I'm 99% sure that B2S will start next Tuesday (the 14th). There have been reports of store managers receiving new visuals (signs) to be opened tomorrow and the 14th. Tomorrow is guaranteed to be for everything/something announced today at the keynote. Nothing is scheduled for release until July (Lion) or later, which leaves B2S as the subject of the visuals to go up on the 14th. To corroborate, my school's campus computer store told me they heard they'd get an Apple announcement the week of the 13th. With Lion slated for next month, and iOS and the rest of iCloud later this year, all I can think of for next week is B2S must be starting. Plus, really, what other than B2S is Apple going to contact a University storefront about?? I'll be setting my alarm early on the 14th to be first in line. :)

Wow, thank you! My parents just bought me a Macbook Pro as a graduation gift. I'm so glad I didn't open it lol; my cousin last year got an iPod from the B2S promo, so I was wondering why I didn't get one this year (just got the student rebate and a free printer).

Also, the return policy is 14 days correct? I got mine yesterday, so I should be good until the 14th, but should I return it early just in case?

Thank you :D

I'm 32 and have been out of college, well, for 11 yrs. When I bought my wife's iMac recently, the AAPL employee asked us if we were students. We said no. He said are you sure?, and I then got the hint and said "yes, we are students at XYX local college. He smiled, we smiled, and left paying a lot less than a non-student.

So, I suppose it depends on the salesperson, the stars aligning, or something like that, as to how lucky you get. We got lucky.

I don't think it's a big deal as AAPL is printing money right now. Sales are sales...inventory going out is a huge deal for stockholders.

Bwahaha that's great. And yes Apple is rolling in money pits right now. All these new Free services are a sign they are getting some serious revenue from sales, apps, and other aspects.

Ever since the new MBPs came out I've been waiting for the B2S promotion... read to pull the trigger on a 13" MBP as soon as the deal is announced. Plus the cheap Lion upgrade (or free, if the "buy a Mac anytime now until the release date and Lion is free" note on the MacRumors story is true)...

Come on Apple, announce it!

I really really really hope that this is true.

But on the other hand, what if they are actually promos for the July Mac OSX Lion release, as in signs that say "Lion is coming soon" or something instead of an actual back to school? Anyway, will still wait haha, we are at Apple's disposal.

I like how we have all of this information.

Either the Apple employees don't know anything, or they're very good at playing dumb.

Went to the Apple Store in NYC on Fifth Ave. Asked an employee if he knew when the back to school promotion was going to start, and he said it usually started in August. Obviously I knew this was wrong. Then he told me that he hadn't been working there long and he would check with a coworker who would know better than him. He came back and told me his fellow employee said it usually starts in July so that would be a good bet, and that the deal is never guaranteed.

I'm crossing my fingers for this week or the latest next, because if not I'm just gonna jump the gun.

I just thought it was funny how I got the run around by Apple employees.

Yes, Lion is free to anyone who buys a Mac on or after today as a download through the App store as long as you claim it within 30 days of Lion's release, or 30 days of purchase if you buy after release but get a system that isn't pre-installed. See the 2nd to last paragraph of the press release
http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2011/06/06lion.html which reads:
The Mac OS X Lion Up-To-Date upgrade is available at no additional charge via the Mac App Store to all customers who purchased a qualifying new Mac system from Apple or an Apple Authorized Reseller on or after June 6, 2011. Users must request their Up-To-Date upgrade within 30 days of purchase of their Mac computer. Customers who purchase a qualifying Mac between June 6, 2011 and the date when Lion is available in the Mac App Store will have 30 days from Lion’s official release date to make a request."

I was gonna wait for the B2S promo as well but I just price matched Micro Center at Best Buy and got the 13" for $999.99.

I believe you, I'll wait till then ;)

You have another believer :D

Well it's 10:31 east coast time and online apple store shows nothing.

I'm guessing all that signage that stores received a few days ago is just for lion, iOS 5, and icloud. No BTS so far. To the poster up top...where did you read that stores got signage for next Tuesday? I couldn't find that anywhere, my apple store said they have no signage for next week, just this week. just wondering because that could be promising if true, but it's hard to trust an educational store employee IMO.

I am very surprised the promotion has not started, especially with a competitor who has a BTS promotion out..sort of surprising.

I'll wait max until next week. If no BTS, I'm buying a Lenovo and getting an Xbox. The new Lenovos have the lithium-polymer battery, which the Mac has as well, and give a comparable battery life.

Getting tired of Apple's high-handed attitude.

I need a laptop for school and have been waiting for this promo to start for months. I am now out of time as classes are starting. I won't be saving $200 on a ipod or ipad, but at least I will have my computer and not have to worry about when/if the sale starts anymore. Hope the sale starts soon for you all!

Off to the apple store I go!

Slainte!

I saw the possible signage update on the 14th in this 9to5mac post: http://www.9to5mac.com/70490/apple-to-release-mac-os-x-lion-on-june-14th/

As for the university store employee, he was 1) really excited I was switching to mac from windows, 2) knew my current laptop is clinging on to dear life making me realllllllly impatient to get my MBP, and 3) had no incentive to basically encourage me to wait until the week of the 13th unless he was pretty sure of the sale being delayed until then. It came up because I expressed my frustration it hadn't started and was skeptical (correctly) they would launch it during WWDC. Also, after some of the stories in this thread, I'm not sure you can claim Apple store employees are to be trusted (as a general rule), either.

I've been itching for months to get a 2011 15" MBP. Given a $200 rebate I would purchase an iPad with it. I'm not sure how much longer I can hold out.

The article was written a few days prior to the keynote, and during the keynote they said Lion was coming out in July, so that part of the story is probably false.

Also, the way I read it, they speculate the BTS to go into effect today, June 7th.

"While we do not know what June 7′s changes are, we think the launch of Apple’s 2011 back to school promotion is a strong possibility."

Maybe you can benefit for the promo when it comes out anyway :) Some people managed to get the rebate after the promotion started in the previous years. Where do you live, by the way? How is it that you're starting your classes in May?

Lol, it's funny how nowadays students can't live without a laptop. Are there still people who study as in the good ol' times?? :p

I know the article was before keynote - my point was simply that they said there were signage changes both the 7th and the 14th. I disagreed with them from the beginning that the 7th would be back to school and the 14th Lion release. Those were both rumors they could run with because people wanted them to be true. However, the content of the updates were their speculations based on (more likely to be legit) reports of sign updates. My guess from the beginning was the 7th would be based on keynote and the 14th BTS, not Lion. So far it's held true.
