Did they? It looked the same to me, at least at the 450 minutes level. 39.99 for voice + 30.00 for internet = 69.99?

They are tacking on the 5.00 extra for 200 messages, which is kind of sucky, but I wonder if it's because most people will upgrade to 1500 or unlimited anyway.

To Compare: I currently have Nation 450. I pay 39.99 + 20 bucks for Data and 200 texts. 59.99 plus surcharges

Now I have to pay $74.99 plus surcharges (69.99 plus $5.00 per month for text).

There isn't 3G around here so that's a $15 buck increase for nothing. ($360 bucks per 2 year contract)

Until 3G rollout this really SUCKS.

At least it looks like corporate plans might be active now. The rest of us are paying for those though.

why would you assume that?

I would think no commitment means there is no commitment.... in other words you pay for it and walk out, no activation.

I'm assuming this "no-commitment plan" at the lovely $599 still requires you to activate in-store, meaning you would still have to tack on the $36 activation fee, and first month of at least $70...

So what about this special pricing for existing iPhone customers? I heard that we continue to pay $20 for data plans instead of $30, but that's nowhere on there. Is that true or did I dream that somewhere?

From what I understand, its the 3G unlimited that you pay the 30 bucks a month for. If you're keeping your old iPhone (which means you obviously can't get the 3G coverage) you can keep your $20 plan. Correct me if I'm wrong people.

Also on a personal note, this sucks!! Heh just joking. I'm royally peeved at myself for switching to AT&T before all this info came out. This pushes me off the iPhone bandwagon. I'm not rich enough to afford that monthly bill (I'm paying for a family plan). Especially when the phone won't even have the 32gb i was hoping for.

I guess I will get the touch eventually..when it gets cheaper. Only thing is, I could have gone with much cheaper (better) Tmobile for my reg phone plan. Oh well....another 15 months to go.

Has anyone figured out how much it will be for business accounts? I can't find any information on this and the iPhone isn't listed in my business store on the AT&T site.

Wow... so I guess this thing about being a "current iPhone owner" wasn't true afterall. If you bought the new iPhone, most likely you'll only be eligible for the $399/$499 pricing.

Oh well, just gotta do one extra shift and its paid for=)

What will I pay for iPhone 3G?
If you are upgrade eligible and your account is in good standing, you will pay $199 for 8GB (black) and $299 for 16GB (black or white). Two-year contract required.

You have the option to purchase an early upgrade priced at $399 for 8GB (black) or $499 for 16GB (black or white). Two-year contract required. Coming soon, AT&T will offer a no-commitment option of $599 for 8GB and $699 for 16GB.

It would seem the brits actually have it good...kinda. We don't get evening minutes but we get more minutes overall and texts is included as is unlimited data at the same price point as before (also similar to american prices (£35=$70) and also get the phones free on the top two tariffs.

Nope. The $69 INCLUDES the data. So if you back out the $30 3G data fee the voice is still $39.

The only price increases are the ones previously announced: data $30 from $20, and 200 text msgs $5 from "included in data" package.

That's if you are allowed to back-out of the data plan...I know on my account where my data is listed there is no more "remove the feature" option. I wonder if this will be true with the 3G...?

I honesetly have no idea! I would call at&t and ask
( but they dont know much anyways so i might just be a waste of minutes)

we've gone over this again and again. This is more than fair for people who are already under contract.

arn

I'm feeling a "I hate you AT&T" vibe right about now. I switched to AT&T because I knew I wanted to get an iPhone at some point. Because AT&T has exclusive rights, I figured I may as well switch because I'm going to need to be on the network anyways. Now I'm learning I shouldn't have switched because I'm not going to get a deal. I'm getting penalized for switching before I was actually ready to buy a phone. So the lesson to be learned is, don't switch until you're absolutely ready to buy.

I wonder how they are going to handle dual iPhone households where only one person upgrades? They show an additional $40 for a second iPhone - I'd hope the non-3G one would be cheaper.

Both of our lines show we are eligible for upgrades from the existing iPhone.

These new rates seem really high compared with what I'm currently paying. The previous plan included 200 SMS for each line (we have a family plan). It looks like that option goes away if I'm reading this right.

That's $30 for the data on the 3G phone and $10 for the shared line, which you are already paying. No way out of the data fee since that is not shared. If you go 3G you'll have to pony up for the 3G data (and higher fee). I don't know how they'll treat the SMS messages. Might be worth a phone call.

People will complain either way. If the phone were more expensive and the monthly fees the same, people would complain. Now the phone is cheaper and the monthly fees are more expensive, and people complain. The phone is freakin' ONE THIRD the price of the original when it came out. That's great news.

But people like to complain.

No ... people are complaining because the product didnt get any cheaper. If you add the 15 per month extra to the cost of the 16g phone, it totals 659, or more than the original 8 gig. AT$T has really screwed people this time. There service isnt getting better, and there plans cost more with fewer features. Thats why people are complaining.

