CS2 with Rosetta ??

Does anyone know if CS2, a ppc app, works ok with Rosetta installed?

Photography is just a hobby for me, and CS2 does everything I need from PS. It seems to run just fine on the Leopard MBP I just installed it on, and I've read a few things about issues there as well. As of yet, no problems for me though.

The fact that ppc apps will run if Rosetta is installed seems to be pretty well hidden and I've only seen it mentioned in very few reviews of SL.

I don't NEED SL, but I would like it.

Thanks,
Jeff

I don't understand why so many people seem to be confused about the existence of Rosetta. Apple never said that it was missing, I have seen numerous comments about it, it is an optional install in the SL disk, and if you don't install it but later need it SL will automatically install it for you. What is so hidden about that?

CS2 may work with some issues, but it's not likely as it's a PPC app. Most PPC apps have been having lots of issues.

Try it though if you have a leopard install copy, so you can go back if things happen.

Where have you been hearing that most PPC apps have been having lots of issues? I was in the seed program and most all of the PPC issues were worked out long before release AFAIK.

I guess hidden isn't the right word. I just have been seeing a ton of stuff about the lack of PPC support, but not much about ppc apps still being able to run with Rosetta. One of the lists of incompatible apps lists CS2. I'm wondering if that is fact, or assumption based on the "ppc not supported" part of SL and CS2 being a ppc app. I'm going on the assumption that it will run with Rosetta, because that is what Rosetta is for(ppc > intel). I will freely admit that when it comes to computers/software I am as illiterate as it gets and almost everything is over my head:confused:

SL has removed support for PPC *hardware* (hosts), not PPC applications. SL will not run on a PPC machine, but it can run PPC applications via Rosetta.

That is what I want to hear. If CS2 has a few bugs, I can live with that. I don't edit photos/need it to run flawlessly for a living. If I did then upgrading wouldn't be an issue. A pain yes, but just the cost of doing business.

Hi,

MAMP Pro 1.7.2

From the MAMP blog:

"MAMP & MAMP PRO are fully compatible with Mac OS X 10.6, Snow Leopard, the forthcoming version of Apple’s operating system. Snow Leopard will be released on August 28, and the curent version (1.7.2) of MAMP & MAMP PRO is already compatible with the new operating system."

greetings

Do Not Delete QT7!!

I like everyone else thought that QTX was going to answer all of our wishes and then deleted QT7 Pro. Now QT7 Pro won't install on 10.6 at all. The problem with QTX is that all preferences and export options are gone. I mean, they don't even exist. So all of the options for video encoding are no longer there, which is an issue for FCP users and even iMovie for that matter. Here's Engadget's review on QTX. I think Apple will release an update very soon in regards to this matter because QTX is MASSIVELY scaled down. So whatever you do, make sure you do not delete Quictime 7 Pro if you already have it and also keep in mind that can run both apps side by side. They're completely separate from each other.

calibre is pretty buggy in Snow Leopard. I had it crash right after the initial setup, then again after importing a few books.

I submitted a "ticket" on their website describing the two crashes and even supplied the entries from the Console log. Unfortunately, the developer advised me it currently was not compatible with Snow Leopard (no kidding) and wouldn't be until he could "get my hands on a machine capable of running it". That leads me to believe he only has a PowerPC Mac, so we might be waiting a bit for a SL-compatible version of calibre.

Hope it's soon though, as calibre is an aweseom e-book manager and is just barely usable in the current state in Snow Leopard.

Thanks! Added to the wiki.

If you can help out by adding the URL (click edit in the wiki, go down to calibre, put brackets around it and put the url in the front right after the open bracket like this:

[URL_HERE Calibre]

That would be a big help!)

Logitech Control Center (all versions) (for Logitech Mice) - only partially works, can't control expose or spaces with mouse buttons
Flip4Mac - beta version available for 10.6, but can't fast forward in Quicktime 10
Safari Adblock - new versions says Snow Leopard Compat. but won't show up in Safari when installed
Chax

Edit:
Logitech Control Center works using keystrokes and version 3.0
Safari Adblock works with RC3 version and running Safari in 32 bit mode
Chax - requires new version of Chax, runs as seperate program

no issues with Office 2008 here.

but my Sierra Wireless 881 USB card no longer works. The native driver is no longer compatible, and knowing Sierra Wireless it will take at least 6 months to fix it if at all.

Yeah, I'm having the same issue. I might have to revert back to Leopard if I can't get it working before Monday. I need that thing working for work on Monday! ARGH...
