Actually, it's quite common that Apple mobile products are slightly bent. I handle quite a lot of portables at work, and I've learned from a guy I know at an AASP how to fix it: you just bend it the other way.
That is, or at least has been, the official way to fix these things. Take the unit out back, bend it the other way, check for flatness, repeat until flat. Return to customer.
It's metal, of course you can bend it slightly. I would assume, that if these bent iPads are for real, they can just bring them to an Apple Store and the "genius" will take it out back, bend it right, and then return it.

I would not recommend to bend it yourself though, let the genius bend it, if it breaks, you get a new one.

The same Steve Jobs who said "you're holding it wrong". Or oversaw a sea of graphics card failures in their portables.

Face it: they've always been a bunch of pretentious ass-hats when it comes to products. Personally I love Apple products and wouldn't consider buying anything else, but responses like what they are and have been saying are pretty difficult to defend.

Nope. Revisionist history. Apple used to make amazing products, well worth paying more for. So called antenna-gate was growing pains in a field they were new to, graphics cards come from a third party. Not ideal, but not an intentional design flaw.

They also gave away cases to help the antenna problem, and FIXED thousands and thousands of laptops with video probs for years and years for free. They went above and beyond to make it right. They didn't say "graphic card failure is within tolerance"

Now Ive is just plain designing garbage, WAY fewer features in every release, WAY fewer ports, not upgradeable, not repairable, less usable, less quality... for 2x what they used to charge ( 4x what they used to charge for iPhones and iPads.) Jobs would have straight up fired somebody for publicly saying a bent ( or bendable ) iPad is "within tolerance". Or for suggesting a new model iPhone with a $1600 price tag.

They once were a tech company, now they think they are a fashion brand.

My new Pro lays perfectly flat. If you have one that is bowed or curved, or have PERSONAL experience with this, please post a picture. I truly suspect this is quite the non-story.

Since no one is claiming that EVERY iPad is having this issue, your anecdotal experience is simply taking up space. I don't imagine a lot of people are going to take you up on your request, since their time can be better spent in other ways than convincing an Apple Apologist® that the problem exists.

“Blah microns blah blah flatness blah function blah. Note, just like a slight dent in expensive new automobile, a slight bend in a new iPad Pro will not affect function.”

I wanted to post this....

"Do you really think a new car is 100% the same as another one of the same model, do you really think your side fenders are the same on each side of your car, they too have tolerances and I bet it's more than 0,4 mm."

... but then I realised you're saying the same.

Seems pretty straightforward. If it’s outside of the 400 microns it’s a defect and gets replaced I’d assume?

Well, the iPad shown in the picture they keep tossing on my screen is certainly more than the 400microns they say is within tolerance. If that one is a valid return, then I’m cool. I’d like to see an image which depicts a 400 micron bend, and then we can discuss if Apple is nuts or not. I imagine 400 microns is probably nothing anyone would even notice. Heck the camera bump is nearly four times that.

The first entry-level iPhone was a $500 deposit with at least $100 per month contract for 2 years — mandatory. It was more expensive than a lot of the phones now when you add that up.

Replacing Logic Boards? Yep, after quite a few class action lawsuits. No change there.

Way fewer ports? In terms of number, yes. In terms of functionality, way more. Steve was all about minimalism. He’d have chewed your arm at the bone for TB3.

“Less quality” doesn’t make much sense to me. A lot of their products are much better built in terms of materials. My 2012 15” MBP’s plastic hinge has disintegrated on the back. The base of my 2009 MacBook warped. My Dad’s 2007 MacBook flakes to pieces. No crummy plastic to be found these days.

Agree to disagree if you wish. There’ll always be exceptions to the rules. But I don’t think I’m the one revising history here.

OK really Apple will it be that hard to just say that you released a bad batch and that you will replace them free of charge and MoveOn? Why did again so deep and insist that our expensive device is being bent is OK? Ridiculous. And any Apple fan of that defends this instantly lose my respect

The image isn’t of an iPad that meets spec then. So why post it?

Show us an iPad with only 3 pieces of paper bend edge to edge.

Funny how everyone is showing their rage out based on an exaggerated picture. Do people know what 400 microns are?
I have a 10.5" that is just as bendable, and it has been perfect. It travels every single day in my backpack with no issues whatsoever.

Yes we do, cause it stands in the article, hahahahah

Apple's specification for iPad Pro flatness is up to 400 microns, which is "even tighter than previous generations."
"400 microns" is a one-dimensional measure and cannot be a flatness specification. What's missing is the span. Without that qualification this is a meaningless statement. If it is meant as 400 microns diagonally across the 12.9" iPad Pro body then that would be a legitimate statement, and perhaps reasonable, but there's no way the iPad in the photo is 400 microns (0.4 mm) off the surface.

Apple should be ashamed. But it’s fine long term. Once they have enough of a hit in profit and finally realize that they charge too much for their products, their service has become lackluster, and now they make just outright asnine indefensible comments they will wake up. They are certainly not too big to fail.

lets just say that it wouldn't be the first time some overzealous haters had fabricated an issue. It sounds more like Apple is dealing with different facts than the assumed defect. Maybe we can all just wait to find out what the real facts are.

From my perspective, If the bend is real, I would keep taking them back under the return policy until I got an unbent one, or take it back and say screw it. However, because there are so many trolls faking issues, I am not sure I believe that the bend is real. 400 microns is not much. The bend shown in the lead photo greatly exceeds 400 microns.

Its terrible in a world of "alternate facts", and made up sensationalists you really don't know what to believe.

So if you buy it and its bent, take it back!