Prices don't look hot. I was on the fence with Sprint or AT&T. The family plans are iffy at best, and I text a lot. They charge extra for that. THANKS
Wait, NO THANKS

I would think no commitment means there is no commitment.... in other words you pay for it and walk out, no activation.

I'm not sure what the point would be unless you want to sell your new iPhone or are living abroad and happen to have a good rate. Since ATT is the only network that will support these, you might as well make the commitment now and save the upfront cost. Worst case, you pay the fee later (typically $200 - same as the discount).

$30 more per month for me???

I'm currently on a Family plan with 1400 minutes for $89 + $9.99 to add a second line and $19.99 for unlimited data and 200 txt msgs (on one line) = about $120 total per month.

According to this, I'll now have to pay $149.99 per month for the same minutes, no txt msgs but get 3G data on both phones. I don't live in an area covered by 3G (but travel a fair amount for work to areas that are covered).

I'm sorry, but $30 more per month and losing the Txt msgs is a bunch of crap.

Why can't I keep my current minutes plan (albeit extended for another 24 months) and just add a data plan that covers the 3G usage for a bit more $$?

I thought this was only going to cost a little bit more, not $720 MORE over the 2 years.

I am wondering the same thing, we have two iPhones and we were thinking to upgrade only one as of right now.....

"they will also be offering an early upgrade plan for current AT&T customers that aren't upgrade eligible for $399 (8GB black) and $499 (16GB black/white)"

sorry but i guess i am a little slow today.

i am a current iPhone owner and AT&T subscriber. I logged into my account (as someone else here suggested) and went to "Upgrade Phone". There i have a link to "Upgrade Today" but every time i click on that link, i get an error so I don't know what it says.

does this mean i can upgrade to the 3G iPhone?

and what makes you upgrade ineligible if you are currently an AT&T customer?

Log in and click on "phone/device." At the bottom left it will either say "this line is eligible for discount pricing ..." OR it will give a date when it will be eligible. If you've received a subsidized phone in past 18 months, you're not eligible. It's unclear whether ALL iPhone owners are eligible, as was rumored, or only ones who didn't receive a different discounted phone, since some iPhone owners are saying they AREN'T eligible.

This is not a good deal for me and I will tell you why. I was on Sprint until more than a month ago. My wife had the centro and I had the Sprint Touch (windows mobil ). I'm in the Air Force and when I moved to Mississippi my wife kept her job in DC and needed to keep her number. When I called AT&T I was told that the only way I could do this was to buy two phones that weren't iPhones and get them activated over the phone. Of course it was assumed that new iPhones would be activated through iTunes like 1G iPhones. The CS rep also told me I couldn't go into the store and get AT&T with Maryland numbers and a MS billing address. So I got two Curves for $41 with car chargers and blackberry cases - actually a pretty good deal even though they are refurbs. Yeah to not having Windows mobile and using phones that consistently work the same everyday!

Now I'm not eligible for upgrades and we will pay the higher prices for the iPhones. I'm not totally pissed because I can always sell one or two - I may keep one as backup - of the curves on ebay. I currently have a family plan and get the discount. I'm assuming I will be able to get the corporate discount I'm currently getting with the blackberry which takes the price down somewhat. My thinking is they weren't budging on anything price wise with the first iPhone, but things have changed with the changed agreements and subsidized price. If the end result is paying a higher price for the iPhones AND no discount on the monthly bill, I will hit the roof. The only thing I could have done differently was time this all so I was still within 30 days of joining AT&T. I probably would have had to get new numbers, but I may have been able to fudge my wife's situation with a virtual VOIP phone number. One thing is for sure, she makes enough for this to be worth the hassle :D

I love paying for 3G data when it's not in my area!

Good choice Apple, I see you see eye to eye on many things. One of them is choice is stupid, let's force them into a plan and if you don't like it oh well.

I really don't know about buying the iPhone anymore. I don't use all that many minutes so paying that much for voice is just way overkill for me.

I was hoping with a lower price point that there was going to be more choice in plans to cover people like me who want it as a PDA/Internet device first and phone second.

The ridiculously low level of reading comprehension being displayed in this thread is down right hilarious.

I didn't think it was possible for people to be so dense...

Thank you for your insightful, well detailed comment. I'm sure we'll all take it to heart (if we can guess what you really are commenting on).

You are positive you will be receiving the discount on the iPhone plan? I also have a 20% discount, but with the old iPhone they said it would be taken off. But now the iPhone is on the 2nd line and the discount on the primary, which works.
I get 20% off too with my corp discount. So much for my $40/mo bills on VZW and my crap RAZR. I can stomach the additional $30 though.

AT&T did not offer a corporate discount on the 1st gen iPhone. Are they allowing it for the 2nd gen?
They did on the plans, not the hardware.

Yes. Steve made this very clear at the announcement. With the iPhone now Exchange compatible they are specifically targeting corporate accounts. There was not corp discount on the 2G iPhone because it was considered a "consumer" phone exclusively.
And there is a difference between corporate accounts and a corporate discount.
