Apple would rather announce the iPhone with a late release date like they did with iPhone X than delay the traditional iPhone announcement. This is a lie.

iPhone X was buffered by iPhone 8. Not to mention $999 was a brand new price point. Not everyone was going to choose to pay 50% more than before.

Apple launching iPhone 5G early with no availability offers no benefits. It forces Apple to lower the price of iPhone 11. So it's a $100 shot in the foot for Apple.

No, it was not similar with iPhone X.

iPhone X introduced a brand new $999 ultra premium category. Prior to 2017, iPhones were typically $649. A $999 iPhone does not Osborne a $649 iPhone.
I said "similar" not same. I am aware of the price difference, my point was that there is precedence for a delay. We know there are delays with the iPhones, but maybe with four (rumored) new models we don't know if they are ALL delayed. It could be just the Pro models with mmWave modems and higher-end OLED. Regardless, either way I don't think it would "Osborne" anything because phone sales are going to slump no matter when Apple makes the announcement. In fact, if Apple is confident about their supply chain, delayed shipment could create perceived scarcity that could *drive* demand higher—obviously missing their ship date would likely crater consumer confidence and sales.

Also, the history of the Osborne computer that led to term is more complicated than simply an early release killing demand. It effectively killed the company because they *didn't* have the resources to complete the announced product once sales fell off. That is not Apple's position at all.

Now, all that clarified, I'm only 100% confident that Apple's announcements will be very different this year. I'm not 100% confident that will mean a regular announcement and a longer delay.

TIME FLIES

Apple Watch ‘Time’
iPad Air ‘Flies’ through the Air

play on words past ten years of iPad has flown by... TIME FLIES...

I 100% think this is going to be an iPad focused event, with a separate event for the iPhone in October... The blue colour just represents the sky (air).
Think you’ve got it.

I wonder if 10 years of the iPad means that the rumoured ‘iPad Air’ with the Touch ID on the power button will simply be referred to as ‘iPad’ ie look how far we’ve come in 10 years.

Maybe the current iPad will be known as ‘iPad classic’. Or iPad SE anyone?

So Prosser was right about the products being announced. Still seems odd to have an event just for incremental updates to iPad and Apple Watch.

By seeing the time flies caption I too feel Prosser was right on this

Just because the iPhones are delayed doesn’t mean they won’t be announced. They can announce them and then not release them for a year if they wanted.
I agree. Like some have already mentioned, the iPhone X was announced in September, but wasn't released until November. Same with the XR, it was announced in September and wasn't released until the the last week of October.

Maybe it's just me, but it doesn't seem worthy to make a big deal about an event just for the iPad and Apple Watch. What would they talk about for an hour about these two, or even half an hour? iOS 14 was already demoed extensively during the WWDC event, so I doubt they would be using this event to talk about that again either. I suspect they'll be announcing all/most their new products, even if they aren't being released for a month or two. They need to get things on people's radar for the upcoming holiday season.

None. My point was (assuming these latest rumors are accurate) he got the products right just predicted press release vs event. Honestly I would have assumed incremental updates to Watch and iPad could come via press releases as there probably wouldn’t be enough material for an event. One of Gurman’s tweets reference iPhone/iPad event and now the rumors are saying iPhone won’t be announced at this event. Everyone in the rumor business gets things wrong from time to time. BTW, every time a little birdie has said don’t expect new hardware at WWDC they’ve been right. I would be surprised if Apple leaked to Gurman but I could totally see someone inside Apple whispering ‘no iPhone’ in John Paczkowski’s ear.

In both instances where there was a delay (iPhone X and XR), there were buffer products (iPhone 8 and iPhone Xs). So Apple wasn't left selling a paper launch.

Right now, every credible source says mass production of iPhone 5G has been delayed. Kuo says the aluminum frame won't begin until early October. Nikkei says MP will begin gradually between the end of September and early October.

iPhone sales slump during this time of the year, but Apple doesn't need to make it worse by doing a paper launch. There is no benefit to a paper launch.

I agree. And to then turn around and produce a second iPhone specific event and potentially a third Apple Silicon Mac event (assuming they would want to promote a brand new AS device) all happening within the next 90 days seems more complicated than necessary. I for one would prefer to have one BIG event that incorporates all new devices, even if the event last 90-120 minutes.

From legal point of view, he said NO to event announcement today days ago. So here made the clear NO.
Again, to announce the event today, Apple was clearly was working for this, for days or even weeks...so IF jon had rock insider, that insider would have known that today will be an event announcement and not products
Again, if we think at cold, as we here say, in terms of court of law...Jon was wrong, Mark was right. Mark had the better insider to put this way...and also Mark is saying that at the event will not be iphones...so with 1 week earlier, so 7 days...
Remember, Jon even yesterday had the wrong "leak"

These people have no clue or idea. The fake news is all over the place
Kind of agree, but still Mark said that 2 days ago...so he said that with around 9-10 days in advance...and he can be wrong
But Jon was wrong even with 1 day in advance...i didnt saw Mark G to be wrong with 2-3 days in advance
But who cares, i mean this is blown out of porpotions...5 pages talking about this.
Macrumors and the other site...should take this in consideration , and not us, and next time...to give in percentage the credibility of the leaker
We , the readers should not be the ones who makes the math and track the records of these guys

So tell me...who really knows? Nobody here or any the so called leakers/guessers, proven guessers, 555! Just a lot of rumors floating around. Be patient and forget about it, the proven method 555...

Was Gurman putting out a rumor or just stating his opinion on Prosser’s rumor?

Most people are going to check out the event in hope of an iPhone 12 mention but there won’t be because if Apple announces the iphone12 now there’s still too many variables

no way the event just has an iPad and an Apple watch

there has to be some other things... AirPods studio, airtags, Apple TV? Macs? if they not going to mention iPhone.
