To all the people predicting an "A7X" processor in the new iPads: Please stop! After months of that, when there is no A7X, all the trolls are going to be screaming: "Epic Fail!!"

There will be no A7X. The A5X and A6X were necessary because the A5 and A6 didn't have the graphics horsepower to run the higher pixel-count iPad displays. That's why Apple put this killer quad-core GPU in the A7, so the same chip could be used across the whole product line.

Please don't give the idiots ammunition for their lying crap.

The raw power of the A7 is not really higher than the A6X on average, and the benchmarks that is showing and increase does not show enough of an improvement to market on. I really doubt Apple wants to try to market the iPad 5 as 1.3X the iPad 4.

In many tests the A6X was more than twice as fast as the A6 (it also pushes 76 GFLOPS compared to the A6s 26 GFLOPS). And Apple is marketing the A7 as twice as fast as the A6. Thery would also want to differentiate their products.

I don't see Apple not having an A7X in their iPad 5, less because they actually need that performance and more because of being able to market it as much faster than the previous version. And also say it is faster than the competing Android tablets now that 3DMark (the average consumers favorite benchmark to compare on the computer side) is released for iOS and Android. They can also fit a pysically bigger chip than the A7 in the iPad compared to the iPhone, and I think they would like to take advantage of the lower space constraints.

An iPad Mini with retina (if released) on the other hand I could see getting the A7 as that would actually be a big update.

New Mac lineup

Mavericks debut with new Mac Pro, Macbooks and upgraded iMacs.

That's because Jim Dalrymple keeps proving you wrong. And we keep telling you that but yet you also don't want to seem to listen either. ;)

The point is not whether he is right or wrong. The point is did Apple say it or not? Jim Dalrymple can have a 100% success rate with his rumours and it won't change the issue.

The difference here is a plausible rumour (which is what Jim Dalrymple gave us) or confirmed fact (which can only come from Apple).

Jim Dalrymple is usually on the mark with his rumours and that's a good thing as we know what to expect. But they are still rumours no matter how plausible they seem. Even I have a keen interest with what he says. But I still always wait for Apple to confirm things. Then I know it's really confirmed.

A retina iPad mini would be a killer product. A6X SoC, perhaps? I wonder.

I'll be a bit upset if the MacBook Pros don't get an update, they'e been due one since June.

My budget dictates I have to prioritise my apple upgrades for next 18 months. My 09 Mbp will need an upgrade next year for work so have to stick with iphone5 and ipad3 for another year. But, you know, for the stuff I use my iPad for, it's fine. Can't have everything you waant

The Apple UK Online Store is also down, maybe Mac refresh will be stealthy after all ?

How can Apple " turn over" something they don't have?

Well, you have heard about software updates = changing code in the OS and software? And for the other guy (0029937) posting a picture of a tinfoil hat is pretty pathetic on his part, considering USA does have secret courts (FISA) putting binding orders on big corporations based on the notion every single person needs to be supervised. (While the Obama adminitration is sending weapons to Al Queda in Syria btw. Yeah, and spending several billion dollars on creating data centers for collecting Am. phone communications.) Even the Yahoo executive said you can be accused of treason and imprisoned if you go out publically and criticize how the NSA operates. That doesn't tell you anything? Just because MSNBC isn't covering it, doesn't mean it's not happening. Who knows what NSA might demand of Apple in the future, and Apple won't be able to go public with it.

It's really sad to see how lazy and ignorant a lot people are in the USA (and Europe). Obviously there are plenty of intelligent people who understand the bigger picture and how we as consumers have a responsiblity to hold the big corporations accountable, but there should be more. Every person counts.

i think it is possible, store is down all over the earth... not usre if there is place for another event this year, so mb pro stealth update today, maybe... :D

I wonder if we will see a A7X this time? The A7 seems to be a very powerful and capable chip, maybe there will be no need for it this time.

So the event IS coming on the 22?

The A7 is as powerful as the A6X so it would be pointless to buy a new one. A7X will be in the next iPad. Expect 1.4-1.5 Ghz clock speed and a G6630 GPU instead of a G6430 in the 5S. If the jump is the same as it was with the iPhone 5 to iPad 4, the iPad 5 will be 2.67X faster GPU than the iPhone 5S putting it in at 205Gflops.

