Verizon chat helped me activate my eSIM today. Worked well. Then I thought I would see what would happen if I took my iPhone back to the factory settings and reinstalled all my software. It never reactivated Verizon because it deleted the eSim configuration unlike having a physical SIM card. I had to go to the Verizon store and have them reactivate my old SIM card.
Couldn’t you Just have scanned the qr code again?
That’s what I did and it worked

Is there any known benefits to switching my main line to esim and leaving the sim tray empty?

Unless you have two lines, I am asking myself the same question. When traveling, I know I can swap my $USCELL$ company SIM out with a local one and I won't be charged anything.

If I am using ESIM for my main line, is there a way to totally deactivate it when you travel abroad in the same way you can pull out your existing $USCELL$ company SIM out?

Does it work the same?

I have AT&T on my eSIM and Verizon on a nano sim. AT&T doesn’t always work around here, so I switch to Verizon when there is low or no AT&T service.

I plan on switching my nano sim to Xfinity and only use it as a back up.

If you don’t plan on having 2 services or traveling out of the country, there’s no point in switching to e-sim.

Ok so after a long month i was able to get it working, however a few things don't work as when I used to have 2 phones, and dont work the way I read some posts and articles not sure if it's something wrong elsewhere.
1. Wifi calling on ATT didnt work at first, after chatting with a rep he had to input my esim IMEI and it started working. However when i switch sim from which one to use for voice or data wifi calling stays enabled but doesn't work under ATT but works for my other carrier. If i disable and reenable it back it works fine again.
2. I cant have 2 numbers for iMessage or FaceTime. I know thats what it says in the settings, but i read quite a few articles and posts that it's fine and both numbers can be used. When I had 2 phones all numbers were under my iCloud account and i was able to send/receive from any number on any phone.
3. Not sure if this has to do with the issue one or both of the above, but numbers sync feature for my att line can't get enabled. And only time my mac rings is when its nearby.
Has anyone experienced any of these?

Thanks

Nope, if you don’t use a second sim no need to use esim.

Thats what I have is xfinity for backup. It’s only $2.50 a moth for unlimited min/text.

what if i reset and erase the phone completely, will the esim provision remains or i have to go back to the store?? that would be unfortunate,

I tried that it said code is no longer valid. The stores I went today in Atlanta were clueless. Tomorrow all the stores should have the codes available and 24 hour chat will have them available starting at 12AM tonight.

I was told to keep the QR Code and reuse it if you need to reset your phone. If you get a new phone, you would need a new QR code.
QR code is the same as putting your old physical sim into a new phone. All an esim is is a chip that stores ICCID of the actual sim. It is kind of the same thing as a physical sim. You can restore your phone all you want as long as you have the QR code you are fine.

That is so bizarre. Mine worked twice. Today the store that finally let me do it, at first he was telling me its only for a secondary line. So then Im like are you listening to yourself. Lets pretend i get a second line right now i leave the store and lose my phone. I buy a new phone and then to add another esim ill need to buy another line?

yes there is a disable feature

I believe that I finally was able to activate my primary line on my eSIM. Is it normal for it to show as secondary?

I was also told by a different AT&T representative that the ICCID doesn't show as active on only wireless number .. I am still in shock that most of these representatives seem clueless.

I am able to talk, text and surf the web without a physical SIM card in the slot.

I have Verizon as my Primary number (sim card) and activated AT&T for my Business line (eSim) yesterday. I cannot get iMessage to work with both numbers at the same time. It's one number or the other. Is this because Verizon is on my Sim card?

Also, I left AT&T without my QR code. Looks like a mistake.

iMessage is by design, it even says that in the iMessage/facetime number setting. Only one can be used at once. This is actually a shame, because when I had 2 phones both numbers were tied to my icloud and i could use either or from either phones. I submitted a feature request hopefully they will get enough noise about it and make that possible.
However, I did read a few articles that people had that 2 imessage numbers working, I cannot find them anymore, but I don't know how they were able to do that since it clearly says only one can be used.
For me because my ATT number isnt used as imessage/facetime number so i cannot get numbersync to work and that sucks because I actually used that feature quite a bit.
Yes, you leaving without QR code was a mistake. I did restore my phone yesterday and was able to add the number back using the same QR number, I read that some people had trouble doing that, but I honestly wouldn't know why. Esim is just a chip that stores ICCID that is linked to your account at the carrier level nothing more. I also noticed that I am getting better service with esim, could be just a coincidence.

I would love to know how that’s done. I’ve had 2 phone #s on iMessage when I had 2 phones.

I cant find that article anywhere. It was a blogger article describing how to set it up and their use cases and he/she stated they were able to send/receive from both imessage numbers. I didn't bother saving it because i wouldn't even think that wasn't the case because i had 2 numbers linked before on both phones.
I tried to toggle back and forth in the imessage number selection settings and as soon as you toggle between the lines the other disappears from the send receive settings.
I think the more people ask for a feature the higher the chance it would come.

Like you, I left the AT&T store without the QR code. I came back later to retrieve it and was told it was disposed off to eliminate potential fraud. However, the agent gave me the 20 digits ICCID number associated with my esim and told me I can reactivate my esim manually with number. You don’t have to go to the store since the same number shows in the settings>general>about in the AT$T section.

Many thanks! I will save that number.

If anyone figures out how to use both numbers with iMessage, I'm all ears. I know I have had two iPhones, one on each carrier, and iMessage worked with both numbers. Only difference, two devices. I feel politics are in the way of this happening.

I actually don't think its the politics this time. I think its Apple being Apple and they think what's best for customers.
As all of us who had 2 phones were able to do it easily on both phones so i really can't see a reason why apple simply can't make it so you can select to receive imessages on both lines but start conversation with whatever you prefer, kind of exactly how sms is done right now.
For me not having imessage on that line is not the end of the world, but not having numbersync sucks.

Does my AT&T Max need to be unlocked to use the esim on another carrier?
Yes

This is total BS and I don't understand it. It's ok because I was using Line2 until yesterday and anything is better than that.

I know, I think eventually they will enable it. I just don't see a reason why they wouldn't. Maybe whatsapp will also launch a dual number version for us.

Ok so something weird happened. I took my old physical sim plugged it into an old iphone with my icloud signed in. And it somehow picked up the number that is now on my esim an registered it to my icloud and i had 2 numbers working for about 20 seconds. It then deactivated it and now it wont register that number anymore.
It seems that somehow the short message code was able to authenticate me through the other phone.
UPDATE: I don't think it happened I think it pushed my other imessage number back to that phone, because i've tried everything and that's the only thing that happens.

Yes same here. I removed physical sim and able to do everything with an eSim.
