For those of you wondering about the rMBP update, note that AllThingsD cites Current Editorials, which states: "The Mac line has not been forgotten, as the late-2013 editions of the Macbook Pro and Mac Mini will be announced during the event, according to our sources. Both computers will receive Intel’s Haswell processors as part of their update."

Good News! :D

Assuming Retina is indeed standard and improvement on camera isn't as big a deal on tablets as on phone. Then I'm guessing A7 will only be on Regular and A6 will still run the mini. There may be other minor software differences that enhance the appeal of "Regular".

That's been my prediction as a differentiator: A6[X] variant in the Mini, A7[X] variant for the full size.

I don't believe in recent product lines, we've seen an iOS device skip a processor, if you consider the Mini a product in itself. For example:

iPhone, A4, A5, A6, A7

iPad (full size), A4, A5, A5X, A6X ... A7X?

iPad Mini, A5 ... ???

Apple also seems to be introducing more budget friendly models using the previous SoC as the premium model moves to the next gen (iPhone 5S gets the A7, new iPhone 5C gets the A6).

I think if Apple really want to position the Mini "under" the regular model, they'll use the A6X.

All darylmple said was 'yep'. He did say or confirm anything about iPads or rMBP, he was simply just confirming the event

Note what he chose not to quote.

He's done this before, he's very careful what he chooses to omit. (Of course, AllthingsD is very reliable as well, so there's still a good chance we'll see Macs.)

Awesome. Thanks for the info! :D

1. Introduce non-retina mini with A6 starting at $299.

2. Introduce retina mini with A7X starting at $399.

3. Introduce iPad 5 with Touch ID and A7X for $499.

This would be so great. The worst-case szenario is an iPad Mini with Retina Display and the crappy A5X processor. The current A5 in the iPad Mini is soo slow compared to the A7 or even the A6.

I really don't care about the money, I just want an iPad Mini with Retina display, A7(X) and Touch ID. If I had to choose 2 out of 3 I would go with Retina Display and A7, Touch ID would be nice though. I bought the Mini because of it's size and it's weight, the price was not that important. So a price increase would be perfectly fine for me this time if I get what I want.

To the new Mac Pro: I bet there will be a 4k Apple Cinema Display because they advertised at WWDC that the Mac Pro can handle up to 2 (or 3?) 4k displays so it would absolutely make no sense if they don't sell them. Every Mac Pro owner would buy a 4k display from a different manufacturer and Apple would loose a bunch of money. Especially with Tim Cook as CEO I can't see this happen.

You think Apple will reduce the price of a product that is already being sold with low margins by their standards?

I repeat: Apple does not do cheap!

it has nothing to do with doing cheap, you keep repeating that, and it's not even relevant...:D
didin't you see what they did with iPad (2)?

they will either just clear current minis (same thing they do when they release new iMac/MacBooks)and replace them with mini 2,or will sell the old mini cheaper.

First gen? That must be crazy slow.

Not if you root in and remove daemons and language packs... as well as use the 'animation speed up' app on cydia. It's pretty much the same as an ipad 2 on ios7..

Ipad 3/4 or whatever looks like it's IOS5 and Ipad the render is IOS6..

Sorry to be picky but can we have one with IOS7 or can anybody do one?

It's still hard to believe they shipped the mini with such a crappy display. When it goes retina it will be a seriously lust-worthy device.

YAY - the 22nd will give me 1 day to return my BTO imac if the "pro" is epically better :)

You can roll your eyes all you want, his point is well taken. Apple absolutely is not as focused on their computer line than they are the iToys. And, as you rightly point out, that while they spend and MAKE billions off of their Mac line, Apple is obviously more concentrated on the more profitable iToy line of consumer products.

For those of us who have been Mac users for a long time, we can only hope that Apple spins off the Mac division as a separate entity. PC's are far from dead, but Apple doesn't believe that and I fear the day is coming when they announce "in 2 weeks we're going to quit making Macs 'cause hardly anyone is buying them"....

After-all, they've done it before.

" Apple absolutely is not as focused on their computer line than they are the iToys. "

Well... one could have said that before, serially, until they rolled out the first Powerbook, iBook, MacBook, MacBook Air. But with that track record I'd not be sayin' it any more. :)

Steve never would of released it

sorry for my ignorance or bad memory, but are ipads usually available immediately or do they have the 7-10 days lag prior to being able to buy?

My question is how Apple can differentiate the "Regular" from the Mini if the specs are essentially the same. Similar to 5S and 5C - there needs to be incentive(s) for people to pay considerably more for the "Regular".
They shouldn't differentiate. Nor should the mini be cheaper. It's absurd that people think the mini should be cheaper. In technology, when two products have identical specs, the miniaturized one is the one that took more R&D to produce. Smaller tech is more advanced tech. The mini should cost more.

The only practical reason for the mini to be cheaper is if it's got inferior tech in some areas, like camera, CPU, fingerprint, retina, etc. If it's identical but smaller and cheaper, Apple is sacrificing profit margin.

Android tablets are cheaper through a combination of accepting lower profit margins and using lower quality (cheaper) parts.

how on earth woudl you know? youve never even been in the same room as the man, let alone know what hed do. he released Ping, Final Cut Pro X, ipod socks, etc...

so sick of that dumb phrase brought out by people who have no idea.

Lol, I remember those. "to keep your iPod warm". I thought it was a joke.

I never thought current iPad looks really bad and outdated compared to rumored thinner iPad 5th gen. Especially side by side. Plain ugly and too boxy.

Thinner and smaller profile looks even sexier now. No wonder Apple loves iPad Mini more than current iPad RD.

And yet the current non-mini design happened on Steve's watch. ;)

I'm guessing Mac Pro as one more thing and then a "silent" update of the rMBP lines to haswell? They have a lot to release still, and they'll need time to have supply in the channel for the holidays...
