This is bizarre. . .

First, on 6/15, the AT&T E-store put $1.00 hold on my debit card. On 6/16, it changed to the full amount of the iPhone 4 purchase and I was able to view my order on AT&T's website.

Now, I can still view the order on AT&T's site (and it still says it's "In Progress"), but there is no charge from AT&T on my debit card in either the pending or cleared transactions. Also, the order is showing everything in the "Ordered" column, not the "Backordered" column.

Any theories on that one?

A year ago I went through the same thing with the 3GS. I ordered via premier right away, and the order remained in "progress" for the longest time while others who ordered via "regular" AT&T had their phones move from backordered to shipped or in progress.

And at the last minute, my status changed to shipped and I got it release day like everyone else.

I think it's safe to say if you ordered on the 15th before the afternoon and your order wasn't cancelled and it still shows "in progress", you'll get it launch day.

listen to this guy. calm down everyone.

mine says prepared for shipment. just checked also with the *639# and is now showing upgrade on 2/16/2012 so i think mine will be good to go i can't wait

I ordered before 9AM EST on the 15th from the premiere site. Mine shows the prepared for shipment line on the premiere order status and the "in progress" on the regular site. I'm also backordered. That being said, typing *639# on my iphone gets me a text saying I'm still eligible for a 2 year upgrade.

On another note, I had a charge on my account that was for the full value on the 15th. This charge went from pending to non-existant. I have an email record from 9:03 of an order confirmation.

Similarly, I called AT&T to verify my shipping address (this isn't stated online I don't believe). She said everything looked good.

Another line in our family plan ordered later in the day. The regular AT&T site says 6/16 (mine says 6/15). Both phones were ordered through premiere.

Another person I know went into an AT&T to preorder their phone. They told her you can't order online and that I must have been mistaken!

Looks like AT&T just wasn't ready for this in general....even with the announcement that something big was happening in June!

They had initially charged you the $1.00 fee in order to make sure that the account was in fact valid and had funds. Then they put the full amount on a pending basis. Companies cannot hold funds on a credit card for more than a a day or two, so once they confirmed that your account was good for the money they removed the pending charge of the iPhone and will charge you the complete price once the phone is shipped out. This is also why your "Backordered" column has changed. Before they check if the funds are available you would see a "1" going down the column. Now that it's confirmed it has changed to "0" and everything is in the "Ordered" column.

Hope that helps!

It's normal for that to happen when your reserving with your debit/credit card. The charges will appear, then disappear, appear and disappear. The reason it appears and disappears is because AT&T is making sure you have that money with you. Full charges apply either when the product ships or is delivered. Make sure the money you spent for the iPhone is ALWAYS there if not, the phone will not be shipped or delivered.

Well I've had the pending charge since Wed for the entire amount....

Question

I pre-ordered my phone at my local AT&T store at 3pm on Monday. I heard from many people that their phone is already on backorder for 2-3 weeks when I pre-ordered. I obsessively check the status of my order. In the beginning it was in backorder column. The next morning It was out of that column. Currently, the order's status is "In Progress." For those of you with previous online reserving experience, will my phone get to me on launch day?

Update 2: A reader claiming to be an AT&T rep says that the cancellations are just of extra pre-orders, and no one's actually out a new iPhone. That sounds plausible, but what then of the people who see their sole order status as cancelled?

The preorders weren't cancelled. the people who received the emails received them because they hit the submit button too many times. I work for AT&T and that's what happened. I'm a cust service rep and learned of the emails two days ago and immediately engaged a manager and contacted Apple. Apple stated the cust I was working with had 3 preorders and the cust stated they received to cancelled preorders. So that's the issue. No one's preorder was truly cancelled unless you hit submit more than once.

confirmation email

I got this in my confirmation email:

"Thank you for your recent order. Your iPhone has been reserved and is expected to ship on or after June 24, 2010. Your order details as well as activation instructions are included below."

My receipt from the AT&T store says I completed my order at 11:34am on the 15th, so I know I made the first batch pre-order cutoff. Does this email mean my iPhone will not get here on/around the 24th? Did anyone else get this in their confirmation email?

Status of my At&t order

Placed my order at an AT&T store around 11 am on June 16. I requested pickup at the store not shipping to my home. About an hour later I received this email:

Mine says that some phones will come between the 25th and 28th. Also, it said they they are trying to ship the devices so that hey are delivered by June 24th. I'm worried too. I pre-ordered at 3pm on Monday.

All I've received so far is an e-mail eighteen hours after I ordered stating:

Thank you for your order. Your iPhone4 pre-order has been received and is being processed
in the order it was received. You do not need to take any action. You will receive an email from
us if we need any additional information.

This doesn't even pretend to have a ship date planned, and I think they just killed my release-day preorder with Apple. Man am I irked.

Just checked my wife's and my orders and they are now cancelled. I ordered them at the AT&T store at 1:00 PM est. one June 15th, and now they are cancelled. Fun.

Since it sounds like you ordered more than 1, it sounds as if they may have thought it was a duplicate order even though you intended it to be one for you and one for your wife. I'd call them and see if they can get it straightened out.

One was for a brand new line and one was an upgrade. So 2 different accounts.

Right -- that's what I said - one for you and one for your wife. What I'm suggesting is to call them to try to get it straightened out.
I got you and was just adding more info for the record because it seems the $h!t is going to hit the fan or did it already?

I'd call them ASAP. Hopefully you can get it straightened out in time for you to get your phones by 6/24. Keep us updated.

I need to stop reading this thread, since it is driving me crazy. On June 15 I had a "0" under backordered. On the 17th it went to "1". I thought this was a good thing since it seemed to be progressing through the process. Then I started reading this thread and didn't know what to think. I ordered it early Tuesday morning with no problems, so I have to assume that the "1" is either a good thing or means nothing, since it was a Premier order. Hopefully, I can now quit reading this thread. That probably won't happen.:(

I feel ya. The more I read the more confused/worried I get. I am going to trust that my order will be fulfilled as advertised.

Ok, thanks. Honestly as long as it gets here on/before the 29th I have no problem. The 30th however, I'll be catching a plane out of state that morning, which means my family would have to ship it to me, and ughh that would be a huge mess.

I need to ask this because I keep seeing these threads pop up about order cancellations. I am new to ATT and preorders and on the 15th I preordered 1 16gb and 1 32 gb with a new family plan. Am I going to end up with my order cancelled because of ordering 2 phones?
