Well, of course there is no way to know for sure when each company made its plans.
But the fact is that MS announced its date 3 weeks before Apple. Also Ms announced the Surface Keynote with weeks in advance and Apple could release their numbers at any time (2 hours before the Surface presentation so all press talks about that? Lucky lucky! :))

And regarding "Apple keynote is same date as last year", well, Apple could do the same day, or any other. They often change the keynotes dates, thats why people is alway listening for rumors about the dates.

Any way, I don't want to make my somehow humourous statements into a conspiranoic theory, haha. Who knows anyway why they do what they do!.

Let's enjoy the upcoming iPad keynote and hope it will have some real surprise (not just faster/lighter and maybe the finger sensor. That are good things but... one more thing :))

Marc

iPhone and iPad events are on the exact same week and day of the previous year. Unless you think MS has planned its events a year ago, Apple somehow got a hold of these plans and planned to upstage MS a year ago, your assertion makes no sense. If you believe in this sequence of events, well, you still make no sense. :)

If they hate MS 1% of what you hate MS (did Bill Gates killed your dog or what? :) ), then I think they mind a LOT, haha. :p

Apple is holding these events at the same time as last year (allowing for the same day of the week.) They couldn't give less of a damn about Micro$haft's doomed tablets.

If there is a retina iPad Mini announced I wonder how fast it will sell out? Let's hope it's not like last year's iMac and that there is at least a chance of getting one this calendar year.

Yep they definitely don't care about computers, even if they do spend billions a year on manufacturing them

I don't believe they don't care about computers, but people who believe it just have to think that a Mac is needed to develop iOS apps. So relax, they DO care about computers.

With the same processor and going retina (higher dpi than reg ipad) do you think they bump the minis price?
Yes I do! But if than not by much.
How do they keep the profit margin up on the mini without raising the price and adding all these new features?
They might be willing to sacrifice margin in order to grow a lead in 64-bit tablet install base. This kind of computing power at this price point could really accelerate growth. This new iPad mini might even destroy the Android tablet market completely.
Maybe they skimp on the mini ram? worse camera? no touch id?
I don't believe in Touch-ID for the iPad mini. Its an unnecessary gimmick at this point, because iPads are living room computers, much less times outside than iPhones. But the camera will be great and in combination with an A7 chip it will get all those great Slo-Mo and Burst Mode features. Just no True Tone flash. There will be enough RAM, not plenty just enough, like always with Apple.

You people griping about "Apple doesn't care bout Macs anymore" are crazy. The macs are there to develop the apps for the real money maker the iOS platform.

it has nothing to do with doing cheap, you keep repeating that, and it's not even relevant...:D
didin't you see what they did with iPad (2)?

they will either just clear current minis (same thing they do when they release new iMac/MacBooks)and replace them with mini 2,or will sell the old mini cheaper.
iPad 2 had much higher margins. Big difference.

----------

Makes sense if they want to consolidate their silicon footprint... not sure if they want to spend developmental bandwidth on that. There will be old minis out there anyways.

As to margins... Wouldn't it be great if they could just break even? They make plenty of dough on apps and media (from some people at least... might need to be a rewards program with limited supply per user so people don't take advantage).

Also, storage space upgrades should definitely be subsidized or free. Again, I'm buying media from Apple here. Why not give me space which entices me to fill it up? If you're going to have a walled garden with one concession stand, wouldn't you want me to have the largest picnic table as possible?

You'll get all my money somehow Apple, don't worry.

(end of thread hijacking)
I get your point. Thing is, you're desciribing Amazon. Apple is not Amazon and they won't be. That's not their strategy.

I don't see that they care as much as 3 years ago!

They apparently don't have the ressources and prefere focusing on everything else then Macs.

I can understand it from a business point of view, nevertheless I don't like it and I decided to buy a MS operating laptop, since the current rMBP is not up to date and I was not willing to pay the apple premium for this device. At least for the moment, I am not happy with Apple.

Oh please. Spinning off the Mac lin would be a terrible decision. Apple is focused on their computer lines, they did release a new Mac Pro, when honestly most thought it would be discontinued. Also the rMBP is an amazing leap in display quality.

I do think they could be doing more, for example RAM should still be user-replaceable.

When did Apple "release" a new Mac Pro??? They told us 4 months ago that they were going to "release" this garbage can looking thing that is marginally expandable but as far as I know it's not out yet....

We can agree to disagree. I will grant you that Apple is still making computers, and in the area of portables, some of the best high end computers ever produced. But their desktop offerings are a joke - and it would behoove them to either spin off that business as a separate company or offer an exclusive license to one high end manufacture who will continue to design and build modern desktop machines for those of us who need a little more than the "post-PC" era is offering....

so the left off will be release on 22 OCT.
ipad mini 2 - retina/ipad4 CPU&GPU
ipad 5 - A7 TouchID
haswell macbook pro 13" & 15"
haswell mac mini
mac pro

we all agree here ok?

and they left the spring for their entirely new device(iTV or iwatch)

Yes I do! But if than not by much.

I don't believe A7 in new mini.... No differentiation. 6X I'd believe.

Well I don't think any OS release is flawless but I don't experience any of those issues with iOS7. Maybe your iPad just isn't up for the task of running such an up to date OS.

iPad 3rd gen. Maybe I should update to iOS 7. I purposely didn't b/c I figured it would be worse.

I don't believe A7 in new mini.... No differentiation. 6X I'd believe.
I understand you. The reason I give some credit to this rumor is that they speak about the A7, which already has quad-core graphics, and not an imaginary A7X, which presumably would add quad-core graphics to an A7 chip.

Maybe Apple doesn't want performance differentiation between iPad and iPad mini? Maybe their understanding is, that the biggest chunk of the market is with fast small tablets? I hope so. I for one would rather pay a little more.

Now that you know it exists, would you buy another iDevice without 64-bit?

First gen? That must be crazy slow.

Mine is slow.....sort of. What's worse is how low-res everything looks. And no iOS 7 for me!

That said, for sitting around emailing, iMessaging, listening to music, podcasts etc it's still just fine. Not bad for a first gen device approaching four years of age (I got it about eight days after its release).

If the Mini does go retina, then it's my upgrade, though. It's just the right size.

Wasn't the 5S announced on the 10th for a 20th release?
Is the new iPad harder to make??

They're always released about 1-2 weeks later, this will be the exact same. So yes of course it will easily be available long before Christmas, and in plenty of time for Black Friday.

I don't see that they care as much as 3 years ago!
Three years ago? That was when I bought my rubbish MacBook Pro 13" (1280 x 800) with an 256 GB spinning HDD and an DVD player I never use. It was the last MacBook with an Core2Duo CPU and therefore had 10 hours of battery life. For some licensing reason they couldn't stick a modern i5 CPU and an Nvidia GPU in it and cheaped out on the CPU.

I do not complain, the machine was always fast enough for me. But man are those new Retina MacBook Pros better in every way, with Haswell soon even in battery life. And PCIe-SSDs versus a Sata-II Connector? Don't get me startet. I you don't see this progress, it has something to do with your eyesight.
