Is anybody else extremely disappointed with the non-upgrade eligible pricing plans? I specifically joined AT&T in March so that I would be able to get the iPhone. I did not expect to have to pay $200 more than "new" customers.. I would have been just as happy staying on a cheaper plan @ T-Mobile for 4 more months and saving myself $200 come July 11th.

Also, I bought a $30 refurb Curve for a reason--so that I could toss it w/o losing sleep come iPhone 3G release--NOT to be told I'm not eligible for the $299 upgrade pricing until SEPTEMBER of 2009!!

Absolutely ridiculous. Trust that I will be calling up AT&T tonight and throwing some punches. Anybody else in the same boat?

I did the same. But when you did that, how much did you expect to pay for the new iPhone? I was planning for the same type of prices as Gen 1. But Apple / ATT threw a change-up and decided to subsidize the new one. It didn't change the fact that I was 'planning' on paying the higher price, but it stings nontheless that if I (we) would have just waited a few months to switch over, we would have qualified for the cheaper price.

But since I'm on a 2 line family plan, it may work out that I only have to add the data plan (+ new 2 year) w/o affecting my voice plan...which sounds like the voice rates also went up.

At least you got a cool Curve as a backup...I just got a freebie phone.

My 1G is looking better and better!

I would not mind the 15$ per month extra cost, if the 3G roll out was not so lacking. Its sad, really sad.

Wow... so I guess this thing about being a "current iPhone owner" wasn't true afterall. If you bought the new iPhone, most likely you'll only be eligible for the $399/$499 pricing.

Oh well, just gotta do one extra shift and its paid for=)

If you're a current iPhone owner on an iPhone plan, your upgrade eligibility should have already been changed on your account? Mine was -- don't think it matters when you started, but maybe. Log in to your account to check.

do current iPhone users get the 199/299 prices or the 399/499 prices?

my account says I can't upgrade even though I have an iPhone. Am i mistaken or should i be able to upgrade?

Geez, that is a ton more then I pay for my 2-line family plan through Verizon. And that isn't even factoring in taxes or text messaging for AT&T, so your talking probably a $70 difference. That is nearly doubling what I pay now for Verizon (2 lines, 500 min, 200 text messages apiece for ~$75 total). In favor of AT&T, I would be gaining data, visual voicemail, and one heck of a cool phone. But is that worth an extra $70 a month for me?

If gas prices keep going up, I don't think I will be able to get an iPhone in December. I could afford the phone, that monthly plan is going to be tough though to justify. At least I have nearly 6 more months to decide...

ddaaaammm

That's where all the money are hidden! Feels so warm and fuzzy knowing that Apple just gave all its customers to AT&T and can't control anything.

I can't even imagine the prices for new generation :apple:iPhone.

I honestly don't believe that's true ... if it were the case, why is there an additional $39.99 fee for additional iPhones?

Because 30 dollars data plus 9.99 line fee equals 39.99??

Honestly, yes the plans are more expensive, but geez it isn't that much different than the first iPhone where you had to pay 29.99 for each iPhone past the first two. Note at the bottom it says the next 3 iphone are 39.99 each, and you can have 5 lines per account simple math dictates that they assume you are getting two iPhones.

do current iPhone users get the 199/299 prices or the 399/499 prices?

my account says I can't upgrade even though I have an iPhone. Am i mistaken or should i be able to upgrade?

If you have an original iPhone then, yes, you qualify for the 199/299 price.

With the price changes, I'm actually happy I didn't wait for iPhone 3G (no 3G here anyways). Ends up saving me $15/month. Now I just have to hope I don't break my current iPhone anytime soon :D

so if we're existing and we upgrade, do we have to pay any extra for the 3G or is that not a factor anymore?

AWESOME! I love the prices!

$85 a month - 20% corp discount = great deal

unfortunately, i'll have to pay $399 for the phone.

i'm happy with the cost; not happy with the phone "upgrade" specs though.

AT&T did not offer a corporate discount on the 1st gen iPhone. Are they allowing it for the 2nd gen?

