Re: Is apple doing the back to school discount in 2011? If so when?

"Apple always has offered that promotion to American students in the past, but it has generally been announced after the U.S. school year ends for everyone. Be patient." quoted, apple support community.

In other words, they advise us to be patient and to wait for the news to come.

Great, now we 'just' have to figure out when the last day of school is nationwide ;)

Yeah, get him fired from Apple, his days are over there. Any opposition would be 'fruit'less. =D

I would LOVE to do report him but I have no idea how and I forgot his name..I do have the time logged on my phone though. I would of seriously bought the laptop over the phone if he would of been nicer and worked with me and not been so damn pushy. He had no respect for me as a customer.

Hey whats up everyone. I am also waiting to order my 17" MBP for school as well. While im a senior and was let out of school early, I do know that the last day for all the rest of my high school is actually this friday, the 10th, which i'm reading is pretty late in the year? At least thats the way it is here in Florida. I would already have ordered my MBP except for the hope of getting an iPad $200 off.

Here's to hoping our worries will be over the 13th or 14th! Cheers

Just ordered it! Had a new guy on the phone Joe was very cool and promised me and send me an email with his info saying that Apple would send me the Ipod if its within 2 weeks from today. He doesnt know if it will be though..

Also excited to get Lion

In theory I wonder how the $200 off iPad would work? Will it be a rebate that gets mailed in or will we get the savings at time of purchase?

In the past, it's always been a rebate that you get later. You pay full price for the iPad, then you'll get the rebate amount back from Apple afterwards.

Reading this thread has made my wait so much easier. Will be ordering my iMac and iPad 2 on the 15th though if it doesn't start on the 14th.

Does anyone know if, historically, the US and UK B2S sales start on the same date?

^ Historically, UK started later (September time) but over the last couple of years it has been at the same time.

Remember UK HE students get a 3 year warranty for free when you buy online through the edu store!

In germany it started 1 Day After us Release ;) but use google

Anyone want to write Steve?

New to the message board. Also, still a PC user, but hopefully, soon a MBP owner. I have a couple of questions for people in this discussion because I am not sure where else to ask.

1) Is it certain that the MBP is set for a redesign in its next update? If so, can anyone predict when that will be?

2) I ask, because although I want to take full advantage of what I expect to be the annual back-to-school promotions I always hear about from Apple, I am little hesitant to purchase my first MBP, which is a huge chunk of change to me. Would you still recommend buying the latest MBP with the back-to-school promotion? (if it happens). I would just hate to invest so much into a computer, having waited this long to switch to Mac, and then see it updated later this year.

Any opinions?

Is now the time to buy? Or should I just keep waiting to purchase the redesigned mac, if rumors are true, and live with my PC for the time being?

Thanks for the help.

It is probably too early to predict the next update of Macbook Pro as they just got updated earlier this year. However, Intel will announce the next generation CPU Ivy Bridge early next year. So it is not very likely that apple will redesign and update Macbook this year.

So for a first time mac buyer you're recommending go ahead and buy the current model with all the student discounts ? Just looking for some assurance, thanks.

My family and friends are all sick of me talking about this macbook pro i'm getting. They tell me to stop going onto website such as this one and just let the time past while concentrating on something else..

but i can't help myself checking this thread at least few times a day...

this is becoming my new place to vent about the wait.... :D

Before everyone pulls out their hair waiting for the Back to School promo, remember to consider sales tax. For me, the promo still wouldn't beat out Amazon's $1,707 pricing for the base 15". Chicago has 10.25% sales tax, so (1700+230 (ipod touch))*1.1025 = $2127.825 before rebates. After subtracting 230 for the rebate and 190 for selling the iPod Touch, I'd still end up paying $1707... so it's not worth it for me!

Of course, if your sales tax is 6%, say, in the same scenario I'd only be paying $1626.

Your still paying the same. I was planning on doing the exact thing but through Macmall since it's even cheaper for the base 15". The only reason I'm waiting is so that I can buy it though apple and not an authorized reseller. If you buy it from an authorized reseller, apple cannot replace your laptop with another and can only replace the parts if something was suppose to happen. Also a lot of people like myself want the anti glare and that's another reason to go through apple since you end up paying more through the resellers.

I would normally agree with this, but if you want a BTO (in my case, iMac) then Apple is still the best route. There are some authorized dealers that appear to allow you to BTO, but their upgrade prices seem to be more expensive than the Apple store which negates any sales tax savings.

Ah sure, def... I hadn't thought of that. You also have the advantage of the 14 day return window.

DeChrii, what do you mean by "Apple can not replace your laptop with another"...? If its DOA, it's still under warranty, no? And Amazon, at least, doesn't seem to charge restocking fee or anything within their 30 day window.
