Dude. Lion is free to anyone who buys after June 6th. Buy some freaking records, for crying out loud.
Dude, I KNOW Lion is free - that wasn't my point. My point is that once you get that shiny new free Lion, a lot of older apps will NOT be able to take advantage of its new features like autosave and versions. This has been documented by devs testing things. Even iWork, in its current form, can't do versions. The Apple rep I spoke to couldn't guarantee the iWork update would be a free patch, since nothing has been announced, but rumors of iWork 11 coming soon are out there. Personally, I'd be pretty annoyed if I had to buy a new version of something I JUST bought because I want to actually use the features of the new free OS. Sorry if my PSA doesn't apply to you, but I thought I'd throw it out there for other people buying their very first mac and wanting to buy software at the same time.
