which ipod touch generation do you get for the bts this year? third or fourth?
because if it is third, i would have to estimate the price getting deducted much less than 199 if i sell it on ebay or something right?

Any mac bought between June 6th and Lion's release will get a free upgrade through the app store.
Yay!! Thank you!! :D I was not sure if it applied to this promo, too :)

Only two days to go!! :p

Just double checking...

I. Just. Can't. Wait. Anymore. So...if I buy a Macbook Pro tomorrow, Monday, and they announce it on Tuesday like the rumors say, can I take part in the promotion and return it and buy it again or something like that? If so, how many days do I have to do it? Will I have to pay extra for Lion? Is it hard to install? Is there a Target in heaven?

This question was literally answered one page back, but the answer is yes you can and you have 14 days to do so.

Twitter user Chronic, who has been a source for leaks on Apple products in the past, first noted late Saturday that his sources have "100% confirmed" a Wednesday release for a MacBook Air update. Early on Sunday, Chronic added that Apple Store displays will be updated on Tuesday night to launch the company's annual Back To School promo alongside the new MacBook Airs.

This actually would leave me screwed because I purchased my MacBook Pro on the 31st after getting a 14 day assurance. (I assumed it was going to start no later then the 6th).

Tuesday, the 14th is the 14th and last day I can return it/apply for the promotion.

I guess I'll have to go in on the 14th and ask them if it starts on the 15th day, if I can get in on the promotion. If that doesn't work, I guess I'll just tell them I want to return the MacBook and come back the next day lol.

I gonna laugh a lot if you come next day and you'll see the same guy who sold you your Mac. :D

Haha, I was gonna say the exact same thing.

regarding the return policy (as somebody says we may return and place another new order together with the ipod within 14 days of purchase should the promotion start after our purchase within 14 days), how do you make of the following return policy found on apple's website? did the staff say anything about these when you asked?

For eligible products, you have up to 14 calendar days from the time you receive your item(s) to initiate a return. Personalised iPods (e.g., engraved or customised in any way) may not be returned for refund or exchange under any circumstances unless such product is Dead on Arrival (see the section below for more detailed information on such Dead on Arrival products). If the item is returnable and you send it back to us unopened in the original box, Apple will offer you a refund based on your original method of payment. All products must be packed in the original, unmarked packaging including any accessories, manuals, documentation and registration that shipped with the product. A 25% open box fee will be assessed on any opened hardware or accessory (per return unit). A 15% restocking fee will be assessed on closed box returns (per unit).

After chatting with an Apple rep online for about 45 minutes I finally purchased a 27" iMac on Monday, May 30. I received the computer on Saturday, June 4. This is what the Apple rep told me:

Dave: Ah, understood. While we haven't announced that promotion for this year yet, keep in mind that you would have a 14 day return policy on your order.
Dave: With that in mind, you could conceivably place your order today to have the benefits of receiving your order sooner, rather than later.
Dave: And, if the promotion occurred within the 14 days of receiving your system, you could utilize that return policy to retroactively take advantage of the promotion.
Me: I understand that. If I knew the sale would occur within 14 days I'd place my order right now. I really don't want to have to deal with returning stuff to you, etc. Isn't that what I'd have to do? Package up my computer, return it to them, then order again?
Dave: No, it would just be a quick call to customer service to electronically (and retroactively) process the transaction.
You: I realize you can't actually tell me that/or if the promotion is going to take place but I've waited eight years to upgrade I suppose I can wait a few more hours/days. Regarding what you just told me...say I order it now and the promotion comes out tomorrow or during WWDC. I could just call up Apple, explain my situation and they'd allow me in on the deal?
Dave: Exactly.
Dave: I've seen it happen before, and we absolutely are able to work with you in those situations

So...I really don't think Apple is going to want to have to deal with getting a used computer, paying shipping, etc. when they could just send me the iPod. Make sense?

I have been waiting patiently for this promotion. I am getting the base 27" but more importantly I want the iPod Touch because I gave mine to my daughter last year after I decided to put my music on my phone. (not an iPhone) What a mistake that was. The shuffle keeps playing the same songs. Anyway, I've seen you can get the 5% Discover discount with the education discount on another one of the forums but I saw someone ask if you could get the 15% AOS discount. Sorry for being naive but what is AOS?

What were the prices last year for the B2S sale? Right now, I can get a MBP 13" for $1,099 with the educational discount today. Can I expect a lower price when the sale starts?

That stinks. I already have the iPod Touch and an iPhone4. I would rather see an additional discount.

Hold the promotion, stop all offers, Aviboy97 already has an iPod Touch and an iPhone. What were Apple thinking on running such a promotion?

Personally I think it's a very generous promotion considering it's alongside your already generous educational discount and as said, there is e-bay to sell it on. Also, you don't have to take advantage of the promotion as you already have an Ipod, last time I checked Apple weren't strong arming customers into purchasing the iPod.

Do you guys know the answer to this question?

I bought a MacBook Pro 4 days ago in New Hampshire, where they do not charge sales tax. I live in Connecticut where sales tax is 6%. If the BTS promotion were to happen on Wednesday, if I went to a local Apple store and tried to take advantage of the promotion, would I get charged sales tax on a exchange so I can receive the iPod touch? I mean sales tax on the MacBook Pro?

Unfortunately, the store where you would "exchange" would have to charge you sales tax.
