Here goes my stupid question! On every mayor release, I do clean installs and set up as new iPhone. This time though I have some photos I want to be stored in iCloud photo library so I plan on updating over the air and after they are all stored in iCloud, do a full iOS 8 restore and set up as new iPhone. Will my photos be still on iCloud photo library and can they be downloaded to my restored phone?

Thanks in advance!

WiFi Calling on T-Mobile

I purchased my iPhone 5S through Verizon. If I sign up with T-Mobile and use a T-Mobile SIM in this iPhone will WiFi calling work?

I spoke with some T-Mobile folks at a T-Mobile retail location who lead me to believe that I would need to use an iPhone purchased through T-Mobile if I wanted WiFi calling. We tested my phone and it worked with the T-Mobile SIM but they said WiFi calling would not work.

Can you clarify?

No it works. I did the same thing. Is the model of your iPhone 5s an A1533?

I would just transfer them onto your computer...

iCloud restore?

Once I install Beta 5, can I transfer my data (apps/settings) from a prior iCloud backup?

Yes it work, I have the same A1533 model with no issues and I am on Tmo-Wifi Caling right this moment.

I can confirm this as well - bought my 5S from Verizon off-contract, testing T-Mobile coverage with a T-Mobile pre-paid SIM. Using Wifi calling vacationing in Northern Michigan (_very_ spotty T-Mobile coverage up here), I love it.

Search

Why when I do a search on my MacBook does the result keep scrolling. It appears then disappears then appears an so on

Sorry if this was already asked, but here's my silly question:

When inverted colors are enabled and you turn your phone off, does it still flash white?

iOS 7 introduced this behavior, fading to black when the screen's turned off.

Don't see that on iOS 7. The fading kind of goes to grayish color before going to black, but no white/flash that I can see. (Using black 16 GB iPhone 5 with iOS 7.1.2, in case that might play some role in it.)

I asked this a while ago and wondering if anyone can answer? I haven't had an answer yet.

So my question is about read receipts. Something I have noticed (At least, as far as I know this is the case) is that people with read receipts off, obviously you don't know if they have read your message because it's off, but they know if you've read their message if you have it set to on.

Is this the case, and if it is, has it been changed in iOS8?

How would this change? Each user is given the right to choose whether they want others to know if they've read their messages or not.

No, it has not changed. If you have it on, others will know if you've read their messages, but it does not automatically turn it on for them. If they have it off, you won't know if they have read your messages.

It still works the same way in iOS 8.

I don't see why that would change really. The settings are separate for each user, so if you don't want to have them enabled you can change that for yourself, and if someone else doesn't they change that for themselves.

I think you're missing the point, I explained it in my original post

I find it kind of unfair if they get to see your read receipts but you don't get to see theirs. On WhatsApp, if you turn off the 'last seen' then you can't see anybody else's last seen either. So if you're not willing to give me read receipts then I don't want you getting my receipts either.

If someone isn't sending me read receipts, I don't want them receiving mine either. Fair game. WhatsApp does the same thing but with the 'last seen' stamp.

The only thing that needs to be changed is making the "Turn off read receipts" not only stop sending them, but also stop receiving them. I'm not saying I want to individually choose people to not get read receipts.

Siderz,

iOS 8 has no change whatsoever in those rules.

Thank you for simply answering it instead of asking more questions.

I saw what you mentioned, but I guess what I was saying is that it's not really a game or anything about fair--it's a setting that you can enable or disable and everyone can do it for themselves. Email has read receipts (even if they aren't used much/often in general), and they don't require this or that. I get the idea of what you are saying, but that's not really what it's there for and not really how it works, despite some messaging services implementing it that way for whatever reasons they might have. That's why I was trying to say that it's probably not likely to get changed.

Does iOS 8 get rid of the "saved messages" that Apple is blantantly ignoring at this point? It's taking up 10GB on my phone.

Saved messages? Are you talking about the bug that was there until about iOS 6.1 or so? If so, the bug isn't there, but any messages that might have been affected before that would still be there and the only way to get rid of those is to not restore from a backup that has them.

Idk if it's still there cause it's already ate up all my memory and I don't want to back up from an old because I have current stuff I need to keep.

Unfortunately that's pretty much the main way to actually free up that space.

Is there any way to lock data mode to 3G?

Currently on my Android phone I have the ability to lock the network to Auto - WCDMA only - GSM only

I keep it locked to WCDMA cause where I am is very patchy, I'd rather have internet than gsm!
