I gotta feeling they will... If there resolution 2048-by-1536, that none out in the industry have on a smaller tablet... I think they will mark it up.

2013 Nexus 7 actually marked up there tablet from last year model $200 to $230. And Nexus has a 1920-by-1200.

Yeah but that's a small price bump. Apple price bumps tend to go by $100 increments.:(

What are you smoking? 32GB and 64GB are already available for the iPad minis. Why would they take that away?

I meant to ship with 32gb as a base (you know like most android devices do). When you pay an extra $100 to upgrade to 32gb apple is making something like a $80-$90 profit on that. There is no reason they wont keep the base at 16gb so people keep coughing up that extra $100-$200 for something that basically costs them nothing.

Love my iPad mini but with all my other products being Retina, I really find the mini's screen an eye sore. For this reason, I'm in the market for a iPad mini 2 providing it has Retina. If we don't see that, I might be tempted by a full size iPad but I prefer the 7" screen.

The lot

  • Mavericks to be released at this event.

  • New iPads

  • New Mac Pro, either released or we'll be given a date with further info about the machine.
  • New MacBook Pros, possibly Airs.

Shaking my head at the gullible sheep in this thread now hoping for Touch ID in every Mac gadget. You know where this is heading right? If the NSA aren't collecting fingerprints at the present time, there's no telling when Apple will recieve a secret court order demanding Apple to start collecting and turning over all finger prints without the consent and knowledge of the users. Have you myopic people learned anything at all from the revelations these last months?

I think you forgot the [/sarcasm].

Nice, got rid of my iPad Mini 16gb today for £200 so pretty pleased...hope its worth the upgrade, went from iPad 3, to iPad mini but might go back to an iPad 5 form factor as long as its casing is thinner etc, cos' the extra screen space and retina is vital tbh.

If there's no retina mini it will be a dud event. I hope that's not the case.

I don't think they'll do anything specific for the MacBook Pro. Probably a silent refresh like the iMac. Never know with Apple though.

So, 22nd October, meaning the Friday after that week, November 1st, *sigh* I'm away that day, and no where near an Apple store.

PLEASE APPLE MAKE THEM AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER!

I don't know about A7 or 8MP camera but why would it not have retina? It was a total surprise the first one didn't have it. If the 2nd still doesn't, it will flop and flop huge. Just look how many people on MR are wanting, no, DEMANDING, it have retina. Apple knows it would be an epic fail if it released a mini without it. They may be having manufacturing constraints and it may come out with very limited supply but it will have it.

I agree with you - on paper the Mini NEEDS to have Retina. All the new tablets now have resolutions higher than 300ppi.

My question is how Apple can differentiate the "Regular" from the Mini if the specs are essentially the same. Similar to 5S and 5C - there needs to be incentive(s) for people to pay considerably more for the "Regular".

Assuming Retina is indeed standard and improvement on camera isn't as big a deal on tablets as on phone. Then I'm guessing A7 will only be on Regular and A6 will still run the mini. There may be other minor software differences that enhance the appeal of "Regular".

Mark my words... iPad mini will not have everything that iPad has. Maybe some but not all. Retina? 64 bit A7 processor? 8MP camera? I'd say only chip but definitely not Retina or 8MP camera. Retina is one of the flagship features for the top of the range iPads. It's what differentiates between the adults and the kids ;)

iPad Mini will be getting a retina screen... It's a must on Apple's part. Especially... since the Nexus 2013 received an improved screen.

64 bit A7? No... But I do believe they will get a A6X to improve battery life along with that retina screen. And the TouchID is up in the air, I wouldn't be surprise if they leave it out... Yet it wouldn't shock me if they add it. But You are right.. they will rather save all the flagship features for the top range iPads. The 5th Generation will get all the bells and whistle... My money will be on that..

Hot dog - now I have a valid reason to get a couple of new iPads. I need to have the new form factor in order to design our company's wood wraps. And as much as we have the mini figured out, I'm sure the new retina screen will force me to get a new one...just in case.

After holding the mini, as it is now, it's hard to comfortably hold the full sized iPad. The tapered back just doesn't do anything positive. It feels like a holdover to the iPhone 3G as there is no way it was made that way to be easy to hold. The way our hands work, a better design would have the edges of the iPad thicker and taper down in thickness toward the middle on the back, but I know that is neither an easy design to create nor a pleasing one to look at.

I just don't understand why people are going ******* over Haswell processors -- the only thing they offer is slightly better energy efficiency on portables. The performance increase is negligible, heck their Ivy Bridge counterparts even bested the Haswells on over 70% of the benchmarks. For the most part the Ivy Bridge is a faster processor than the Haswell. It is nothing to phone home about....not in the slightest.

The difference is the size. I have the full sized iPad but want something just a bit smaller but not with inferior specs. For me, it's like the MBP 13" or 15". It should have the same specs available in each, but for some people the smaller screen makes more sense for however they intend to use it.

I think Apple will do three things:

1. Introduce non-retina mini with A6 starting at $299.

2. Introduce retina mini with A7X starting at $399.

3. Introduce iPad 5 with Touch ID and A7X for $499.

The retina iPad mini will not replace the current mini. I learnt my lesson with the 5C, Apple does NOT do cheap.

Nothing wrong with paranoia, but it should be based on reality.

What's the NSA going to do with your fingerprints?

What makes you think a chip like that, designed specifically to protect the privacy of the user, would even be capable of reporting a description of your fingerprints to anyone?

There are no laws that would allow a court order like the one you stated. So there would be no obligation for Apple to do what you say. And since such reporting doesn't happen by itself but has to be implemented by some engineers, there is no way such a thing could stay secret.
