Been reading macrumors for years, just now joined to be able to post..sorry this is rather long-winded!
Thought I would be smart and go to Radio Shack to pre-order my phone on 6/15. Went in around 9:30 am, there were no lines, gave my info and walked out within 5 minutes. Around 12:45 that afternoon I receive a call saying I have to come into the store and be physically present while they put the pre-order through--I thought no biggie, I'll swing by on my way home from campus. Get to the store around 1:30-1:45 and see 5 people ahead of me. About an hour later there are still the same 5 people ahead of me. Obviously this is when the servers crashed. Some people got tired of waiting and left and I was able for it to be my turn in trying to get orders through. Around 3ish one of the Radio Shack employees informed us there were no more PINS, presumably meaning no more pre-orders, so the rest of us still waiting for our orders to go through left disgruntled; I do have to say the Radio Shack employees were doing everything in their power to try and get our orders through and I fully appreciated that. I went home and immediately tried to log onto ATT and Apple's websites to try and preorder it myself. In the midst of me doing all of this I received a call from the Radio Shack employee who was putting my info in for me that it had gone through--I thought cool, but in case something gets fouled up I'll place an order on my own and figure it out from there. Was able to get through on ATT's website with no problem, get all the way through to the confirmation. I waited a few hours and hadn't received an email so called ATT to see if it had gone through or not, and they had nothing--I thought it was probably due to the server issues. Went to class that night then came back and still hadn't received a confirmation email, so I logged back onto ATT's website and submitted another order. Finally, Thursday AM I received a confirmation email saying my order went through and got another one canceling my other ATT order. Called ATT to check and see if the Radio Shack order had gone through or not--it hadn't, so glad I was able to get at least one pre-order through.
Now my order status says placed on 6/16 (despite getting confirmation email on 6/17) and everything is "In Progress." I've had a hold on bank acct for $211 from ATT for a few days now. Hoping to get the phone delivered on the 24th, which for some reason I thought was Tuesday, not Thursday, since I am going out of town the 25-28. Anyone have any idea when the ATT preorders will be shipped/delivered? I believe when I had ordered it it had delivery for the 24th or 25th..
[Correction: Just checked my bank acct today and the hold is no longer there from ATT; was there as of yesterday midday]