You can roll your eyes all you want, his point is well taken. Apple absolutely is not as focused on their computer line than they are the iToys. And, as you rightly point out, that while they spend and MAKE billions off of their Mac line, Apple is obviously more concentrated on the more profitable iToy line of consumer products.

For those of us who have been Mac users for a long time, we can only hope that Apple spins off the Mac division as a separate entity. PC's are far from dead, but Apple doesn't believe that and I fear the day is coming when they announce "in 2 weeks we're going to quit making Macs 'cause hardly anyone is buying them"....

After-all, they've done it before.
Oh please. Spinning off the Mac lin would be a terrible decision. Apple is focused on their computer lines, they did release a new Mac Pro, when honestly most thought it would be discontinued. Also the rMBP is an amazing leap in display quality.

I do think they could be doing more, for example RAM should still be user-replaceable.

Just give me 2GB RAM in the full size iPad (with a mini like form factor) and I'll be a happy camper.

There was unconfirmed leaks from Sonny Dickson saying the the iPad 5 will have 2Gn of RAM.

What I see happening is:

1.4Ghz A7X Dual Core
2Gb of DDR3 RAM
G6630 GPU outputting at 205Gflops
iPad mini form factor

The A_X variants were for the extra CPU power needed to push the higher display. These were usually 100MHz increase in clockspeed and the iPad 5 will be no different. The GPU will have to be the G6630 as it needs the higher GPU power for the higher res screen and as the iPhone 5S is running the G6430 as its GPU, the G6630 is the only option for Apple. Apple never put the quad core GPU in the 5S for the iPad 4; it is a PowerVR Series 6 G6430 so stop fibbing :)

The iPhones GPU performs at the same level as the iPad 4's GPU yet is much more efficient, and takes strain off the CPU for graphically intensive visuals.

So the iPad 5 will have have the A7X variant (I expect a 1.4-1.5Ghz clock speed) with a G6630 GPU outputting at around 205Glfops.

That 205Gflops is what I expect as it is the same jump as the iPhone 5 was to the 5S, the iPhone 5 to the iPad 4. That number is 2.67X. This could be even better though. In terms of flitting point calculations, Apple lied about the iPhone 5S GPU, they said upto 2X, where as in fact it was 2.67X. If we get the same jump with the iPad (which I believe is minimum, could be larger), then we are going to see some pretty amazing games and Pro apps on the App Store within the next 12 months :)

I'm i the only one that's wanting the 5th gen ipad to have ios6 I know Itl never happen but I think it'd b awesome! Not a fan of ios7 it looks tacky like a child's toy not something id pay on a premium product for! Anyway rock on gold ipad 5 with touch id mmmm

First, Apple strangely delayed the iPhone 5s/5c sales numbers to match the day of the Microsoft Surface 2 keynote (released the numbers 2 hours before it).
Now Apple makes a keynote for the iPad the very same day Surface 2 is shipping. ¿Coincidence much?

I thought Apple was proud of being "above the competitors" like in "we-don't-pay-attention-to-them", something like Nintendo (for better or worse, haha).

It seems NOT. :D

Seriously, it seems they really wants to crash MS's party. I don't remember Apple doing these things before (maybe I just forgot?). Makes me feel a little bit sad, but I guess big companies are always trying to destroy or annoy each other at any time they can.

EDIT: I forgot 22 is also Nokia's tablets and phablets keynote, hehe.

Apple is holding these events at the same time as last year (allowing for the same day of the week.) They couldn't give less of a damn about Micro$haft's doomed tablets.

iPhone and iPad events are on the exact same week and day of the previous year. Unless you think MS has planned its events a year ago, Apple somehow got a hold of these plans and planned to upstage MS a year ago, your assertion makes no sense. If you believe in this sequence of events, well, you still make no sense. :)

iPad Mini skipping a generation of chips does not make much sense, considering its price bracket. If it does, I'd expect another iPad Mini model, plastic body with an A6X type chip, as a "c" equivalent.
