Tired of waiting so I got my local Best Buy to price match Microcenter $999 13 inch baseline model.

If the Apple b2s sale starts next Tuesday I will probably return the MBP and buy it from Apple with the iPod and printer.

From my calculations, after selling off the iPod and printer I will spend $874 for the MBP from Apple. From Best Buy it comes out to $999. In other-words, Apple will wave me roughly $125 if the b2s promo does indeed start.

Did BB match the $999 price for the new, Sandy-Bridge processors? The base core-I5 has the model number 2410M. In the past, Microcenter was always selling the pre-Sandy Bridge processors for $999.

I know the article was before keynote - my point was simply that they said there were signage changes both the 7th and the 14th. I disagreed with them from the beginning that the 7th would be back to school and the 14th Lion release. Those were both rumors they could run with because people wanted them to be true. However, the content of the updates were their speculations based on (more likely to be legit) reports of sign updates. My guess from the beginning was the 7th would be based on keynote and the 14th BTS, not Lion. So far it's held true.

I see where you're coming from and how you've drawn your conclusions. I'm in agreement, the launch of the BTS promotion in the same week as the WWDC announcements seemed unlikely - too much other bigger stuff going on. At the same time if Apple are to launch this promotion then you'd imagine they'd want to do it sooner rather than later to compete with the Microsoft BTS promotion - also guess they'd launch it before Lion's launch.

Of course, at best it's pure speculation and, at worst, all just rationalisation on our part but that's half the fun of it. On my part, no BTS promotion next week and I may have to bite the bullet as I sold my previous 27" at the end of April. I dusted down my old G4 800MHz PPC Angle poise iMac for the interim but it's sooooooo sloooooooow.:eek:

If they going to release it 14th June, we can buy them now and just call them at 15th and ask for free iPod Touch right? I going to buy right now! ;)

Maybe you can benefit for the promo when it comes out anyway :) Some people managed to get the rebate after the promotion started in the previous years. Where do you live, by the way? How is it that you're starting your classes in May?

Lol, it's funny how nowadays students can't live without a laptop. Are there still people who study as in the good ol' times?? :p

If it comes out in the next 2 weeks, I hope so!

I am entering a medical program that starts in the summer and we are required to have a laptop. I consider myself from the "good old times" as I prefer to have a textbook versus using online versions. The laptop does come in quite handy though.

I am now the proud owner of a 15" MBP.

Yes I am doing that Friday when I go to the store. And if it doesn't happen in the next 14 days I doubt it will happen.

Educational discount and free iPod?

In past back to school promotions, have you been able to buy a Mac with an educational discount and still get a free iPod?

I cant believe I sold my :apple: macbook pro before knowing the exact date of the back to school promo :(
Im so not used to using Windows 7 and all these false predictions are making me ill!
So please can someone shed some light on this, like is there really a chance they wont bring the promo to UK? everywhere else seems to have it! and im slowly spending my money on pizza, tissues, and find myself looking at building a custom Windows PC! if things continue like this for much longer....Im gonna go nutts!
~Steve Please release the Promo!~ Please!!!

Reading this thread somehow makes me feel better...

Maybe it's because knowing there are other people also waiting for this promotion makes the whole waiting thing more bearable....

must wait until next Tuesday!

This anticipation is brutal for those of us who already started summer classes. I'm taking a video editing course also.

We need to man up and wait, myself included.

Though I will go crazy if its not here by Friday 17th.

F5 key was in full motion at that stage! why couldnt he say the word "back to school.....blah" instead it was 1 more thing about itunes!!!!! FFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!

Sorry just sooo stressed :(

Until Apple says anything, what you find here is PURE SPEULATION. No one can say for sure it will happen until Steve gives the ok.

And, as above FFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!;)

Yes, that's what makes the BTS worth the wait. Educational pricing is year round, and the BTS deal is yours when you use that educational pricing to buy a mac. In the past, the free ipod deal has been a rebate for the price of the $229 (or thereabouts) ipod with the option to use it toward a more expensive ipod model. Some people want the ipod to keep, some people just want it to sell to offset the cost of the computer.

As for a hard wait, I feel everybody's pain. I decided to get a mac about a month ago when my dell laptop started to die thanks to the video card overheating. Turns out the issue was actually covered by a class-action suit for the poorly engineered video card, but the deadline to claim a replacement was March and my laptop didn't show symptoms until April/May. That's when I remembered the bios update I installed a year ago...it runs the fans longer to compensate for the bad card, therefore buying just enough time to keep me out of the loop. Took a week to decide I wanted the MBP, and then was told the sale was likely coming up and I should wait if possible. So, I'm holding out as long as I can, dealing with a laptop with random display corruption, lock-ups and/or blue-screens 2-3 times a day, and which burns my wrists if I don't keep it on a wire rack 3" off the table. Not joking about that last one...w/o the rack the graphics card idles at 70C and has gotten up to 95C just browsing the web...

I feel so ill defined...:(
I love Steve Jobs! he is the only modern wizard I have seen since Merlin!
never before have I come across such a binding sales spell! I think the apple logo :apple: means once you have tried it, you are forever f...d! like the forbidden fruit! you will worship the products, F5 the life out of your system and believe whole heartedly speculation surrounding product promotions to the point of selling everything you have just on the slight off chance that it may be true :p

And above all this I feel a sense that it is worth it, unless of course the speculation is false, then the sickness comes back:eek:

Lion looks awesome! :D

New here. Also waiting for the bts sale for my first MacBook pro. I'm my opinion, apple is holding off for a few weeks in order to try to increase their inventory of ipads so they will be able to offer the 200 dollars off with this sale. They could also be waiting for all hs/college graduations to be completed so someone that isn't going back to school doesn't try to jump on the back to school deal last minute. Just my opinion tho.

OK wow you all can tell me what you want to make of this. I called Apple and got to macbook pro sales.

I asked him when BTS started and he didn't know but he said if I ordered within 2 weeks of BTS then I would still get the discount/free iPod. I asked for him to give me this in writing but he wouldn't! He told me I had to take him for his word. When I said I wasn't comfortable buying without an email from him saying I would get the iPod/rebate if I bought it within 2 weeks, he hung up on me! No way it was accidental because he had my phone #...

This guy was really rude though as he was super pushy with Apple care and when I told him I'd get it later he said that might be a "really really stupid decision". He also told me if I didn't get it then it would cost me $50 per question to get my question answered by Apple tech support - is this really true? I told him that I didn't need it because I got a one year warranty with a 1 year extension from my credit card.

Bought. Can't wait till it gets here.

That is terrible customer service. I would report the guy.
