Dude. Lion is free to anyone who buys after June 6th. Buy some freaking records, for crying out loud.

Dude, I KNOW Lion is free - that wasn't my point. My point is that once you get that shiny new free Lion, a lot of older apps will NOT be able to take advantage of its new features like autosave and versions. This has been documented by devs testing things. Even iWork, in its current form, can't do versions. The Apple rep I spoke to couldn't guarantee the iWork update would be a free patch, since nothing has been announced, but rumors of iWork 11 coming soon are out there. Personally, I'd be pretty annoyed if I had to buy a new version of something I JUST bought because I want to actually use the features of the new free OS. Sorry if my PSA doesn't apply to you, but I thought I'd throw it out there for other people buying their very first mac and wanting to buy software at the same time.

Buying one tomorrow eitherway. It will be nice to get anything free with my MBP but I'm done doing the waiting.

My theory was that they were taken by surprise by the Microsoft X-Box offer and they had to make last-minute changes to the BTS promo to up the Microsoft offer. But I sure hope that they haven't discontinued the promo
Well if that's true, it wouldn't make sense to wait all this time while microsoft has all the fun on its own.
I know, but there's no way to know what will happen... The wisest thing to do for me is to wait, since I'm in no real hurry to get the new laptop and I want to take advantage of this promo :D I know I will keep waiting even if the promotion is not released tomorrow as rumoured

Me too! Be strong!:)

When did they say that? I thought everyone had to buy Lion from the app store. Or do you mean that once lion is released, all new macs that have not yet been purchased will have Lion already installed on them?

I guess it should have started by now, shouldn't it?? Lol, what do we make our next deadline?? :p

So it seems the promotion will be crappier this year... I couldn't care less about a $100 iTunes card  That's a downgrade!! A rebate for an iPod is way better. I'm sure they'll snag much less people with this BTS promo because many people don't give a damn about $100, especially if it comes in the shape of an iTunes card and they don't buy things from iTunes very often. The iPod rebate offer is waaaaaay more enticing.

If I were Apple, I would offer the iPod touch along with the $100 gift card. Apple likes to have surprises and they also need to mildly compete with the xbox giveaway.

Yes, it is "crappier" than last year, but no, it isn't a downgrade. It is an upgrade.

Apple has been giving a discount to education-related customers for years; it has trained many people to to wait for the Back to School promotion to purchase a computer.

Now, many of these customers don't appreciate what Apple has done. A few years of a "crappy" promotion, and people will appreciate an iPod next time it is offered.

Apple doesn't have to do anything. People will still buy their product.

I find it funny that in UK we are still at school till July, and we don't go back till September, so why should we get the back to school promo now? Seems weird.

I'm not sure if that rumour is true. I mean that it starts today...normally the bts promo were the same day in Germany and the US. Nothing in Germany yet and it's already 12:30-
So we will see. I need to order in time, so my computer gets there the 30th of June. What are normal delivery times?

You're talking about school - at uni its a bit different and students finish (and start) at different times.

But I want a free iPod now!! Oh, damn!! Why did they have to change the promo this year?? Not happy... :( Well, the good days are over...

Anyway, I think we have another rumour debunked. Shouldn't the promotion have started by now?? Well, if that isn't true, maybe it isn't true that they're swapping the iPod rebate for a $100 iTunes card either :p

Definately, I have bad luck!! XD

Should be pretty quick. I ordered a Configured-To-Order iMac online from the Netherlands to the UK and it took two business days with standard shipping.

Yeah you uni students get it easy! ;) But its still a Back to School promotion, you want me to tell all you undergrads you are going back to school? Hehe! :)
