This is exactly why I decided to switch to the previous version of the unlimited plan. I have a 25% FAN discount and was at least able to save $15 off my monthly bill - the total will be $125 pre-tax, approximately $148 post-tax. In the 8 years that I've been using smartphones, I've never used tethering, so it's not a dealbreaker.

On a different note, knowing that I can be saving nearly $50/month with T-Mobile really makes me wish that their coverage was more reliable. I'd switch in a split second.

It looked like I had to option to apply my fan discount to the non tethering unlimited data plans but now it looks like those plans are completely unavailable

The phone rep basically did the same thing to me. She quoted me the price of the Unlimited Plus plan (which she kept calling Unlimited Choice and I had to keep correcting her), and she 100% told me that my FAN discount applied. Then she put me on hold for like 20 minutes and came back and told me that my FAN discount didn't apply. Now if I want to switch it's actually going to cost me more than I am paying now. They simply don't get it.
Well, my case was worst that yours. I physically went to a ATT store and had a manager do all the numbers for me and send me it via email which came from an ATT email. He called my phone 3 hours later to apologize and say he FAN discount would not apply. Couldn't ATT just have a huge disclaimer saying: FAN discounts DO NOT APPLY!!!!! I am lucky I didn't change since I would not be able to get back my grandfathered unlimited plan. What a joke!!!!

"Has anyone figured out how to link an AT&T wireless account with a DirectNow account to get the 25 dollar credit?"

I spoke to 3 different AT&T reps today. They all said I don't have to do anything. They said it's automatic and will take up to 3 billing cycles. The $25 discount will come off your Directv Now, not your AT&T bill. I had to call 3 times because I wasn't sure if I believed that I didn't have to do anything. They didn't ask for my E-mail associated with my Directv Now account or for anything else. I hope they are correct.

No. It's per line. 22GB per line and 10GB tethering per line.
I don't think so. You are charged $20 per line to connect to your plan. The only thing I can find in the fine print and all is the 10GB limit on tethering per line. I think it all pulls from the same allotment of unlimited data plan

The fine print states: "Discounts: Plans may not be eligible for offers, credits, or discounts." Pretty clear to me...

What is clear? The definition of the word "may" is very clear: used to indicate possibility or probability. Thus, it never says it WON'T be eligible. That is exactly what ATT should do it since FAN discount is NOT ALLOWED. Not even their store managers know how the rules.

I had previously been on a long-standing FamilyTalk plan with 3 other family members, but I was the only one with unlimited data on the old AT&T grandfathered plan (~$230/month with taxes). With it increasingly looking like FAN discounts not applying for Unlimited Plus, I decided to pull the trigger on Unlimited last night at 10 PM before it was too late.

Checked this morning and I'm pretty happy with the result. Tethering is not worth $360/year in my mind.

CRAP I should've pulled the trigger last night. I'm in a similar situation with a 3 line family plan. Before FAN discount I'm at $240. Could've saved a nice chunk of change.

Excerpt from chat w/ AT&T "Loyalty" - confirmed no FAN and wouldn't do anything to improve price (even after sending him a link to the TMo offer of $100 all in for three(!) unlimited lines):

rep : I have reviewed all of my resources, and have confirmed that with you being on a grandfathered plan with unlimited data on line ending xxxx that uses about 20gb of data over the past three months, that the best option we do have to match your data needs would be the unlimited plus or unlimited choice plans, and unfortunately they do not have the FAN discount option as well. so I do apologize for the inconvenience
me : so then why did the other rep transfer me to you?
me : i knew that already
rep : I definitely agree, VZ is very comparable to AT&T in size of network and pricing, and tmobile is growing fastly and will be in the same league that will force AT&T and VZ into lowering costs. The previous agent transferred to see if we had any other options available to offer, but since you are on an older plan I have determined that the unlimited plus or choice would be the next best option for you

Pretty crazy. Even with my large FAN discount it's cheaper to go with TMobiles 3 lines for $100 promotion.

Might consider switching over

Can you check and see if Retentions might still have the old one available to give out?

We have 5 lines. On the AT&T app it shows $115.00 plus $20.00 access charge totaling $215.00, Then $40.00 credit for "Discount for access charge" for a final pretax $175.00. Online it shows the same but no discount for $215.00. If I pull the trigger, am I going to get the discount? Calling AT&T is no help.

I did that last night and I was from the original UDP since iPhone 3G...Got three T-Mobile Unlimited everything (third for free) and additional 20% discount for $80 out the door taxes/fees included, may even drop to $70 if my dad use less than 2GB (he never use data...), not bad at all for 3 unlimited lines...

My bill went from $85 (one UDP, one dumb phone line and the march $5 increase and all taxes and fee) to $80 (or $70) for THREE lines...

Spoke with AT&T rep this morning before pulling trigger also, with same question. Told it's a system error & no access discounts would apply. Another fail!

im in metro DFW as well. When did you try T mobile? Was this pre the ATT merger break up or post it. They have spent significant money on infrastructure since then which is why im willing to give them a shot. just talked to my peeps in Houston that recently moved to T mobile within last month and they claim their service is great.

I mean im on a microcell in my house because ATT suck here s so its worth it for me to explore.

I was on T-Mobile until January, so it was only about 5-6 weeks ago that I switched back to AT&T. I honestly think it's likely an issue with their towers in this area being over-saturated because the issue with the dropped calls, poor data speeds and delayed texts started around September or so and gradually got worse over time to the point where I just couldn't deal with it any longer.

Is the tethering data completely separate from the mobile data?

AT&T told me it's all seperate. Each line gets 22GB plus 10GB tethering.
I've had that question as well, and just talked with CS while calling from my ATTWS line. To throw more mud at the window, I was told that the 10GB tethering allotment is included in the 22GB. Tethering will slow down after 10GB regardless of how much data is used on a line.

Also, CS related that each MHS/Home Phone+Internet device will include 10GB of data and be throttled after that threshold is reached. I'm considering porting a landline to a Home Phone device, which led to that question.

And, having mentioned in this post that I called from my ATTWS line, I was on hold for about 30 seconds. I am calling (and am on hold now) from one of my VZW lines and was informed by the digital system that the wait time would be 10 minutes. My GF called from her ATTWS and then VZW lines and pretty much was informed of the same wait times. IMHO ATTWS is prioritizing native customers… If there's a difference in "the message" regarding tethering I'll post it in an edit here.

EDIT: So, mixed messages here. I just got off the phone with CS. Again. First, I was informed that the 22GB data bucket (with its conditions) is fully separate from the 10GB tethering data bucket (with its conditions). Second, the Home Phone+Internet has no data bucket (which differs from what is described on the web landing page). The call from my VZW line was answered - eventually - by a US-based person while the previous call from my ATTWS line was by a person in Manila (I asked). So, like Trump and his staff, multiple answers that differ from what's in the landing pages' print. Sigh.

Direct from AT&T's website:
Data Restrictions: After 22GB of any data usage on a line in a bill cycle, AT&T may slow the data on that line during periods of network congestion for the remainder of that cycle.

Tethering and Mobile Hotspot: Includes up to 10GB per line per month. After 10GB, tethering speed will be slowed to a max of 128Kbps for the rest of the bill cycle (except for these products: Connected Cars, Hot Spots, and Wireless Home Phone and Internet.). Except for those products, all tethering data usage, including sponsored data if tethered, will be impacted and will not be fully functional.
