The i7 was only an example for the lottery. before i said about mini vs quad core gaming. as for ddr2 vs ddr 3
https://forums.macrumors.com/archive/index.php/t-654277.html

Here is an i7 config for you then

The same mac mini from before

# 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
# 4GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB
# 320GB Serial ATA Drive
# SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)

+ add the cost of 3 year apple care divide by 3 ( pc comes with 1 year collect and return )

= around £900

vs "Titan Goliath" Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz @ 3.40GHz Quad Core DDR3 System from overclockers uk = £1000

- Intel Core i7 920 2.66Ghz Overclocked to 3.40GHz! (Nehalem) (Socket LGA1366)
- ati 4850
- Gigabyte EX58-UD3R Intel X58 (Socket 1366) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard
- OCZ 6GB DDR3 PC3-10666C9 Gold Low-Voltage Triple Channel Kit
- Akasa AK-967 Nero Direct Contact Heatpipe CPU Cooler
- ATI & Nvidia Graphics Card Options
- Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA-II 32MB Cache
- LG GH22NS40 22x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter (Black) - OEM
- Corsair TX 650W ATX2.2 SLI Compliant PSU
- Arctic Silver 5 Heatsink compound professionally hand installed by our technicians
- 1yr Onsite Collect & Return Warranty (Can collect from any address (UK Mainland ONLY) and same day collection possible if requested before 11am)

You need to take off AppleCare entirely, as all Macs come with a 1 year warranty on parts standard.

Again, now that we have somewhat comparable computers - though yours is still 15% more expensive and doesn't mention other things like BT or a wireless card - I'd go with the Mini.

Is there any reason you can't respect that you and I might value different things in the computers we buy?

for a price of a base mini (+ monitor) (+ price of bootcamp + windows license to play games and run windows only software), you can easily get a quad core gaming machine. I know which one I would choose.

So do I. I would choose the mac.

A few reasons - OSX, garageband, imovie and would pay £60 for iWork.

The OS eally does make that much of a difference.

And if i wanted to play games - i would buy a games machine.

"Hi, I'm a Megan."

Awesome. It's about time we took aim at those blasted Microsoft ads.

We? Are you serious? You own one or more products from Apple. You are not on some kind of team. You are not 'fighting the good fight' by giving Apple money. You own a consumer product, thats it. Businesses run ad campaigns in an attempt to make money. Businesses are, generally speaking, neutral.

Think Different ... seriously.

That's why there are videos of people ranting over the build quality of their macs, right?

Nothing is perfect, but i still say mac QA is better

It has to be. The reputation of apple rests on its weakest component.

A single cheap component can ruin an entire product line so its in apples interests to make sure problems are rectified.

Same with software.

If MS had better QA than apple - then why has vista been so problematical?

You never know, he might be a stockholder.

You know - i disagree.

The imac i bought 2 year ago paid for the R&D for the iPhone in my pocket.

I think of it as investing in the toys of my future. :D

(I do own one apple share too ;))

iPods, iphones, this new tablet thing - products that have a certain positive effect on the market by inspiring better competition.

Its all evolution, innit?

its like jobs said to that pepsi exec - you want to sell sugar water all your life - or do you want to change the world. :D

So I take it all of the people arguing against Microsoft dont use Windows via Bootcamp???

I mean, if you did, that would be a touch hypocritical dont you think?

Apple raised the white flag by allowing Windows on their machines... its admitting their OS doesnt do everything people want.

nope.

Neooffice does the job of word etc.

Sadly I need a pc because i use website content management software that has to run on IE6.

They have been told that we won't be upgrading their software if it is not compatible with other browsers.

This is just nonsense trolling, really .....

As far as I'm concerned, the Mac Mini was *never* a great "value" as an all-purpose computer, much LESS a "gaming system"! Where does it really shine? For special tasks, like a media center box or an in-car computer project! Where ELSE might it make sense? How about a situation where you need something as small as possible, still want OS X as your operating system, and you don't CARE about graphics-intensive tasks? (Wouldn't be half bad for people I know doing accounting work in a small business or home office, for example. It'll run Quickbooks just fine, as well as Office and whatever other office-related stuff you might need. No big virus/spyware concerns that way, etc.)

