Unfortunately, the store where you would "exchange" would have to charge you sales tax.

Thanks for the response. Man that stinks! Hmmm 2 hour drive to New Hampshire for savings of $100+ or 1 hour drive to local Apple Store and pay taxes.....

Interesting

So i just got off the phone with Apple. I played dumb and asked a few questions about processors and anti-glare screens, and finally got onto the topic of back to school. The sales rep told me the same thing he's told everyone time and time again. It normally starts in May, he hasnt heard anything and he cant guarantee it will happen at all. HOWEVER, I asked the standard question "If it does happen to come out, what are the chances of me getting the ipod or the discount?" He told me, however, that "if you buy it, and if it [BTS] should come out a month later, we can definately hook you out... just confirm your student identity, and you should be able to get the student special" Not sure if every apple rep would say the same, but i certainly like the idea of being able to get the student deal at any time if you can confirm your student identity. :D

Now, the damn sale just has to happen -_-

Hummmmm I think there is a 14 day limit ?

I thought so too. But he said that because we are students it would be applicable any time. Maybe hes just a mess :p Or myabe i found the nicest dude on the apple hotline :) Nonetheless, it was really cool to hear :p (whether or not its applicable). More important,y WHERES THE SALES

Apple store guy told me something entirely different in a hush hush sort of way. I promised I wouldn't tell anyone but you will be very surprised.

well if the rumors are true about the $100 itunes giftcard, then your right we are all surprised. All furious about waiting this long to get a $100 giftcard.

I was just in the Apple store earlier and an employee told me that the back to school promotion is that with any Mac purchase they let you hold an iPad 2 and then slap you in the face.

My theory was that they were taken by surprise by the Microsoft X-Box offer and they had to make last-minute changes to the BTS promo to up the Microsoft offer. But I sure hope that they haven't discontinued the promo

um.....ok. Thanks for the heads up:confused:

Also, this gift card rumor seems out of place. Lets not forget that Japan got free ipods. I dont think they would change the offer for the rest of the world.

Well if that's true, it wouldn't make sense to wait all this time while microsoft has all the fun on its own.

All I care about in regards to this is that an Apple Store guy confirmed some sort of BTS promo would go down. I don't care what I get - anything is better than nothing. I just want confirmation SOMETHING will happen.

Seriously, I'm even good with a 100 dollar itunes gift card.

Bad news flying around this morning guys

I'm sure you may have heard or not but you can google it. According to 9to5mac.com::mad:

Apple will start their annual Back to School promotion this week, possibly Wednesday, but this year will feature a major twist. In year’s past, Apple’s Back to School promotion offered students their usual educational discount plus a free iPod with any purchase of a Mac. This year, 9to5Mac has been told, will be very different. In fact, Apple will not be offering free iPods during this promotion but will instead offer a $100 iTunes gift card.

Apple usually begins their Back to School promotion*approximately*three months prior to their annual fall music-related event. This Back to School*promotion*usually serves a way for Apple to clear out their iPod inventory ahead of an early September refresh for the lineup. Given that iPods will not be in this years Back to School promotion, we are not too sure what to think about this fall’s iPod upgrade situation.

I'm giving it until tomorrow and I hope they are wrong. I want the iPod this sucks why would they change it up like this?

Were still getting a pretty sweet deal. I mean, $200 off the laptop, free printer, discounted AppleCare, plus a free $100 gift card for itunes. That's like $450 worth of stuff. Its a good deal.

Personally, I wouldve preferred $100 off an uprade to the laptop (ie. Hi-res anti glare) or off additional software (ie. Microsoft Office 2011).

If the $100 is true, might I suggest you hold off on spending it on apps until Lion comes out and things settle down. The same goes for buying iWork and/or Office for Mac. Until updates come out that let them support the cool new features of Lion, it's probably better to wait in case those updates aren't free. An apple rep pointed out to me that both of those programs have 30 day free trials, so no need to buy just yet....

Dude. Lion is free to anyone who buys after June 6th. Buy some freaking records, for crying out loud.

He's referring to the fact that some of the Apps may not be Lion friendly (although it would be a tight Developer who didn't offer an upgrade to a Lion compatible version for free).
