Did they fix the whole mess with Apple official charging cables giving the 'this accessory is not supported' error and not charging?

Ruel #1 for BETAs

Hey I was dumb enough and trusting enough to put iOS 8 on my main phone, mostly because I did for every iOS 7 beta and never had problems as severe as I am having for iOS 8 beta.

So some of the few problems: Wouldn't let me answer calls...which was frustrating. Every app dashing eventually when switching to my emoji keyboard. Quick reply not actually sending messages. And the last and most annoying:

It wouldn't charge over night and won't even connect to my computer. So I tried turning it off and I couldn't even do it with assistive touch. I found someone online that said resetting network settings does the trick but now the phone won't turn on. It has the icon like it is dead and needs to charger (which it appears it actually is now) but I know the phone was around 20% when it was turned off.

What is the deal? I wanted to reset to iOS 7 but I don't want to lose my backup and have to start over...I'm weird about that. So if it works eventually should I just do a complete install of iOS 8 since the update was OTA?

What is the deal? Something you did to yourself. You ignored the warnings and installed a beta, and an early beta at that. Never ever install a beta unless you are prepared to reset your phone, losing data and apps. Apps you can reinstall. Data you may never be able to recover, and that by definition is BETA software. Plug it into iTunes and do a DFU, or use Xcode and restore iOS 7.1.1.

Exchange free/busy

Has anyone tried the Exchange free/busy of meeting receipiants yet? Does it work well?

I hope this thread gets stickied, or at least an "Ask questions" thread.

So my question is about read receipts. Something I have noticed (At least, as far as I know this is the case) is that people with read receipts off, obviously you don't know if they have read your message because it's off, but they know if you've read their message if you have it set to on.

Is this the case, and if it is, has it been changed in iOS8?

I find it kind of unfair if they get to see your read receipts but you don't get to see theirs. On WhatsApp, if you turn off the 'last seen' then you can't see anybody else's last seen either. So if you're not willing to give me read receipts then I don't want you getting my receipts either.

Also quick tip:

A lot of people I speak to say they turn read receipts off because they don't want to look like they're ignoring people. I work around this by, instead of clicking the message, reading it from the notifications centre. It doesn't send the receipt, and doesn't mark the message as read.

Handoff with iPad mini (1st gen) and 5S

So... Both devices have beta 2. The closest I have come to getting them to talk to each other is when I click a phone number on a webpage on my iPad. It will say it is making the call with my phone, but then says it can't do it. I also have yet to get any apps (Mail, Safari, Pages, iMovie etc..) to talk between the devices. Both are signed into my iCloud account, on the same network, and both have Bluetooth turned on.

What am I missing? Thanks.

I'm kind of serious about my photos. I want to be able to use them - untouched - as my lock screen and home screen. Have they changed this in IOS8? Positively despise what the auto-zoom does to my images in IOS7. I know this is petty, but I want to see MY photos when I turn the damn devices on, not Apple's alterations of them!!!!

You just turn off Perspective Zoom when you are adding the photo as a wallpaper.

It still alters the image. Zooms in and cuts off a huge portion of the photo, in most instances enough to destroy the composition.

IOS 8 iCloud restore

I started with beta 2, downloaded and restored from iCloud. I am now seeing that I should've done a clean install, but anyway. I've already waited to long and I have things on my phone now that are not being backed up to the cloud because my phone has not "completed restoring." All of my apps are completed, my camera roll photos are there, but my shared photo stream activity is not all there. I can scroll back quite a bit but it crashes, I don't know if this is the aspect of the restore that is incomplete, but my question is.... when the alert comes up to continue the restore (when I connect to wifi) or delete ... should I continue to select the continue to restore button? Also, the little restore arrows that circle up top when restore is working... that only comes up when I open the photos app. That leads be to believe that the photos are where the restore is incomplete. Otherwise, the beta is pleasantly surprising in terms of stability and functionality. I just didn't know if anyone could give me some pointers on how to keep all of my new data that has been added since my download of beta 2, because I would rather not have to go back to a clean install from the 18th of June and lose everything since... Is it possible? Or will this fix itself on down the line with beta 3 or 4? Thanks. Oh, also, when I plug my phone into iTunes... it gives the option to set up as new or restore from the cloud, but my last cloud restore is from June 18th, so ... there's that. I didn't know if it was real important to the whole picture. I appreciate any help.

Does Touch ID still have that 2 day/reboot limit with iTunes and App Store?

Meaning, right now if I reboot my phone or don't make any Store purchases within a time frame, I have to enter my Apple ID instead of just using Touch ID. Is this still the case?

So I wonder if AdBlock will finally be able to be supported. Those pop ads are such a nuisance

I got a question regarding iOS 8

Does it finally allow our devices to take out the garbage? Is it limited to 5S'?

This is a stupid question, but how do you send messages in iOS 8 with the audio recording button where the Send button is currently?

If you start to type, the audio recording button morphs into a classic Send button.