What about my employer discount??? Glad they gave some of the details, but where are the rest??? (i.e./e.g. employer discounts...)

AT&T's incorrect pricing for messages and per minute

Did anyone notice that the cost for a text message is only 2 tenths of a cent now? Also according to AT&T's chart, minute charges are less than a half a cent? That's a huge decrease.... or AT&T is too stupid to not use a decimal point with the cent symbol. (I think it's more the latter than the former)

Where's AT&T's proofreader?!?!

holy moly...they raised the voice plan prices in this one!

Nope. The $69 INCLUDES the data. So if you back out the $30 3G data fee the voice is still $39.

The only price increases are the ones previously announced: data $30 from $20, and 200 text msgs $5 from "included in data" package.

so what does this mean?

"they will also be offering an early upgrade plan for current AT&T customers that aren't upgrade eligible for $399 (8GB black) and $499 (16GB black/white)"

sorry but i guess i am a little slow today.

i am a current iPhone owner and AT&T subscriber. I logged into my account (as someone else here suggested) and went to "Upgrade Phone". There i have a link to "Upgrade Today" but every time i click on that link, i get an error so I don't know what it says.

does this mean i can upgrade to the 3G iPhone?

and what makes you upgrade ineligible if you are currently an AT&T customer?

Man oh Man I mean Apple is just flat out letting AT&T screw over the userbase without regard to us at all. I mean I think customer would prefer to pay a bit more upfront for the hardware and than pay less per month to AT&T.

Apple is getting a free pass on this one and should come under more fire for this. Im so glad I have the old plan and Im not getting the new iPhone GPS while cool is not worth the flogging AT&T is going to give customers and 3G is not going to be 100% coverage and Edge currently sucks here so Im not paying more for less so to speak..

People will complain either way. If the phone were more expensive and the monthly fees the same, people would complain. Now the phone is cheaper and the monthly fees are more expensive, and people complain. The phone is freakin' ONE THIRD the price of the original when it came out. That's great news.

But people like to complain.

I wonder how they are going to handle dual iPhone households where only one person upgrades? They show an additional $40 for a second iPhone - I'd hope the non-3G one would be cheaper.

Both of our lines show we are eligible for upgrades from the existing iPhone.

These new rates seem really high compared with what I'm currently paying. The previous plan included 200 SMS for each line (we have a family plan). It looks like that option goes away if I'm reading this right.

AT&T did not offer a corporate discount on the 1st gen iPhone. Are they allowing it for the 2nd gen?

Yes. Steve made this very clear at the announcement. With the iPhone now Exchange compatible they are specifically targeting corporate accounts. There was not corp discount on the 2G iPhone because it was considered a "consumer" phone exclusively.

I was told by an ATT rep that for 2 lines I would do ONE Family shared plan, then add 2 data plans.

Is this not the case now? This new plan looks like it bundles all of that together. The cheapest plan is $129? WOW! that's a lot.

FAN discounts?

Has anyone seen any info regarding AT&T FAN (foundation account number) discounts? I currently receive a 15% discount on my non-iPhone AT&T plan through my school, but I know the first gen iPhone plans weren't eligible for any discounts.

My excitement is waning. I think I'm going to go back and watch the WWDC Keynote to pep myself up for this phone...

BTW: After looking at their rate plans, besides the iPhone, why would anyone want to go with AT&T as their wireless provider?

Seriously. I pay the "Family Talk" price point on that release already for 700 minutes, 1500 text messages, my iphone data plan and another PHONE on the familytalk plan! Sorry, AT&T, I was on the fence to upgrade my current iPhone... you pushed me off of it. Way to raise prices across the board.

Also Apple, you've let me down too. I can't believe you've let this criminal (yes, warrentless wiretaps outside of FISA courts are criminal) company SCREW WITH YOUR USERBASE. If this is how iPhone is going to be, I don't think I want to get subsequent versions of it.

So true.

Both companies have become greedy bastards.

I hope the iPhone (should be called iPayTooMuch) 3g flops compared to their expectations.
