That’s a conjecture as well as apple introduces power mgmt to drive sales.

My laptop and Android mobile have power management but do not throttle. Why I wonder?

If there is a problem apple will address it.

Will they "address" it the same way they addressed Touch Disease on iPhone 6 and Spotgate on iPad Pro 10.5 2017?

They are rated first in customer satisfaction for a reason.
Source?
Btw, what’s “Touch disease”?

More great suppositions. Love to read them. Keep them coming.

Not suppositions. Facts.

1.iPad Pro 2017 has greater durability than iPad Pro 2018.
2.iPad Pro 2018 costs more to make than 2017 model which means lower profit margin. So corners need to be cut to maintain profits.

I always bought applecare on the devices. Especially with the abuse the kids gave their iphone 4, applecare came in handy.

These days with an iPhone costing £999 and £600 repair , you have three choices . Baby your device, AppleCare or buy a case. Apple is milking more money from you ;) . And many will get AppleCare and case.

Look AppleCare has gone upto £199. Greed.

Top iPhone is now £1738.

Let me demonstrate the issue.

From 2007, let’s take the top spec 5S in 2013, £709 . Did not even need a case, very durable phone . So jobs controlled pricing , that was top spec

2018 - Cook - £1500, and It’s so expansive u need insurance and case, £1738.

Cook is awesome for us, give him 5 more years , our top spec iPhone will be £3000, Apple will be located between Prada and Burberry....... or as consumers we start voicing our concerns , I want Apple to remain a company for the people, for that to happen greedy cook has to go.

In form and/or function? Based on your use case it could replace your laptop.

I've never dropped my laptop, I'm sure it would break into pieces. I have dropped my ipad on cement and the screen cracked to smithereens.

I'm sure if one of the family macbook airs dropped on the cement, it wouldn't work very well after the drop.

Agreed. Similar to getting into a car crash and having your car get dented? Never buy from that car manufacturer again.:)
No. Dropping a phone is like a 4mph parking bump on the car. The bumpers absorb the impact.

Edit: If Apple ever make a car it will only cope with a 1mph parking bump.

It’s an opinion site , for all things related to Apple . And I am all for everyone having thier opinion . We all have different experiences, share them.

Only thing I will not stand is for people trying to moderate me , or label me as x or y . I’m not sure why some people feel the need to police these forums , we have moderators , that is arrogant behaviour , as this is not related to anyone I responded to today , but in general on MR

They can call me negative , or “hater” it’s just throwing labels, pointless .

I just find it funny that since 1980 , having owned lots of products , and been active in the apple community, prices , qualify at those prices and Apple moving away from average consumer(prices) is something we should all be worried about.

And for those too young , Apple is starting to loose it’s simple product structure that made it so easy for consumers to get the right product .

Example A consumer had the option of MacBook or MacBook Pro easy . Now MacBook 12, MacBook Air 13, MacBook Pro 13 - why or why.... this is what the PC buying experience is, scratching which of the three to get...

iMac Pro and Mac Pro .... don’t even know what the Mac Pro is being sold.... previously Apple got away with not updating the Mac Pro cause the user could , now that machine has horrible performance..... and giving us the iMac Pro, showed they had no roadmap for the Mac Pro, so it’s a stop gap, cause from my experience in media, more and more companies ditched Apple for PC , apple must have seen drop in sales , so , only reacted to revenue loss and we got an iMac Pro and new Mac Pro coming ....though with cooks pricing and most agencies moved to PC, too late in my opinion.

Good roar!

My use case ? I’ve dropped my mac book pro , sat on it , don’t care how it goes into my backpack .... this delicate iPad Pro, cannot ...

Okay, one of the reasons aluminium is a great choice for a laptop, heat and durability , dropping a laptop will usually result in nasty dents . And usually the screen is fine as it’s protected . A MacBook Pro will not break into pieces .

Laptops typically have big batteries and typically not used in extreme temperature conditions. Android phones don't use power management but just shut off. I can provide citations if needed.

Will they "address" it the same way they addressed Touch Disease on iPhone 6 and Spotgate on iPad Pro 10.5 2017?
Ask apple. Apple will address any potential issues.

I'm not testing the durability of my laptops by dropping them. I'll live through others vicariously, doing the testing.

I’ve must go too, he went nuts!

I actually agree. Him and Steve , excellent, Steve would reign him in , as bob would push back - and Steve would not ship a product that he knew would bend etc.

With Scott and bob gone , ives got too much power. He should only focus on design, but engineering needs to be able to push back . Basics Cook ignorea as his vision goes as far as virtue signalling and profit on an excel spreadsheet.

One thing I am greatful they have not stuffed up , privacy , one reason the iPhone is my choice - secure .

Damage of This type is common. For many Apple users , that is a product that needs to be replaced :p but when u work in the field, and it functionally works , who cares .

Point is , it’s durable . Unibody is a great design - minus the daft inclusion of the i9 in a chassis barely dealing with i7.

I baby my iphones. I baby my laptops and ipads. I expect these devices to break when dropped and surprised when they don't. My phones have cases and screen protectors.

Applecare costs $99 with the iphone 4. I just paid $250 for the max, but now that includes theft. 8 years later, including theft doesn't seem to be an unreasonable price jump to insure a $1400 phone.

We come full circle - for yourself and many others here, down playing this issue, as you take great care of your devices, this is a non issue. You guys are in fact the best Apple consumers , those who baby and protect their devices .

It’s the others that are the problem, those who use them as tools and treat r as tools .

