fast charger so you can check in or catch the next plane, or have a quick top up before the meeting, or fast fueling before enjoying a 2-hours tour with the ferry.

Travelling is one of those hectic times where you taking bunch of photos, videos, texting and you definitely need some speedy charging.

Not to mention the iPod Touch had paid OS updates originally.

I travel a third of the year for work. This overpriced POS isn’t for me either.

Stating the bloody obvious here for a clickbait headline MacRumours! the Watch 7 is brand new, this is an old product. No existing or 3rd party charger will fast charge until they have been updated. Shouldn't you be whining about every single watch charging product ever made before September 2021? Sad to see so many dumb comments on this thread!

Why is this product good for a traveler, let alone anyone? So you only have to take one cord.. (the other cord weighs less than half a gram, yet you have to carry the actual mag duo) this product is just pointless.

Some of Apple’s products confuse me, and this is one of them. I’m not saying it’s good or bad, but it’s a head-scratcher for the price vs. what it offers. This to me feels like it should be a $40-$50 product. If I traveled a lot, I can certainly see the use. But not for the price. There’s so many alternatives.

I agree Magsafe Duo is overpriced and underperformed. But alternatives?

I can’t seem to find a Magsafe (the real one with 15 watts output) charger with Apple Watch puck in a single package from a reputable brand. It’s truly one of a kind unless you’re talking about knockoffs.

But the many technologically illiterate Apple fanboys will still claim that there are good reasons why you can’t charge an Apple Watch with the big, iPhone 12-13 MagSafe pucks, and that there are good reasons why you can’t charge Apple Watch with any wireless Qi charger but have to get an Apple Mfi certified AW puck.

But in reality it’s all just software locked to get you to buy more iConsumables.

The fact that the cable and puck on all Apple Watch charging cables are non-detachable so you have to replace the whole thing when just the cable starts fraying should tell us how much Apple cares and innovates with the environment in mind.
