But you HAVE to get a new plan, you can't keep your existing plan.

And I've crunched the numbers ... astronomical price increase. My current plan is a 550 minute family plan. We pay $100 a month plus taxes ($70 plus $30 for data) ... with taxes it comes to $134.03 a month.

New plan ... no 550 minute plan anymore, I have to buy 700 minutes and it now costs $129.99. But here's the really crappy part ... with a Family Plan you either have to pay .20 per text OR buy the $30 a month all you can use plan. None of the others are possible. So now the cost is $160 before taxes.

When you figure in the tax, I'll end up paying more than $70 a month extra for the new AT&T contract if I choose to buy the new iPhone. And if I choose to give my current iPhone to my wife, the monthly increase will top $110 a month.
Pretty sure that isn't the case. Of course we will all find out on July 11th. Yeah your contract is renewed for 2 years but I am pretty sure you can do that by just changing your data plan.
I am confused. I pay currently $80 for 1400 family plan with additional 9.99 for second line. We both have old iphones and pay $20 each. Is the only thing new the $10 increase for new iPhone? Or did the plan price go up also?

I was pretty sure that we would just pay the difference, but there seems to be enough people that are interpreting AT&T's prices to read that you have to start a new voice plan as well as data plan.

holy moly...they raised the voice plan prices in this one!

Did they? It looked the same to me, at least at the 450 minutes level. 39.99 for voice + 30.00 for internet = 69.99?

They are tacking on the 5.00 extra for 200 messages, which is kind of sucky, but I wonder if it's because most people will upgrade to 1500 or unlimited anyway.

Wow... so I guess this thing about being a "current iPhone owner" wasn't true afterall. If you bought the new iPhone, most likely you'll only be eligible for the $399/$499 pricing.

Oh well, just gotta do one extra shift and its paid for=)

Just check your upgrade status on your online account. I am a current iPhone user and my upgrade status says available, upgrade now! Upgrade reuqires a new 2-year contract...

Nothing we didn't already know... data goes up $10 and text messages are no longer included so that is another $5 (which is a joke)

It must be an amazing business to be in. Unlimited YouTube videos, but the text messages cost money. Heh. Charge what people use, I guess.

In other news, I hope they finally make the annoying "viewmymessage.com" url hotlinkable with the little passwords, so I don't have to write them down on a piece of paper to check some not-funny message one of my not-funny friends has forwarded me.

(of course, the world's most advanced phone should have MMS by now, but that's also another thread)

A no-commitment plan is also in the works that would sell the phone without subsidization at $599 for 8GB and $699 for 16GB.

I'm assuming this "no-commitment plan" at the lovely $599 still requires you to activate in-store, meaning you would still have to tack on the $36 activation fee, and first month of at least $70...

AWESOME! I love the prices!

$85 a month - 20% corp discount = great deal

unfortunately, i'll have to pay $399 for the phone.

i'm happy with the cost; not happy with the phone "upgrade" specs though.

You are positive you will be receiving the discount on the iPhone plan? I also have a 20% discount, but with the old iPhone they said it would be taken off. But now the iPhone is on the 2nd line and the discount on the primary, which works.

So is it $30 for unlimited txt messages per person on the family plan?

No. It's $30 for unlimited text on the family plan. This covers 2 members and it is $10 for addition all members. My texting plan is $40 and it covers 3 people.

I have a question, though. If you already have unlimited data on your family plan and you're upgrading from a normal phone to an iPhone, will it cost $40 more? Also, if you are upgrade eligible from owning the 1st iPhone, could you use that person's upgrade to get the iPhone 3G if you are on their plan?

So I have to pay $18 in addition to $199+tax to upgrade from the current iPhone?

Stupid fees!

So is it $30 for unlimited txt messages per person on the family plan?

No... it's $30 for unlimited for the family... just like how the minutes are total for the family. What I don't get is why they don't offer some intermediate plan. My wife and I would be fine with 500 txt, but I really don't feel like paying $30 for unlimited, nor do I like the idea of paying per message.

+1.

Not bad...Not bad. It puts the price at the same as the current 1st gen iPhones...so this is about what I expected. I can sell my old phone for about $150 and make up the difference between the two prices.

Man oh Man I mean Apple is just flat out letting AT&T screw over the userbase without regard to us at all. I mean I think customer would prefer to pay a bit more upfront for the hardware and than pay less per month to AT&T.

Apple is getting a free pass on this one and should come under more fire for this. Im so glad I have the old plan and Im not getting the new iPhone GPS while cool is not worth the flogging AT&T is going to give customers and 3G is not going to be 100% coverage and Edge currently sucks here so Im not paying more for less so to speak..

For all those people that are looking to unlock, you're better off paying the 199/299 and then paying the 175 cancellation fee as it works out cheaper than the no commitment price.

Then why is that not on the chart? They sure make it look like that's only an option for single lines and not for Family Plans.

I am not sure why it is listed like that, but to make that change they would be making it for all Family Plans (for all phones).

Really AT&T would be better off breaking down the pricing so people wouldn't be having heart attacks.

we've gone over this again and again. This is more than fair for people who are already under contract.

arn

The price I'm good with. Its charging more and requiring a contract that gets me. But oh well, I'll still get one on July 11th. Im such a technology ***** its not even funny.

holy moly...they raised the voice plan prices in this one!

Seriously. I pay the "Family Talk" price point on that release already for 700 minutes, 1500 text messages, my iphone data plan and another PHONE on the familytalk plan! Sorry, AT&T, I was on the fence to upgrade my current iPhone... you pushed me off of it. Way to raise prices across the board.

Also Apple, you've let me down too. I can't believe you've let this criminal (yes, warrentless wiretaps outside of FISA courts are criminal) company SCREW WITH YOUR USERBASE. If this is how iPhone is going to be, I don't think I want to get subsequent versions of it.

So what about this special pricing for existing iPhone customers? I heard that we continue to pay $20 for data plans instead of $30, but that's nowhere on there. Is that true or did I dream that somewhere?
