Ah sure, def... I hadn't thought of that. You also have the advantage of the 14 day return window.

DeChrii, what do you mean by "Apple can not replace your laptop with another"...? If its DOA, it's still under warranty, no? And Amazon, at least, doesn't seem to charge restocking fee or anything within their 30 day window.

I bought the 2011 mbp off of Macmall and there was a few issues after 2 months of use. I brought it to the apple store and they replaced the top case which then lead to a screen problem and they were willing to replace the logic. But with only 2 months of use and all these problems, a swap is what I felt would be better. They said that they could have easily swapped it, but since I bought it from an authorized reseller, they could not. If it's doa, that's a different story but in my case it was already 2 months. Luckily I contacted Macmall and they were very nice and helpful to give me a refund after 2 months of use. But if my incident occurred let's say 11 months in, that wouldn't be fun.

I was thinking last night, maybe Apple is waiting for Lion to start the Back to School promo. It would make sense because of icloud. I have to stop looking for info on when the BTS promo starts (I have bought enough Macs to know that there is no info. LOL)

I know the upgrade is free, but maybe Lion is coming out sooner and Apple wants to make sure students have Lion so they are more likely to use/ like icloud.

If you buy a mac after 6/6 lion is free for you. B2S if it happens will start before lion is released.

When you purchase from amazon can you configure it the way you want?

No sir, i definitely looked into this, as Amazon is usually my go-to retailer on the internet. You can only buy the retail versions, same ones you would get in Best Buy or any other retail box store.

It looks like the education page isn't aimed at outgoing seniors anymore: http://store.apple.com/us/browse/campaigns/education_pricing?mco=MTM3NTE2NzE. Now it's just the generic save $200 with a different picture. This good? Bad? Nothing?

Yeah, new picture but no BTS sale. What's up with that? I need it to show up before the 18th since I already went ahead and bought a new 27" desktop. The Apple rep I chatted with told me if the BTS came out within 14 days of when I received the computer I could get in on it. It came last Saturday so I'm hoping it's next Tuesday or I'm SOL.

sick!
Apple release new macbook pro and back to school promo just go to site and click on store, awesome!

That literally just tricked me into buying a macbook pro from the education store....

I thought maybe I would get an email for the free ipod once i put in my credit card info and submitted:(

It almost seems like if they were going to announce BTS soon, they would have gone straight from the last ad to the BTS ad. I don't like this. :(

I agree. It doesn't look promising. Maybe they'll do like most companies and have their BTS sale in August. Who knows?

Apple hasn't said anything, so...

If Apple weren't running the BTS offer this year, they'd have said so.

If it's the only reason that's delaying a planned purchase, why not tell the world that there won't be a BTS this year?
That would only remove the one reason some aren't buying now.

In other words,

Why would Apple want to give its' customers a reason to put off the purchase?

Answer:
They wouldn't.

So, no news is good news...

Fair enough. But it might be that they're not going to do the promo until August, by which a lot of people will have given up and gotten their computers anyway.

Agree.
It might bite Apple in the rear.
I know of two parents of high school grads that were debating between a macbook pro and a windows laptop.
They would have made that decision if the BTS offer was on the table.
At least one of them found a laptop with a supposed 8 hour battery life.

Chalk up one lost convert...

I really don't think Apple would announce "We're not running a promotion this year" - they have no need to as they hadn't promised to run it in the first place. All our hypothesising is purely based on us historically recognising a pattern that this promotion has been offered previously. Also, the numbers of people waiting for this promotion to launch is a small minority and we'll all purchase whatever in the next week or so.

I doubt that they will wait until August... from what i've read on different sites and such is that apple uses the back to school promotion in order to get rid of alot of their ipod touch stock that may be lingering before the new ones are announced in the first week of September. However now that I think about it the newest iphone is supposed to be announced in September and a new ipad before the holidays from what I've read...maybe their going to be starting a new trend where they release products at different times during the year, like iphones september, ipads and ipods before christmas and computers at the start of the years who knows. It just wouldnt make sense for apple to hold off on the sale for so long, something just doesnt add up.

I just hope it does start this tuesday...

Really? Lucky Japanese people! What was the dates for this promo in Japan?

If there's one thing I think we can all agree on, it's that the people of Japan have been very lucky this year.

"It almost seems like if they were going to announce BTS soon, they would have gone straight from the last ad to the BTS ad. I don't like this."

I disagree. If they were to announce the back to school sale for the 14th, there'd be a drop in sales between now and the 14th. It behooves Apple to announce the sale after the close of business on the 13th, at 12:01AM ET on the 14th, or at 10:30AM ET on the 14th (when the apple stores open for business). That said, if they don't announce this deal soon, I'm going to freak out.

I've already ordered MBP from online store. If they're going to release BTS at 14th, I just need to call them and tell them about my order and they'll send me iPod Touch. I hope they announce it soon, I still have a 10 days.

I guess my point is that it seems like they'd just stick with the previous ad until Tuesday if they were going to make the BTS announcement then. No reason to change it for 5 days, when they could have just stuck with the old one. Still, I hope everyone's hope here is correct and they announce it on the 14th.

My brother-in-law works for Apple's marketing and sales department. The Back-To-School promotion will begin next Tuesday. Your welcome for the news
