I am. I'm at $86/month for grandfathered unlimited data, unlimited text and 400 minutes a month (that I don't use) after the FAN. And I think that's about to go up $5/month, right? so $91 (with tax) to ~$98? 7 dollars to add tethering? Sure, why not? And I think they'll eventually turn FAN back on for these plans.

I was doing basically the identical w/ 450 minutes that roll over and the roll over minutes always covered, the $5 hike is definitely coming and another after that, tethering at LTE speeds is the best, will save me on my next iPad Pro, no need for data and the more expensive model

The comments here + AT&T's reaction = they got hit HARD by defections over the past week. Surprised their stock price didn't take a dive as well - the next quarterly report will NOT be pretty.

Do you seriously believe that "we are such a big country that's why we can only offer $100/line" BS? Come on! That's fake news.

Sweden has half the density as US, Norway and Finland has a third! How can they offer same low prices? These three countries combined don't even have 5-10% of the (super expensive) lines that U.S. has.
All you really need to do is look at telcos margins to decide for yourself whether they are making money hand over fist. The reality is that the margins in the US are about the same as elsewhere (or they used to be, last I got myself involved in the discussion). TMO, for example, is/was bottom, namely because they had to dumb a boatlaod of cash to get their network where it needed to be.

U.S. hotels no longer charge for WiFi -- since at least 2015.
Sure they do...it's called a "resort fee". $25-$40 per night, includes WIFI. In some cases, if you want "faster" wifi, it will cost you upwards of $10 more per night. Almost ANY hotel (not Motel) charges it now. Being a "fee", it's not subject to tax and is pure profit for the hotel. Unfortunately, whether or not you use it, you are forced to pay for it.

From what I gathered in reddit
  1. Edited - You will be getting a $25 credit from the other plans, the promotional $35 Go Big plan is excluded (just read their fine print).
  2. No FAN discounts anymore, except military/veterans so far.
  3. Not sure.
PS: Their call centers are actually helpful, on rare occasions not.

thanks for clarifying. I have the the $35 go big so no discount for me.

Will see. They will do the typical telco like reporting counting customers transferring to the new unlimited as 'new' sign ups to their great plan.

That was there since the beginning. Notice the words "may not". This does not mean they don't.

It's AT&T though... There are 2 reasons that I believe that the discount won't apply...
1. Verizon's Unlimited plan does not allow for discounts... so of course they will definitely will follow that to a T.
2. Its AT&T. They get a bad rap about their pricing and service, mostly due to things like this.

They should have just said "Discounts are not valid besides auto-pay credit, DirectTV credit and veterans/military discount. Or said no FAN. They have lawyers writing this, and if I know anything about that, it means that there must be some exception besides what I listed.

And I don't disagree with you one bit. They need to think this crap out before releasing it. But because of AT&T's reputation, I'm not holding my breath. Even then, I'm losing my $6 discount on the Unlimited plan to get hotspot. Not a huge loss. My wife and I discussed it and we are willing to roll the dice on autopay.

My current discount with the UDP is $32 a month. If fan carries over, it would be a $24 so $8 a month less but for tethering, yes. Even if the FAN doesn't carry over, it is still cheaper than 3 UDP plans.

Are these network deals really worthy of front page stories? I appreciate there will be interest from people who use these forums, but wouldn't the More MR Stories section be a more appropriate place? I know there's always the "you don't have to read it if you're not interested" comeback, but this doesn't really seem it should be primary news for an internationally-focussed Apple-specific website.
Saving money on your iPhone's plan is major news and much appreciated.

I'm on T-Mobile, with about 10 lines (business plan)

But I fail to see why anyone is still on AT&T.

With T-Mobile being the cheaper option, and Verizon having a vastly better network than AT&T while still being cheaper, it astounds me that people are still on AT&T.

This is not meant as a personal attack, please explain why you wouldn't switch from them?
Very true. Im ready to switch to TM but im getting mixed reviews about their service. I guess there's only one way to find out

It's a great question - I would LOVE to switch to verizon - at&t SUCKS. but they offer one important thing that verizon does not: you can be on the phone AND the internet at the same time on the LTE network. this is critical for my business. I think t-mobile offers this as well but they don't have near the network that at&t does.

I remember that being a huge let down with a Verizon iPhone on 3G. But I thought Verizon LTE, allows simultaneous phone call and internet access? Can a Verizon user confirm this one way or the other?

I saw the fine print about the "go big" $35 plan although it isn't called that anymore I'm surprised no one had tried to get a discount because of the typo.
if they would have allowed this I may have given directv another shot. It was freezing and de syncing when I tried it at launch

Without this story I would have never known. This is very much welcomed.

Over 400 comments and counting...seem like there's quite a lot of interest.

Yes, with VoLTE (or WiFi) simultaneous voice and data is something that is supported.

Old news, no longer relevant with newer VZW handsets that are compatible with VZW's requirements. I'm a long-time VZW sub, simultaneous voice/data work on my backup iPhone 6 and my daily carry 6S+. So, confirmed.

Well before LTE being deployed, the first VZW LTE phone was also capable of simultaneous 3G data and voice-over-EVDO, HTC's Thunderbolt had two antennas that made that possible in markets where S-EVDO was deployed.

History lesson aside, I tether/check and read emails/talk on my VZW iP6S+ pretty much every day. My handset is properly configured for this arrangement.

The significant difference between VZW handsets and ATTWS handsets is the number of simultaneous calls one can carry. My VZW iPhone is pretty much limited to one call at a time, my ATTWS iP6S can handle up to 6 calls - pretty much the way it's been for years AFAIK.

The wife and I just jumped ship from our grandfathered unlimited plans to T-Mobile. After the monthly discount, from a former employer, we were still paying $168 a month for 2 lines...with a $5 per line bump coming in March. Jumped on the T-Mobile One unlimited. 2 lines for $100/month with 10 gb of tethering. Throw in the 20% off for life discount I got from an old neighbor who works for T-Mobile and we're at $80/month tax included. Just saved almost $1k per year by making the change and I'm not looking back. Heck we might add my in-laws and parents to our plan. 3 lines with T-Mobile One is $140/month. Lines 4-8 are only an additional $20 per line. We could be looking at 6 lines, unlimited with tethering for $200/month or $33/line. That is tough to beat.

This new unlimited plan is not a deal. They're just throwing in the tethering. And to get that you have to ditch your current grandfathered plan.

Just did the same. #NOTLOOKINGBACK

On March 1st you can add a 3rd line for free on Tmobile, so 3 lines/$100

3 way calls have been possible with Verizon for a long time (even since the days of basic feature phones). 6 way calling has been possible since the days of VoLTE.

FAN doesn't work on the new ones
I can confirm this, per the conversation I had with an AT&T rep yesterday. she read me something off her notes to the effect of, "FAN discounts cannot be applied to this promotion."
[doublepost=1488280948][/doublepost]
Please do research before you post this. Multiple people, including myself have confirmed with AT&T that it does work. Including the post above yours.
I can confirm when I spoke to a rep over the phone yesterday while she was clicking away and looking for the information to tell me, FAN discounts cannot be applied. Take this with a grain of salt.
[doublepost=1488281132][/doublepost]
Well, I'm locked in the current unlimited plan now and my 25% discount does apply to the $60 portion of it, making it $45. At least I have that to fall back to if the new Unlimited plan on Thursday doesn't have a FAN discount.
Exactly what I have as well.

It seems to me that the only purpose of AT&T's recent "unlimited" plans is to make their shared data plans look like a good value.
