I'm no longer interested in the iPad, as almost everything I need to do can be done on my iPhone. I want more advanced applications.

Think about it. Now that Apple has begun the transition to 64-bit they naturally want to complete it as soon as possible. In less than 12 month all iDevices will be 64-bit anyway. And down the road devices with 32-bit ARM chips will be the first to no longer be supported by the newest iOS version. Delivering both 64- and 32-bit code can only be a makeshift solution. Sooner than later new apps in the AppStore will come as 64-bit downloads only. For longevity you want to make the switch now.

First, Apple strangely delayed the iPhone 5s/5c sales numbers to match the day of the Microsoft Surface 2 keynote (released the numbers 2 hours before it).
Now Apple makes a keynote for the iPad the very same day Surface 2 is shipping. ¿Coincidence much?

Not sure what you are talking about - Apple always announces iPhone sales the Monday after launch. What delay?

As for iPad event, yes, likely another coincidence. Apple likes Tuesdays & probably was delaying the event to let inventory accumulate in local warehouses to save on shipping costs. Your Black Helicopter theories don't add up. Maybe if it was a Google, but MS really doesn't seem to be on Apple's radar right now. That was last decade & century's rivalry.

Many things were released with issues during Steve's rain, ever heard of the iPhone 4 "antenna-gate," which Steve vehemently shot down, only to later do a completely 180 on?

Stop acting like Steve was perfect, that comment is so old and so asinine

I agree Jobs was not perfect, but antenna gate was not an Apple error. The iPhone 4 is still being sold as new in some places today. Apple never changed the antenna design. Jobs also never acknowledged there being a problem. Instead he said the issue was inherent in all cellphones. I had an old Motorola phone where in the instructions it actually said not to hold the phone a certain way. If anything Apple's iPhone 4's antenna was a feature in that unlike other smartphones you could tell exactly where to touch it to cause antenna depreciation.

This is not accurate whatsoever. Jobs did acknowledge it (read his biography), it was brought to him before release but he stood fast because he said it wasn't an issue and he didn't want to change anything - they did change the iPhone 4 and the one you could buy today is not the same as the one that was initially released.

Agreed; at least it supports iTunes Match and can handle Airplay/Bluetooth audio playback which makes it a perfect "leave on the kitchen counter" gadget.

Mine is slow.....sort of. What's worse is how low-res everything looks. And no iOS 7 for me!

That said, for sitting around emailing, iMessaging, listening to music, podcasts etc it's still just fine. Not bad for a first gen device approaching four years of age (I got it about eight days after its release).

If the Mini does go retina, then it's my upgrade, though. It's just the right size.

I thought Apple was proud of being "above the competitors" like in "we-don't-pay-attention-to-them", something like Nintendo (for better or worse, haha).

It seems NOT. :D

Seriously, it seems they really wants to crash MS's party. I don't remember Apple doing these things before (maybe I just forgot?). Makes me feel a little bit sad, but I guess big companies are always trying to destroy or annoy each other at any time they can.

EDIT: I forgot 22 is also Nokia's tablets and phablets keynote, hehe.

You seem to be overlooking two things. First, Apple has historically released iPhone sales numbers the Monday after the IPhone has been available in stores. It did the same thing this time.

Second, Apple is a company of habit. It held the iPad announcements the same time last year. Consequently, it is more likely Microsoft and Nokia scheduled their events to try and take some of Apple's thunder.

First of all, I've read the biography and he never admits that there's an actual design problem with the antenna. He just says he had to cut short the Hawaii trip with his son to get back and figure out how to solve the crisis after the antenna-gate.

And second of all, the iPhone 4 design was not changed. They did change the antenna design slightly on 4S.

I don't know about A7 or 8MP camera but why would it not have retina? It was a total surprise the first one didn't have it. If the 2nd still doesn't, it will flop and flop huge. Just look how many people on MR are wanting, no, DEMANDING, it have retina. Apple knows it would be an epic fail if it released a mini without it. They may be having manufacturing constraints and it may come out with very limited supply but it will have it.

I think it had something with the resolution of the apps, Last year when they announced the mini it was said to have exact same resolution as iPad 2 so wouldn't a retina mini create more headache for developers as every app would have to be redesigned yet again? Just saying...
I love my iPad mini and I really hope the new has a retina, however iPad 1 and 2 didn't have retina...

No, because it'll be 326ppi - double the resolution of the current mini, with four pixels for every one. Just as the retina iPads are double the 1 and 2's resolution

For iPad mini

A6X processor
Retina
Gold, Space gray
Touch ID

The only thing I can't agree on is the chip. With their push for 64bit apps, it would make sense for htem to include the A7. I know they said 32 and 64bit apps can run in tandem but that would be Apple compromising.

I'm hoping you're wrong :D

I understand you. The reason I give some credit to this rumor is that they speak about the A7, which already has quad-core graphics, and not an imaginary A7X, which presumably would add quad-core graphics to an A7 chip.

Maybe Apple doesn't want performance differentiation between iPad and iPad mini? Maybe their understanding is, that the biggest chunk of the market is with fast small tablets? I hope so. I for one would rather pay a little more.

Now that you know it exists, would you buy another iDevice without 64-bit?