I know if I was putting together a machine to play streaming video and movies, music, etc. to my plasma TV, I sure wouldn't want a big, noisy, heat-generating, power-drawing PC for it. I could use Plex or Boxee on a Mac Mini and have FAR superior solution.

That pc came with a monitor. for another example look below.

here is what i quickly did. i am sure you can find better, which i'll look into

mini - £849
# 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
# 4GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB
# 320GB Serial ATA Drive
# SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
- NO APPLE CAR

"Titan Thor OC" Intel Core 2 Quad Core Q8400 2.66GHz @ 3.20GHz DDR2 System from overclockers uk £875
- XP Pro (would be even cheaper with vista)
- Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 LGA775 'Yorkfield' 2.66GHz Overclocked to 3.20GHz!
- ati 4870
- Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3P Intel P45 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
- Kingston HyperX 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 8500C5 1066MHz Dual Channel
- LG GH22NS30 22x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter (Black)
- Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM
- Titan TTC-NK85TZ Fenrir CPU Cooler
- OCZ ModXStream Pro 700w Silent SLI Ready ATX2 Modular Power Supply
- Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound professionally hand installed by our technicians
- 1yr Onsite Collect & Return Warranty

Apple raised the white flag by allowing Windows on their machines... its admitting their OS doesnt do everything people want.

i dont need windows anymore and have only used windows once.
Because the software, the video editing with iMovie for example is far supperior than any other companies (the many software manufacturers ) on Windows.

White flag? Like say extending warranties 3 years on their 360's or pretty much abandonding Vista once win 7 comes out? At least you have an easier way of choosing either or on Apple, there is no bootcamp for PC.

BMW you are ignoring my questions....

I dont need bootcamp... lol thats the point :) If everything is so superior on the Mac, why is there bootcamp?? The answer HAS to be that the Mac OS doesnt offer everything (BLUUUUU RAAAAY) that people want to do.

An OS is only as good as the software and applications that run on it... Otherwise its useless.

Obviously OSX doesn't have everything every user could need. Otherwise there would be no need for Windows, Linux, etc to exist.

One could say the same thing about Windows systems if you refer to Final Cut, Logic or the Apogee Duet/Ensemble.

It's not hypocritical in the least - some people, like me, need to have Windows in order to test site layouts. While I don't ever EVER voluntarily use Windows for any task whatsoever, it still isn't hypocritical to have it installed and use it occasionally. Using Windows occasionally actually would be less hypocritical since it would give you a more educated stance in the argument.

eventually blu ray will be on macs, just Apple (read Jobs) doesnt want a competition to Apple TV and all and their preference to straming SD and HD video and movies.

I dont think BluRay matters because of being able to store on large external hdd's plus not a lot of people pirate BR movies (yet!)

According to the market, over 90% of the customers in the market have chosen PC over Mac....

My comment was in reference to QA an build quality, neither of which have anything to do with market share. Consumer reports has Apple topping the list on customer satisfaction in every laptop catagory they qualify to be judged in.

Market share does not equal quality of product.

ilovemicrosoftfanboyz...one last thing

Creator 2009 didnt work on Windows XP and i was the one thing i tried loading on Windows 7 beta and it had teh same problem. So that is what you must have meant by software working:p

Funny, how in 3 years of owning my macbook I saw that screen only 2 times. Wonder what's the PC ratio.

funny on 3 years of my PC I've had 0 crashes...

...before everyone jumps on me for being a troll...it's running linux...I just felt the need to post this because this whole "PC" thing is retarded in my opinion just say windows!

Many of those customers didn't have a choice.
Ofcourse they do. They go to a store, there is a mac and there is a PC and majority choose PC the same way majority choose iPod over Zune or other players. They can also choose Linux if they want to. People have the choice otherwise all PC makers would be in trouble and Microsoft is constantly watched by anti-trust regulations as well so they dont say fanboy crap like that. It is the same for those folks who bought tracks from your beloved iTunes store (protected AAC) and they have no choice but to get an iPod to play them. I dont see you complaining there.... People have the choice, it just happens that you dont like the choice they are making

Ofcourse it does. iPod has the largest market share because it is the best player out there despite the premium
All you do is quote me a survey that has few thousands people in it. My evidence is a marketshare that contains billions in it and they have overwhelmingly chose PC over Mac. I know it hurts your Apple religion, but it is the truth and it will stay there for future.
