I think the following just about says it all, only 12% of revenues came from Macs. However, what Tim doesn't seem to realize is the Mac users are the core group which drive the other categories. For instance, the only reason I bought an iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPhone 6, iPhone 7 Plus, iPad 2, iPad Air 2, iPad Mini 4, Apple TV 3rd Gen, Apple TV 4th Gen, and Apple Watch Series 2 was because I'm heavily invested in Macs because MacOS is the only viable Unix desktop.

Same. I only continue to buy Apple products since I've already got a good "base." From my iPod Nano to my watch to my iPhone to iPad to MBP to iMac.

Only 12%.

Rubbing my hands together for the glut of Retina MacBook Pros under AppleCare showing up on EBay.

Right now a brand new in box 15" Mid 2015 i7 2.5GHZ Quad Core with 16GB Ram and 256 Flash is listed for "buy it now" at $1599, so if I find a good auction I could make out really really well.

2 1/2 years ago I picked up a 13" Mid 2012 for $580 and put in an SSD and 16GB Ram.

I'll sell that for $500 today and add $900 or less and get a nice upgrade.

Unless what they announce today blows my mind, that's my plan.

Cool story bro but this thread is for the new MacBook Pro's, not the old ones.

Come on Apple and take my money!

Are you referring to the niche machine starting at $3000 for an i5 introduced yesterday? It's not going to sell in significant quantities.

Exactly.

Also... there are 1.5 billion computers on Earth right now... and hardly any of them let you draw on the screen.

"Niche" is a great way to describe it. Surface Studio will appeal to a very small, perhaps unmeasurable, percentage of the buying public.

It reminds me of those previous Surface commercials saying "a Mac can't do that"

Guess what... MOST computers can't do that. So I gotta wonder how important the features like drawing on the screen really are.

Microsoft makes it sound like a majority of the population are comic book artists.

Hint... they're not :D

I have been considered an "apple fanboy" since 1990. For the first time in my life I am actually very excited about a product sold by Microsoft! If all that apple has to offer on a Mac is a "touch bar", my money is going to MS. Here is to a surprise iMac with a touch screen. Something apple should have already produced.

The stuff Microsoft showed this week, especially the Surface Studio and VR are exactly the sort of products Apple should be showing. Instead there'll be a reheated underpowered Macbook with a pointless little screen where keys should be.

MS are absolutely blowing Apple out of the water in the pro market now. It's comically one sided.
OK but they'll keep us happy with AirPods Socks...

And the guy that setup an enormous system where 800K+ iPhones can be manufactured (with a vendor management system feeding an equally huge number of components to manufacturing), tested, and delivered to customers. Every day.
Still, no inventor. :)

You act like 12% isn't significant. The fact that it's their second most profitable product speaks volumes.

People will always buy more iPhones than Macs, and they will buy them more often. It wouldn't be unheard of for one household to have 2 or more iPhones but only one Mac, and they will replace those iPhones every 1-3 years. Doesn't change the fact that the Mac market is still a huge driver for the company.

what Tim doesn't seem to realize is the Mac users are the core group which drive the other categories.

Apple has an entire market research team that analyzes these trends. Tim "realizes" a hell of a lot more than you do. There are plenty of Windows/Linux users who have iPhones, and there are plenty of corporate-issued iPhones. Your only evidence of your statement is anecdotal, and that's not evidence.

For me, it was the absolute reverse. I bought a first-gen iPod back when I was still using Linux on the desktop. It was the iPod (and the fact that OS X was unix-based and had finally become stable as of 10.2) that got me to buy my first Mac - the Early 2003 G3 iBook.

Also had to reschedule my day a bit to watch the :apple: event, hopefully it will be worth my time.. ;) o_O

Being in Europe, the keynotes are also at night (7pm), so no reason to reschedule anything, other than remembering to buy beer!

Prepare to be disappointed.

They will announce two, MAYBE three things, spend an hour on "filler" speeches no one wants to hear, then leave the rest of the product line to rot.

Apple's too entrenched in their traditions to so much as raise an eyebrow anymore...

(Full disclaimer: I really hope I'm wrong.)

Why so negative?
Yeah they've been a disappointment on the Mac front but Apple always has something interesting!
DOn't worry be happy!

While Macs only represent 12% of Apple's revenue...

...it's still a $20 billion a year business.

I wonder if Airpods will launch today... oh wait no one really wants those. Let's see the new MacBook Pros.
"No-one really wants those"?

Really? They are proving very popular and they aren't even on the shelves yet...

They'll sell a LOT of these.

People forget that. Yes the iPhone makes up the majority of the revenue but you take the iPhone away and they'd still make the FTSE 100 (if they were a British company). Just shows.

Nice,

I usually head into the office on Thursdays, but with the media event, I suddenly had an issue at home that required me to stay here :D

Now I can watch and not look over my back

Your boss is reading this thread.

Maybe it's just my imagination, but once upon a time, when Steve Jobs would announce new products (not all of them), didn't he say, "And it's available today!" Not "you can pre-order it starting one week from today" or some other vague promise of delivery. I think it was back in the days before the first iPhone was announced. He'd introduce a new Apple Mac(intosh) or iPod product and say, "And you can get it today...."

They look retarded lol. Yes, they're *so* popular... yet they're not out. That makes sense. They're not popular, no one has them. Watch the sales flop. Bookmark this page and this post.