Lol, not for me!
I'm briefly using a mini b/c my full size iPad was stolen. Kiddo is getting this mini...
I WOULD get my lovey gf a Retina mini even if not 64 bit though....

...
In many tests the A6X was more than twice as fast as the A6 (it also pushes 76 GFLOPS compared to the A6s 26 GFLOPS). And Apple is marketing the A7 as twice as fast as the A6. Thery would also want to differentiate their products.
...

Hmmmmm, just imagine the A7X versus the A7 then :apple:

I don't see that they care as much as 3 years ago!

They apparently don't have the ressources and prefere focusing on everything else then Macs.

I can understand it from a business point of view, nevertheless I don't like it and I decided to buy a MS operating laptop, since the current rMBP is not up to date and I was not willing to pay the apple premium for this device. At least for the moment, I am not happy with Apple.
Waaa well stick with msft then boo hooo....and it still doesnt run as smoothly as an rMBP even with the extra hardware.

Waaa well stick with msft then boo hooo....and it still doesnt run as smoothly as an rMBP even with the extra hardware.

And, again, this is another example of what I posted about in another thread.

If you don't like something Apple does, you are told to eff off and go buy something else. If you post that, in fact that was exactly what you did, then
"Waaa well stick with msft then boo hooo...."

So, on Macrumors, if you don't agree with absolutely every decision Apple makes, shut the hell up and don't say a word...... you stinking troll.

I have an iPad 3 and an iPhone 5. Somehow got stuck with the bast*** child Apple products! They both simply ceased to exist!
Seriously. Exact same situation here. The iPad 3 went away with nary a whimper. At least my black iPhone 5 is unique in its color scheme -- the best one Apple has used so far. I'm going to be really sad if there isn't a black on black option for the iPad 5.

Apple doesn't care about the computer anymore. Look at how long they let the Mac Pro languish without any significant updates. That's why they removed "Computer" from the company name and are now Apple, Inc.

I would not say that don't care about the computer anymore... Technology has evolved and products like the "iPad" have replaced computers in a way. But computers are still needed. I mean, look a the new iMac design, the MacBook air, The Retina MBP, etc... Yeah, it took them a while to update the pro, but lets be real here (from a business stand point), that was probably their least bought product, so why rush that out every year?

That being said, I really want a iMac!

iPhone and iPad events are on the exact same week and day of the previous year. Unless you think MS has planned its events a year ago, Apple somehow got a hold of these plans and planned to upstage MS a year ago, your assertion makes no sense.

I agree. I think Microsoft did the same math we all did, and chose their date accordingly.

It is just good business sense to announce the next generation device before your competitors. Since Apple is the company to beat for market share, they are a target for everyone seeking to crowd into their space.

MS, Amazon, Samsung all tried to steal a march on Apple. More power to them. Innovation from competition will drive performance up and prices down (or at least remaining the same), which is good for us consumers.

I don't understand the MS and Samsung hate. If you don't like their products, don't buy them, but at least rejoice in the fact that their efforts are making Apple work harder to stay ahead, making the products you do buy better.

I only wish that MS had announced an 8" version of the surface pro.

First, Apple strangely delayed the iPhone 5s/5c sales numbers to match the day of the Microsoft Surface 2 keynote (released the numbers 2 hours before it). ....

So what's your point? That is not evil, that is just good business sense. The same good business sense that every corporation uses in approaching their competition.

If you want evil, then start talking about Apple's tax evasion strategy. The "Double Irish with a Dutch Sandwich" might be legal, but not ethical or moral. If we didn't have congressmen that were too busy lining their pockets to care about the good of the country, they would have fixed those tax laws that are making such strategies possible. But all the big corporations are rewarding their pet congressman to keep these loopholes wide open so they can drive truckloads of cash through them.

You're right, it seems that the earlier release of the 5c made me think the sales numbers were delayed.

The iPad event thing is not so clear... but, as I sais in another post, I do not intent to create a conspiranoic theory about this, I just thought it was interesting and that it could be possible there was a plan behind it. It is not like this kind of things never happend before.

But after what you said, maybe the real conspiranoic theory should be that there are saboteurs infiltrated in MS to make sure they select the worst possible dates for important events, hahaha :D First suspect is Steve Ballmers'd butler. :p

Thank you for the clarification. Now I am upset that I purchased a new MacBook Pro 2 days ago. Not even been shipped to me yet, but on the way. Couldn't beat the deal though....got a $2499 laptop for $1750 new sealed in the box on eBay. Non-Retina 15" 2.6GHz 8GB RAM 256GB SSD *SEALED*

So I don't know how upset I am now that I jumped and did not wait. I am sure this thing will be fine for me though. Sold my 17" because I decided it was too bulky for me.

You should not be upset. You have a non-retina 2.6, so you get the nVidia GT650M discrete GPU - which will drive the non-retina display with ease. You can also upgrade the RAM and the SSD if you need to; for ~$700, you can go 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD (Samsung 840 EVO). Now that you've pulled the trigger, I would upgrade that machine and wait until Broadwell - which should have much improved processing power for the same battery life as Haswell. As icing on the cake, you can also pull the 1TB SSD before you sell the non-retina and put it in an external thunderbolt case...