As I demonstrated roughy from iPhone 1 to iPhone 5S , small incremental price increase - £709 and AppleCare £99

5s to iPhone XS - £1500 and £200 ridiculous- it’s doubled

Worse Cook raising his prices has meant Samsung etc also put theirs up ..... cause when Apple prices their phone at £999 to £1500, u go up to still be cheaper and make more profit. We all loose as consumers . Don’t worry, by the time Apple realises they are back to the sculley era, be too late , but if you parents ask to this break what the difference is between MacBook 12, mac book air 13 and MacBook Pro 13, cause they are confused , remember history ....but this time around, no Steve to come back and fix it.... ;)

Yes I moan cause I was an Apple customer through Sculley era..... Cook is another Sculley, who comes across as a SJW , nice guy etc etc - he just cares about $$$ , and not Apple like Jobs did. There is more to a company than just profit .... sculley did not get that , and almot ruined apple, but he took Apple from 500 million to 8 billion ....
[doublepost=1545756829][/doublepost]It’s xmass :) so I’ll leave people with this quote . And the part that matters the most , the last part, what Apple was built for . Products for the people

“John Sculley ruined Apple and he ruined it by bringing a set of values to the top of Apple which were corrupt and corrupted some of the top people who were there, drove out some of the ones who were not corruptible, and brought in more corrupt ones and paid themselves collectively tens of millions of dollars and cared more about their own glory and wealth than they did about what built Apple in the first place which was making great computers for people to use.”

I went through the Sculley era.

What we see with the iPad Pro, and other products lately , is how Sculley took Apple from 500 million to 8 billion and almost ruined apple. That one is for the people who say financial gain is the only measure of success.

Recommend some of you who are policing this forum , do some reading , especially the Sculley Era and return of Jobs. I’m old enough to have been a Apple consumer during those . Seeing the top spec double in price under Cook..... think it through .... your salaries double in last 5 or so years ?

Merry Xmas !

Pretty sure Apple dealt with the Throttling with a software fix.

The i9 is not suitable for the chassis . It still underperforms, as do other windows PCs that lack suitable cooling .

The sotware fixed a blatant bug , that should never have passed simple testing , the MacBook Pro still underperforms compared to what the potential of the i9 is of cooled .

I am pretty sure the i9 is labeled as the same watt chip as the i7. Both are labeled as 45 watt if I am looking at the right part.

Merry Xmas back at you!

The iphone 5s unlocked at introduction was $850. The Xs Max 256 is $1249. Let's round it to 50%, for 4.7 to 6.5, lcd to oled, single camera to dual camera, plus other assorted goodies. In 2014 Porsche introduced the 918 at a cost of $845,000. Comparing that model to an earlier high-end 6 years ago this model maybe costs 8 times that amount. Of course this 918 is a beast and has capabilities not found on other Porsches when it was released, similar to the Max.

Applecare went from $99 in 2013 to $199 in 2018. Not a terrible increase, but add $100 for theft protection, something not offered previously.

The model T sold for $450 and now you can spend $500,000 on a Ford, after all they are cars by the same company. Similar to charting the price increase since the iphone 1.

As far as the "best" apple customer. My thought all apple customers are the "best" apple customers. I don't understand comments like that. It's almost as if you are annoyed about the way I treat my devices and spend my money with apple, because they are not being taught the lesson you believe they should be taught. That is how many posts on MR come off.

If you believe Cook is ruining apple, you might want to sell your stock.

Cook will make me ££ short term . I’m worried beyond short gains . Had apple ceased to exist under sculley , you wouldn’t be so happy with Apple today ;) let’s try to make sure your kids enjoy the company for the people ;)

I’m old enough to be ur father maybe, so pardon the grumpy old man

Maybe mobile windows would have really taken off, if apple really went south.

LOL, if you think you are old enough to be my father you would have to be approaching 100. Thankfully I can still lift weights, spend 1 hour on the elliptical and run more than a few miles.

Though the issue raised here , is it manafacturing issues or design issue . My opinion is that people are worried that the design , and thinnes etc means it’s the least durable iPad to date and many are concerned about how the devices will hold up and concerns beyond 14 day return period .

We should not assume the issue it’s small or large, too early as it’s just been released , and we don’t have access to stats.

People who are worried should get AppleCare + , thing bends , Apple has to replace it . Though sad that now for some devices you need to get it, not to cover what we might do, but what Apple has delivered .

And like the video I posted , iPad 1 v iPad Pro, it’s ridiculous how easy the new one bends, so let’s realistic here, at least let’s stop pretending this is not the least durable iPad .

The bottom line is that portable devices like the iPad are more ergonomic when they are light. Battery life, durability, and weight is all a compromise with a thin line. I'm sure Apple thinks they have it right so we'll just have to wait to see how it plays out.

The article falls squarely into the clickbait territory, since we're talking about a 400 micron tolerance and the image displayed is clearly greater than that. Of course this is nothing new for MacRumors.

I have the 12.9 iPad Pro. The difference between naked and cased is significant. Honestly it’s prefer no case and thicker iPad Pro.

Look at the x - great phone, nothing wrong with making something a bit heavier and thicker for a portable

A portable should not be heavy and should have good battery life. iPads were never heavy

Most written here is subjective

The Ford T , started at around $800, following year hit $900 and last version sold for $360 in about 20 years. It actually dropped in price by over 50% during its cycle.

And that is the power of the consumer - when u don’t pay $900, the price keeps dropping until you do pay

My advice , don’t use car anologies - they don’t work.
