Yeah, I never used to buy AppleCare. I now have it on every Apple product I own, with the exception of AirPodds (not sure if they even offer it on that product).

I still don't buy it.
Instead I just don't buy any Apple product that I think 'needs' it.

I simply won't buy an apple product anymore that I think will fail, break or bend with the way I intend to use it.
So, for instance, for me to decide to buy a current model iPad Pro, that would include a conscious decision to treat it with kid gloves, not put it in a backpack for sure, maybe even find a special metal case I could carry it around it so it won't bend.

That's why this issue fires me up. There are less apple products that I 'trust' than I used to. I won't buy their laptops because I have heard about, and personally seen the keyboard issues. And I won't buy products that I think will bend with relative ease, because I've already had phones that have bent with normal use.

Same here. After the 6 and seeing the 6s fix the issue. I’m not giving Apple money for a product that will be fixed .

Though saying that, if you were with Apple for long enough, you knew not to buy a rev a product, though that changed when Apple was peaking under jobs, seems those days are back. Avoid Rev A again

I’m very happy with my x and iMac Pro though, and AirPod great also. Hate the pricing though.

not only apple wants to rip you off by selling expensive outdated hardware
not only is apple selling defective devices and saying that is perfectly fine
but they also want to rip you off once you go to fix your device

"Genius Bar"

yeah right

check this out

apple 2020 , my iPad is not turning on after I bought it brand new from the App Store

I got home plugged in and is not charging or turning on

Tim = that is perfectly fine, we can fix it for the price of another brand new iPad

keep in mind that new iPad my not charge or turn on either

which is also perfectly fine

:D

I love apple but I hate Tim
I'm waiting for the next CEO to fix apple and bring back the old apple that was good for costumers

merry Christmas

that any device that wide and thin in absolutely going to be fragile and easy to bend.

This is more of a broad stroked statement. You’re so fixated on the bending, I think you’re losing sense of the fact that every iPad owner doesn’t treat property the way others do. If you use a decent case, and use common sense in terms of how you actually treat an expensive product like an iPad, you won’t have any bending problems. Can it bend? Sure, but it doesn’t mean that it applies to everybody what you’re saying either. _All_ iPads are considered fragile, but take responsibility for how you treat your property, it likely won’t be an issue.

True

I think even in a bag you take to work everyday with just the keyboard case if you’re careful with your bag you will have nothing to worry about. I know some are worried about bending In a laptop bag but I think it will be fine if you look after it.

Heres the thing, I would be thrilled if apple came out with a sturdier, slightly thicker ‘indistrial strength’ ipad pro. I would totally buy that. What chaps my ass is that I dont trust many of their devices anymore not to break easily, and theres no option for me to get an apple product thats not so fragile.

It’s pitched as laptop replacement right ?

Since 1980 I’ve never treated any of my MacBook / MacBook Pro’s any different , and my 2017 MacBook Pro , most expansive by far to date , scratched , work machine and still same shape ;)

With the current iPad Pro being the best laptop replacement , I should not have to put it in a case and treat it with more TLC based price .

Be it the original iPad or the iPad Pro, the Apple way is, seamless for the end user . You know you have gone wrong when you need to train the consumer how to handle a new product , and the more expansive the more delicate .

If I need to get a case for it to be durable , just build the thing thicker ....but don’t think Tim wants to loose out on the revenue that the cases will generate , not what people are worried from all those media Stunts bending iPads

Exactly.
With the current apple ipads phones and laptops you have to pick your poison:
1) Overly thin and fragile?
2) Overly thin ans thermally throttled?
3) New Keyboard design (for an extra micro-millemeter of thinness) - and as a result more likely to fail
4) All of the above

The iMac Pro impressed me . Actual pro components , thin, but they corrected the thermal / throttling issues of the i7

The opposite is the i9 MacBook Pro - lazy just to slap an i9 into 2017 chassis, and bump the price.

We need more iMac Pro quality and less i9 MacBook Pro .

Being an old old school Apple user , I don’t care too much about the iPad Pro bending , it’s an itoy for me , cannot replace a MacBook Pro for my needs .

My concern is accidental damage; not devices that break with "intended use."

Dropped laptops, phones and iPads. It happens.

The Apple Team on here wax lyrical about how reliable Apple products are, about being best in the industry. In fact one of them claims the failure rate is less than 1/1000. But the Apple Team all seem to buy Applecare+ which seems to cost 20%,or so of the retail price. Something doesn't add up. It would add up if Apple products were unreliable..

You get a sense with the recall data asking for serial numbers between such and such a range. That’s my conjecture.

Even the issue with the iPhone 6 wasn’t 100% because my son had one. It worked till he dropped it.
One drop and its broken???

