People are buying computers everyday and more people buy PCs over Macs.
True. I never said otherwise.

It is a fact and no matter how hard you try to spin it and make it seem like some other evil forces are trying to prevent justice being done and Apple rescuing the humanity, more people choose PCs and simple as that.
Evil forces? Justice? And I'm spinning?. I just stated that a significant factor in Windows achieving 90% market share was that businesses were supplying their employees with Windows computers and, for those people, they didn't really have a choice in OS.

People have the choice. Macs, PCs, Linux and it's up to them what to buy.
They do, when buying for themselves. They don't when the new computer sitting on their desk at work comes with an OS that they had no decision in.

More people choose PCs. Simple as that.
For themselves, agreed.

You just happen to not like they choice they are making but it aint changing the facts....
Strawman alert!

I don't see how my comment was "like a 2 year old"

Nah - "O rly?" and ALL THOSE CAPS and repeated 000000000000000000000000000000000000's must put it at 12 at least. ;)

P.S. - just re-read you use Linux. Please take my comments in good humour. There is always space in my philosophy for a third way. Will scrub my "beige box o'disappointments" one day and give linux a go, just having too much fun with garageband to really feel like devoting the time to the task in hand.

P.P.S. @dejo :D

I never cease to be amused when people trot out market share to show that Apple is a failure or needs to release a cheaper product.

Apple's stock price is astronomical compared to its competitors and they are sitting on a cash reserve that most other tech companies would give their eye teeth for. Despite the recession, Apple still gained market share.

Did you know Apple could buy Dell for cash twice? DELL market caps = $21bn, total cash = $9bn, total debt = $2bn, gives an enterprise value of $14bn. That's about half of Apple's cash.

Seriously guy, you totally have to accept the fact that all these PC vs Mac arguments are just a complete waste of time. In the end, it all boils down to a simple matter of preference. You can simplify this and end with a BMW vs Mercedes-Benz argument.

1. Macs are PCs as well. Yes, they are.
2. Macs are a premium product, but, Dell has its own premium line, Sony VAIO computers are generally more expensive, and some models are also considered premium products. Whether these products are overpriced DEPENDS entirely on the CUSTOMER. It's a matter of personal opinion.
3. If you want to talk about quality, then there is no point arguing that generally speaking Apple computers are of much quality than Dell or HP. But still, it is not like if your HP will break after a year, unless you are unlucky, and some people are. Apple also has quality issues, especially with iPods.
4. Whether you like it or not, for the average computer user, there are virtually no advantages in chosing OSX over Windows or the other way around. They offer the same basic functionality. When it comes to specific uses, each side has its advantages and disadvantages, such as specific software (Final Cut or 3DS Max) or just mere gaming.
5. Apple, as a company, is not perfect in any way. They too embrace the same ******** policies and anti-competitive behaviors of other corporations like Microsoft and Intel. So please stop acting like if Apple was the most customer oriented company out there. It isn't.
6. I absolutely hate how some people literally praise Steve Jobs as the absolute savior of the universe. He might be a great CEO, but hell, guess who is also a genius, and my opinion a bigger one: yes, your arch-enemy Bill Gates. Actually, just look around, Steve Jobs have the reputation of being a douche.
7. I really hate how arguments like "Using Windows is a vector for viruses" or "Windows crashes all the time" are acknowledged and accepted by this community. I went through the topic about HFS+ support for Windows in bootcamp, and after reading how some people were against it because they were afraid of getting a virus that could compromise their security, I didn't know whether I laugh or cry. I raged when I saw how someone who gave a completely neutral opinion was called a troll several times.

The only time I remember getting a BSOD was when my GPU was failing due to overclocking, a few years ago. I saw a few times in my sisters notebook due to some driver incompatibility, that was ultimately fixed by a driver update. I've seen kernel panics in Linux, I've seen Mac computers crash. Yes, Linux and OS X do crash. The people who seem to be afraid of Windows because of BSODs are either traumatized by an unlucky experience, or just had too much of the Apple kool-aid. Also, I've only had issues with viruses once, yes, just once, even though I'm a "power" software downloader. And honestly, you don't really need such a big effort to avoid viruses. Get a free AV, don't go to dangerous sites, don't open files from strangers. Windows won't get infected out of nowhere. You have to follow the same guidelines in any other OS. To everyone that says that Windows is full of holes, prove it for Windows Vista and Windows 7. And please, stop shoving up the fact that OS X is Unix-based I have news for you. Although the number is certainly higher for Windows, exploits do exist for every operating system.

Just stop, you are not immediately cooler for building your own water-cooled gaming rig, and you are not better than anyone nor smarter for having an Apple product.

Both sides of this ad-war are ****ing ridiculous, but guess who began with these silly ads in the first place.

Its funny - i ever had a religion before i bought a mac.

I was a post-pagan neo jedi-buddhist, which was great. All karma and wild parties.

