And if Apple does not include HDMI and mDP in the new machine, I'll be "forced" by my own laziness and the many HDMI & mDP Beamers in our office to buy such an old 2015 MBP (to replace my ancient 2012 retina13).
I'm SO ready so spend some serious $$$$$$$, but Apple and the law of progress probably prevent it...
Oh well, such is life...
So a USB-C to HDMI cable is out of the question?

I'm guessing there will be USB-C, significantly faster SSD, the latest spec BT & WiFi, TB 3, an improved display with DCI-P3 color gamut, MBP-class Skylake CPU, Touch-ID, the OLED strip, another hour on battery life, perhaps better built-in sound. KL CPUs next year when available in quantity from Intel.

This is a really likely prediction!

What sort of SSD speeds are you thinking? Any talk of the Intel 3D Xpoint SSDs?

I know exactly whats gonna happen come later we are all hyped and waiting then after keynote the miserable posts will come out like we expected much more lol, apple needs a massive push after Microsoft yesterday

Genuinely curious, what kind of increased functionality would you like to see in a laptop?

Indeed, since most Mac users don't want touchscreens we pretty much hit a roof of the features a conventional laptop can have.

No they don't.

They need to focus on what they do best and just let MS do their thing.

Agree. Can't see Apple going back to colorful plastic laptops from years past, then ones that look like an oversized makeup compact for Barbi.

I'll reserve judgement (not), but I can't help but wonder (here it comes), if all they're releasing is a MacBook Pro with 4 USB-Cs, no SD slot, no Mag-Safe, only slightly faster processor, slightly better screen, with this new oled bar.. why did it take so dang long? I mean, really. Not to mention this "update" seems way out of touch from what any "pro" consumer would want in a laptop.

Surface Studio made my head explode yesterday. Meanwhile, Apple's over here with a laptop and desktop product line that makes me reminisce over the last 8 years. Ouch.

This had better be extremely good.

A post-event musical guest will not wash the pain away, either. It doesn't have to be this way.
Talk about Debbie Downer. So now Skylake is only "slightly faster"? All hose people complaining about Apple selling Broadwell and Haswell MBPs are just complaining over nothing?

to be fair, after yesterday Microsoft event, this is gonna be a flop, typical apple now, slightly faster cpu and graphics new ports and new bar thats it, Microsoft has stepped the game up and changed the tech world and apple is in trouble after today, iOS 10 is a flop and still not fixed iPhone 7 isn't huge upgrade, apple need to sort it out I'm a huge apple fan but lately at the keynotes its disappointing, unless today is magical apple will no longer be best tech company, I have to give my hands up to Microsoft from there keynote yesterday and every apple fan feels the same

Respectfully disagree, the iPhone 7 is a great device, from someone who went from a 6 Plus to a 7 Plus, i love my iPhone 7, the dual lens camera is just brilliant and the new Bokeh effect is just great! The redesign didn't happen this year, probably because they are planning a big design change next year, so i can see why some people are a little upset, personally it doesn't bother me. IOS 10 has some nice features.

oday's event will probably reveal new Mac's and as we have seen most of the features for the MacBook Pro's i think that is what we are going to see, it's just a matter of how Apple will be implementing the OLED Touch bar, we will find out very soon. But overall i still fell that Apple creates the better devices, i personally moved away from Windows when i got my first Mac, which was the MacBook Pro 2011 that I'm still using, it's been a great laptop and i've loved it far more than any frustrating Windows machine i ever used in the past.

Obviously this is just my opinion and other people will have different ones :)

32GB Ram, a must.
Running 3 VMS :)

Today Apple will announce adding the Parallel port back to the MacBooks due to its customer base not wanting to move to newer better technology and preferring to live in the past. We must all use USB-A forever and ever. Down with progress.

I'm just a peon at work, mostly I'm left alone but with my back to the opening of my cubicle, its impossible to watch something and not be noticed

My previous job was like that, my computer was deliberately angled in line with the doorway. Neat you have the power to telecommute though. My supervisor is finally returning from medical leave today, but if I don't see the event live I'll catch up on my lunch hour, I am glad she's back.

This will be the first time I won't be watching it. I could, I just don't want to. It has become too formulaic. Jobs knew how to play the game. Cook has a checklist for the game.
There's no fun in it. Don't get me wrong, I think Cook's good, he's just no inventor, he's a number cruncher.

Not long until the OLED bar + Touch-ID is just a useless gimmick compared to the "mind-blowing innovation from microsoft".

Are you referring to the niche machine starting at $3000 for an i5 introduced yesterday? It's not going to sell in significant quantities.

Professionals don't have time to lose with unreliable hardware; the disaster of the Surface Book should be a reminder that Microsoft is still very much Microsoft.

It's really interesting that you call it unreliable when there's nothing that points to it. No true review of the product, other than a few quick hands-on experiences. Yet, you call it a failure. Is it because of the Microsoft logo?
Yes, it's a niche machine. It's the first release of a new line of products, and possibly a new category (or at least sub-category). It's the first high end hardware by a company that was ridiculed just two days prior. That machine is not made to sell in significant quantities because that machine aims at the Mac Pro professionals first, and those between the iMac-Mac Pro later. It's niche for now, but be sure that they will release different sizes, different specs etc. once they figure out assembly problems. They would be stupid in doing otherwise.
You see, the problem for Apple is not the product itself. It's the fact that Microsoft announced to the world that it's back in the game, and it's serious this time. It shows to the world that Microsoft now dares, and it does not shy away from failures (for God's sake... Nadella admitted how much Windows Phone suck!). It shows that they have a deep, clear vision. That is: the opposite of Apple.

As for the product itself, I can't say. Yesterday my sister in Europe saw the videos and spoke to me on the phone for about an hour. She and her husband are professional artists, and they also teach at an arts academy. They are deeply excited about it; she told me that her colleagues see that machine as the perfect answer to all their prayers since the iPad was first released. It's what they have been waiting for. I don't know if it solves all their problems (I can barely draw a stick figure...), and I don't know the arts and entertainment industry. However, I can't fail to notice that the Surface Studio generated the buzz that used to be generated by Apple Computer Inc.

You may see faults in the product, I see a new push within the industry.

Hooked into apple and now eerything i have in home and even in office is apple. But I finally want to upgrade my MBP to get a better display and reduce the weight.

yes I moved from 6s plus and I do like the 7 but that wow factor isn't there, apple just seems to improve things not give that wow factor anymore, I love apple and have everything but I also think they need to switch it up like when I watched the iOS 10 keynote there isn't really much thats crazy diff, they need to add new stuff that will give apple the wow factor again, I'm worried today its just gonna be speed bumps etcccc. Microsoft changed history yesterday with there tech and I pray apple will do something good today :)

And the guy that setup an enormous system where 800K+ iPhones can be manufactured (with a vendor management system feeding an equally huge number of components to manufacturing), tested, and delivered to customers. Every day.

Yea, the same here i'm looking to upgrade my ageing MacBook Pro, but i'm waiting to see what they announce later today, if they also announce new 13" MacBook, i may be very tempted to go with that instead of the new MacBook Pro, but i will see what's announced later :)

I do fell like people complain about the price of Mac's, and while it seems justified, when you look into it Mac's are great value for money. For example i use to use Windows machines, they suffered from a lot of crashes, required maintenance and were just a "machine" where as my MacBook Pro 2011, has lasted 5 years and is still working! it hasn't stopped working on me, the OS is just a joy to use and I've had no problems with it since i've owned it, so overall in the long run i think Mac's are worth the price.