In addition to the added revenue stream by the increased need to use a case with the latest iPad Pro, there is a subtle psychological ploy at work. The more attention the user has to pay to care for their device, the more emotionally attached they become to it. They feel the need for AppleCare+, screen protectors, covers, back cases, sleeves, etc. They literally baby their devices... as in it being a digital newborn that needs to be cared for.

It's a way to extend brand loyalty in the face of increasing prices.

They're employing the auto sales tactic.... the car salesman pitches how reliable and durable the car is... until... you go to the financing dept... THEN they say that the car is 1 day out of warranty away from needing a complete engine rebuild and you should buy the extended warranty. ;)

Couldn't have said it better. People like Relentless Power and others seem to treat apple like a religion, and any criticisism means you're a heathen who must be 'corrected'.

It’s an opinion site , for all things related to Apple . And I am all for everyone having thier opinion . We all have different experiences, share them.

Only thing I will not stand is for people trying to moderate me , or label me as x or y . I’m not sure why some people feel the need to police these forums , we have moderators , that is arrogant behaviour , as this is not related to anyone I responded to today , but in general on MR

They can call me negative , or “hater” it’s just throwing labels, pointless .

I just find it funny that since 1980 , having owned lots of products , and been active in the apple community, prices , qualify at those prices and Apple moving away from average consumer(prices) is something we should all be worried about.

And for those too young , Apple is starting to loose it’s simple product structure that made it so easy for consumers to get the right product .

Example A consumer had the option of MacBook or MacBook Pro easy . Now MacBook 12, MacBook Air 13, MacBook Pro 13 - why or why.... this is what the PC buying experience is, scratching which of the three to get...

iMac Pro and Mac Pro .... don’t even know what the Mac Pro is being sold.... previously Apple got away with not updating the Mac Pro cause the user could , now that machine has horrible performance..... and giving us the iMac Pro, showed they had no roadmap for the Mac Pro, so it’s a stop gap, cause from my experience in media, more and more companies ditched Apple for PC , apple must have seen drop in sales , so , only reacted to revenue loss and we got an iMac Pro and new Mac Pro coming ....though with cooks pricing and most agencies moved to PC, too late in my opinion.

You raise an excellent point . If some people here saw how many chips and scratches my MacBook Pro had, they would be horrified - it’s a tool.

I get a sense these days, many view Apple products as fashion accessories or jewellery, a status symbol, hence they are happy to baby them. I think Apple is taking advantage of this, heck most need it due to the design choice of Apple to have protruding lens, knowing how OCD the users are and case fixes it.... I bought one .

He he . Oww you don’t get to pigeon hole me as a hater ;) not that easy bud.

I’ve been with Apple since 1980, have stock , and am very much within thier ecosystem. I’ve owned more products than most on this thread .

I was also a huge admirer of Jobs, for me he was apple, and thank god lots of his legacy lives on . He wanted to make products for the average people to make their lives easier . And he would always argue with the board to keep prices down, so as many as people could enjoy Apple products , want a vision eh!

What I hate is current pricing , sky rocketing, meaning Apple is becoming a company for the rich! I blame cook.

I want apple products to be cheaper and be durable and you say I hate apple, be a consumer mate.... it’s a company not a religion .

As a stock holder I don’t want Apple to be a company for the rich and elite, a high street brand . Tim can take Angela with him, we have lots of fashion companies, don’t make Apple another one
I was a stockholder, inherited a pile from my parents, who were very shrewd investors, but disliked jobs and didn't buy my first apple product until the 5s although my family started with iphone 4.

I didn't know jobs argued to keep the cost of the iphone down. Is that why the iphone 1 was released at such a high price it was discounted almost immediately?

At least with the iphones I listed the msrp of the most expensive phones. One could see price increases were modest. The max, which has no equivalent in the past was valued at more of a jump.

Anyway with 250 million plus customers, gazillions of shareholders and disciples of Jobs, opinions are bound to vary.

Yeah, dropped face down on the subway steps and cracked the screen and got an iphone 7 as a present.
I have dropped my Huawei P20 Pro more than a dozen times in three months. Oft face down onto concrete. Works fine. Dropped a flagship Sony device face down onto hard wooden floor and screen cracked all over. Will never buy another Sony device.

Oft-times it's just how the device hits the floor. My 5s and 6s have hit the concrete with no damage to the phone. My ipad 2 hit the concrete and the shattered.

One drop and failure means don't buy from that manufacturer again. Just common sense.

Exit: Sony phone sales are now very low. Probably others have same experience as myself. Don't understand people bring loyal to a manufacturer.

In form and/or function? Based on your use case it could replace your laptop.

I've never dropped my laptop, I'm sure it would break into pieces. I have dropped my ipad on cement and the screen cracked to smithereens.

I'm sure if one of the family macbook airs dropped on the cement, it wouldn't work very well after the drop.

Agreed. Similar to getting into a car crash and having your car get dented? Never buy from that car manufacturer again.:)
