I think Apple will do three things:

1. Introduce non-retina mini with A6 starting at $299.

2. Introduce retina mini with A7X starting at $399.

3. Introduce iPad 5 with Touch ID and A7X for $499.

The retina iPad mini will not replace the current mini. I learnt my lesson with the 5C, Apple does NOT do cheap.

You gotta great point... That will keep their price margin at a great state with your three points. So, Apple will discontinue the last generation iPad Mini and iPad 2. Cause I know they will do a price increase on a retina iPad Mini... It's still going to sell like hot cakes.

How about fix the iPad iOS 7 software

It's garbage

Steve never would of released it

how on earth woudl you know? youve never even been in the same room as the man, let alone know what hed do. he released Ping, Final Cut Pro X, ipod socks, etc...

so sick of that dumb phrase brought out by people who have no idea.

there is no logic in that..
they will never make a non retina mini, there is already the original mini which is non retina and 9/10 wished it was retina.

here's what they will do : release the new mini with retina and A6 at similar price of current mini (current mini is already premium price in it's class, they cannot make it more expensive),reduce the price of original mini until stocks last (will probably take another year until 3Rd gen mini becomes available).
You think Apple will reduce the price of a product that is already being sold with low margins by their standards?

I repeat: Apple does not do cheap!

So late in October, wonder if it had to do with the rumored ipad mini retina shortage?

Could this really mean a retina mini?

My question is how Apple can differentiate the "Regular" from the Mini if the specs are essentially the same. Similar to 5S and 5C - there needs to be incentive(s) for people to pay considerably more for the "Regular".

I know what you're saying, but I really hope they don't think to create arbitrary differentiations just for the sake of needing to have SKU levels. If they can pull of thin, retina, and battery life, people will pay for it. Value shoppers can buy the 1st gen mini.

I just hope they don't overthink the SKU levels and pander to lowest denominator purchasing urges. Just make good products and slap a fair price on it. It will never be perfect storybook product line.

I think the 5C experiment is good to bring up. They aren't selling as briskly as the 5S. I don't think Apple users are super motivated by a nominal price difference and devices that are designed to telegraph their SKU level. We typically save up to buy the best, or buy refurbs/prev gen/used. A hobbled new model doesn't jive well with that model.

If they are releasing Mac Pros at this event, is it likely that the Thunderbolt display will get an update as well? I know there was some talk about 4K displays but I was hoping for an update to the original model as well. I'd love to see the ATD with the same panel as the iMacs along with USB3.

iOS7 is gorgeous. Those people who say otherwise have bad tastes or just jealous!

Well, they silently released the new Haswell iMacs on the Tuesday after the new iPhones went on sale. If the updated Macbook Pro's don't make it to the stage on the 22nd, I will bet they will do the silent update shortly after OSX Mavericks starts shipping and they will come with that OS.

The computer line takes a back seat. I am waiting for both the new Macbook Pro as well as waiting to replace my Gen 1 iPad (which I waited in line to get that first day they were available - 3.5 years ago now??).

I tend to agree with you regarding the updated MacBook Pro's.

Margins could have changed based on production bandwidth and part costs (though they could have gone up too).

As far as selling products, they could keep the old mini around like they did (and do) the 2. Especially with a price drop. Especially with institutional purchases.

Seems fragmented but they may want bragging rights for a lowest price model (they won't beat the real low end Android tabs but they want to get in the range so they can upsell).

Could be, but I think Apple wants to ditch the A5 asap.

We'll see.

Oh, and my guess is Apple would rather increase the margins than fixate them to lower the price. But that's just my guess.

No retina = no sale. No one cares if Apple put A7 64-bit chip in Mini or even fingerprint sensor without retina. All it needs is retina display and better camera for 120fps video. No reason to put A7 chip in a mini while A6 can do a perfect job.

What do you mean no one cares? Speak for yourself. :p In fact while Retina would be a nice addition I don't care if it's included or not.

Thank goodness, I really miss my mini that I returned to Target once I found out a new one was going to be released soon.

I beg to differ...even though Apple is selling millions of iPhones, iPads, and iPods....it's still a side project and not the main focus at Apple.

Apple is still a computer company, and they are still focused on innovating with the Macintosh and being the industry leaders in Personal Computing.

YEs - The iPhone is a SIDE PROJECT

and so is iOS for that matter. More like a pet project...a mobile OS...not their Main Deal which is Mac OS X

/endofstatement

Me getting an iPad 5 is dependent on whether we see an iOS 7 Jailbreak released.
until then looks like I'll be sticking with my trusty iPad 3.
