My order was canceled today because apparently my bill that was due on the 15th is considered past-due. My bill is now fully paid and I am eligible for an upgrade, is it worth calling Apple to see if they can put my iPhone back in order? I don't understand why a women told me that I couldn't today.

I feel sorry for the people who sold there pre order's on ebay and got cancelled

Why would you feel sorry for them? They were opportunists who were selling something that does not yet exist...They were selling a "promise."

I don't feel sorry for them one bit.

I had my order canceled. I had reserved two iphones and I called to confirm everything would be fine but was eventually told my reservations had been canceled due to limited availability at the store I reserved.

I hope that you're not right. I'm a new customer and have not received this CSS email. I received a confirmation email w/ an order number and I received a couple of other emails regarding phone number transfer, but that's it.

Why didn't you just order from Apple.com and get it over with?

Sigh.

Amen brother. I feel the same. It may not be a big deal, in the grand scheme of things, but the way this has been handled is absolutely disgraceful. I've also spent many thousands with Apple and At&t and that makes me really resent how indifferent they are to my plight. I've spent north of 5 hours trying to resolve this. All for nothing.

Did ya email sjobs@apple.com?

Come on folks! It's just a frigging phone. More preorders were placed then either Apple or ATT were expecting.

The systems crashed, some corrupted orders made it into either Apples or ATT's databases without the two systems reconciling. In addition some people are exceeding the number of phone orders permitted.

A lot of people that could not get a pre order to go through opted to do a store reservation which constrained the number of phones available. These same people managed later to get a pre order, but are retaining the reservation just in case.

I've also seen a number of orders reported cancelled because their ATT account was not in good standing.

So what you are seeing is largely the companies trying to weed out the bad orders that resulted because Apple and ATT's systems could not sync up.

So here is an interesting story. I checked a few days ago and it said that I wasn't eligible for the 199 price but could get the early upgrade price for 399.00. It said that I would be eligible on December 9th, 2010. I checked today and it said I was eligible for the 199 price! I went ahead and pre-ordered it and it is showing in my account as not yet shipped. I ordered at about 5pm. My credit card show 2 1.00 charges and a charge for 223.89. I'm guessing that is a good sign. I hope it goes through!

Another question I have is, if you pre-order it and it it pending being shipped. Can you walk in on launch day and get it and cancel your pre-order?

Nope. When it's "prepared for shipment" the order cannot be cancelled.

But, if by some strange series of events you are able to get a phone on launch day without reserving one, then you will certainly be able to cancel your shipment, because Apple will not have had a chance to fulfill your online order (since it won't ship till mid next month).

...and they helped jam up the ATT and Apple system on the 15th so that legitimate people couldn't get their orders through!

Thanks, ACHAMED. :D

They're allowed to use the same system available to everyone. Sorry, they didn't jam it for legitimate buyers, because they themselves were legitimate buyers as well.

While they're "allowed" to use the same system, they did, in fact, help jam the system so that legitimate buyers had difficulty getting in. They are no different than the individuals who have developed effective methods to jam phone lines when concert tickets go on sale.

These opportunists are only legitimate buyers if you CHOOSE to believe that.

You can believe they are legitimate...I don't.

Sigh.

I did reserve it from apple.com...I tried to order but everytime it checked for eligibility it said failed and made me start again, eventually I opted for a reservation. I'll just try to get one early otherwise order it and wait until the next availability.

Reserved or pre-ordered? A reservation is not an order.

For those that had their orders from apple cancelled, can you please list the the timestamp on the apple order acknowledgement? Gizmodo is running a theory that later orders were subsequently cancelled because Apple over-booked the first shipment and can't make delivery as promised.

It seems like Apple would just update the shipping date and not cancel the order, but it's easy enough to test the hypothesis if we get enough time stamps (at least a few orders were probably coincidentally cancelled at the same time for others reasons, so I expect a least a few exceptions to the hypothesis even if true...)

I have two orders for two eligible lines on a family plan with FAN. Both orders moved to "Prepared for Shipment" status in the last few hours.

I checked both lines on AT&T's website and both lines have had their contract end date moved to 2012.

I did receive a confirmation email from Apple for both orders.

I did not receive a CSS email for either account.

They're legitimate because I purchased three on one line. And yes. I plan on selling on eBay if friends and family that wanted one, but weren't able to, aren't interested in paying me for cost.

I ordered at 1652 PDT on 6/15 (just posting this as a frame of reference) and my order is showing PREPARED FOR SHIPMENT.

Your are right on the money.

Is apple able to reopen/reprocess an iPhone order that has been canceled because of an at&t error ?

Nope, I waited on hold for almost an hour with an Apple rep while she submitted a request to have my order reopened and it was declined because of AT&T being the one who supposedly cancelled it. The Apple <--> AT&T system is not very friendly it seems to either Apple or AT&T, neither party knows whats going on with the other or anything... you would think they would have a more general system setup for fixing problems, etc.

this is the email i got. same as everyone else? i don't need to do anything right?

Yeah the CSS email is normal... I got 4 of those, and then today two of my orders were cancelled though. But the CSS is routine for everyone.
