July 14, 2010 @9.31am,

Seattle, WA - still capped at < 95kbps; but there was one moment it hit 339kbps upstream, however. Then subsequent tests reveals still < 95kbps upstream rates.

I have a feeling they will not fix this issue because it is going to be a hard cap policy that is hidden from the public. I just don't understand how much more incompetent AT&T can be.

People are going to get tired of all these games and return their iPhones. I talked to 3 CSRs and none of them have has a clue of what's going, WTF? What I am wondering about is:are all the people who are suffering from this slow data issue have the unlimited data plan or not? If so that might be why..they will cap the upload speeds but still gives us unlimited data

Even better! Now my DL speeds have been dropped to ****. Columbus, OH

That's an interesting question. I returned my iP4 yesterday and reactivated my 3GS.
I'm still getting awful upload speeds. Different locations in Brooklyn over the past day;
1806, 158
1350, 96
1770, 96
2454, 57
1013, 94
2281, 186
1251, 97
697, 66
810, 60
89, 35 (5 brs)
1490, 102
72, 44 (5 bars)
51, 47 (5 bars)

So, though not "capped", seeing the 158 and 186, pretty limited. Wonder if having the iP4 on unlimited plan has flagged my account.

Philly is still bad. Went to ATT today to do a SIM Swap like ATT said to do. No improvement. ATT rep said its my iphone. LOL..

This is a much bigger issue to me than the antenna problems. At least I have control over that. The crippled upload speeds however, are completely in the hands of ATT, and this point we're getting very little feedback from them.

There was a vague statement concerning faulty Lucent equipment in 'select' markets, but ATT support clearly hasn't been given the same information. Very frustrating...

Rather than posting here, where can we complain to make a difference?

Anyone know email addresses or phone numbers of AT&T wireless executives?

The best upload speed I can get here in the nyc/nj area is 220, but it's normally in the 95-100 range.

D/l speed is fine for me though, get between 2200-2700

DL should be around 4500 if speeds were normal. Still hasn't been fixed but safari browsing seems to be a little more responsive here in the NYC suburbs tonight. Either that or it's just the placebo effect. Speed tests don't match norms.

I feel like I'm haunting this thread, but I'll stop complaining when AT&T fixes the problem. Until then, daily bump.

I just got the phone on monday, so didn't know the d/l speeds were off too. Still much better than the awful upload speeds though.

It *is* a bit odd that whatever fix they applied to Michigan (was it just Detroit?) hasn't been applied to other markets.

However, this issue made the WSJ, NYT and was all over the tech blogs. AT&T knows full well that they can't hide anything like this from the public. Plus, it's doubtful that they spend boatloads of money on HSUPA and then won't use it.

I'd say 4500 is very good DL but I wouldn't expect it on a regular basis.

Remember, the download is shared across all users in the cell. There's only so much available. If you have 10 people DLing at the same time, you're going to get (surprise, surprise) about a tenth of the speed you'd get otherwise.

Mine is just getting worse, I live 45 minutes from Philly. Btw, as I mentionned in a previous post. I spent an hour with AT&T and did an over ther air network update which didn't help as you guys see.

Renton/Bellevue, WA July 14, 2010 @6.24pm:

AFTER iOS 4.1 beta 1 update, here is the rate I am getting. I don't consistently get 210kbps upstreams, but i do get 4.5mbps and up downstreams.

I don't consider this "FIXED" by any means.

What were your speeds before the update ?
Thanks

It is the 'upstream' bandwidth that is subpar. I used to get 4.5mbps average and about 1.5mbps upstream averages.

It's NOT >200kbps consistently. I'd say out of 5 attempts, I got 200+ only once. The rest was 100kbps and under.

But somehow the downstream was double of what the 10 day averages were for me: (2000kbps) and lower. Another person I know that has the 4.0 (not 4.1 iOS) has about nearly the same results.

Do you honestly think that the update had something to with it ?

I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT BELIEVE THE UPDATE TO IOS 4.1 HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH THIS BANDWIDTH INCREASE/Decrease

The reason being, a friend of mine who is across town does not have iOS 4.1 updated on his iPhone 4 and results are similar to mine. But my other iPhone 3GS shows half the bandwidth in the exact same location as my iPhone 4.

This entire debacle is just sloooow..perhaps we are all impatient but come on, we paid for iPhone 4 and AT&T's hsupa speeds.

I see many people getting their uploads back. AT&T is working on it. However, you want someone to yell at? Yell at Alcatel, they broke the system, not AT&T.

I order a hotdog at the costco food court and I come home crapping out curry, do I go and sue the hotdog brand (kirkland) or do I look at costco and complain? (we all know kirkland series can be any brand name repackaged).

Of course I'm going to blame AT&T.

Amen to that ....We do pay a lot of money to have these nice gadgets ! Can you run another test just to make sure please ?