But now - i do actually have a faith in a better future through intelligent design.

The imac experience was great, but when i picked up my iPhone i really felt as if the future tv had been promising me was actually getting here.

gadgets that delighted more often than they infuriated.

'Things that work' instead of 'technology'

toys where intuition was more useful than a fat manual

Happy to pay for mac stuff - because i know after ipod and iphone - there will be another step forward. iPad maybe?

I am happy to pay for innovation, which is why I am willing MS to succeed.

The better the competition - the harder apple will have to work to wow us.

And evolution will accelerate.

:D

I got to 35 and just had enough with 'dll hell' and went mac to spend more time creating than fettling poor codeing.

What lies ahead for me in the land of Linux?

I would love getting the third way into my skill set - but just doubt my techie mettle - will I enjoy the view from the mountain, or do I need to enjoy the climb to get the most from the exercise?

if you ever need any help in linux feel free to pm me...unless you choose ubuntu...then I will not respond :D (kidding by the way)

I chose the 120GB model because Microsoft doesn't have anything remotely close to the iPod Touch. Nor does anyone else, for that matter. Hence price comparisons to the Touch are worthless.

And FYI, the Nanos are comparably priced with the Zune equivalent, so the argument still fails.

As for fans, hardcore Microsoft users are just as vociferous as Sony or Apple fans. Take a look at any gaming forum to see the epic PS3 vs. 360 battles (while Nintendo quietly schools them both, heh). Or just browse this forum and witness the rabid nonsense being spewed by the Redmond Horde right here on MacRumors. I assume you probably have a 360, hence your dismissal of Sony fanboys. That's always the easy argument, isn't it? Denigrate those of opposing opinion as slobbering cultists.

Why do you keep bringing up Zune? There are other MP3 players in the market from other companies. Apple still sells the most because they have the best. It was the same scenario during iPod/iPod-Mini days; it is still the case and they deserve it. Their product is superior; they sell the most

As for fans, the closest that Microsoft has to fans is the Xbox gamers and those are far and few compare to Apple and Sony. Microsoft doesnt have a culture nor the product to attract fans and get people worked up on it. Try to find a forum dedicated to the Microsoft the company and its fans. There are Xbox forums and Paul Thurrot's website; but that's it. Try the same for Sony and Apple and see what I mean. If there is an idiot Microsoft fan who feels attached to his Xbox or Zune, then he must be ridiculed as well

As for consoles, I'm not in console gaming. As for Sony and Apple, I still use a lot of their products and I'm a long time real fan; not the new generation of arrogant shiny loving fanboys. For me, Sony is defined by their long gone audiophile products and Minidisc rather than PS3; and to me what represents Apple the best (at least the good days) is the PowerMac G4 (The world's best desktop at the time) not iPod or iPhone

They do, when buying for themselves. They don't when the new computer sitting on their desk at work comes with an OS that they had no decision in
They dont care about the OS and buy PCs so maybe this should tell you that they are happy with they are getting despite the whole "all the PCs are infected" "BSOD" "Where is iLife" "Windows is for idiots" arguments. The number is big for computers sold everyday that are PC so more people are choosing PCs over Macs

For themselves, agreed.
There you go. Also companies choose PCs as well. But for people, majority choose PCs over Macs for their personal computer

Strawman alert!
It is not

always second place

It's a good, expensive and long-lasting campaign. Apple have to take on all pc makers (acer, hp, lenovo, dell) at once so saying ALL pc's behave a certain way makes Apple attractive to the simple or less tech-savvy consumer (which is not a diss, I know Apple actively pursue and nurture this segment).

My only complaint is that Apple is always second place in these commercials as they CONSTANTLY mention pcs. Instead of just saying what the merits of the mac are they keep talking about pcs and showing that pcs can make movies, dvds, organize photos, etc. for a fraction of the cost.

It's as if Coke would keep mentioning Pepsi in every Coke commercial. Pepsi (who are second place) keep mentioning Coke and it makes me think of Coke every time I see a Pepsi commercial. Apple, who make really good computers, should sell their product instead of just running down the competition.

Plus the actor who plays the mac is total bum tickler.

Seems the same as the previous ads to me.

Not like the Apple ads...

Viruses / crashing

for 3 years now!

At least the Microsoft ads deal with facts... ie accurate cash differences. The Apple ads rely on BS from years ago, Vista DOES NOT crash everyday...

Apple and their fanboys are still stuck in Windows 98 days of crashes and BSOD....

You need to read up on accurate comparisons of the laptop models in question before you start saying the M$ ads are 'facts.'

That ad proves that they are only buying what they're told to and that no one is actually telling them the truth. A lot of salesmen tell uninformed customers whatever they need to in order to sell them something. It's unreal how many people buy without any product knowledge. Notice they only get the PC. BB always pushes some kind of service on PC customers because they need it. Hell, they told some guy in the Mac area once that they'd set up Time Machine for him for $40. WTF? I laughed.
