Catch 22: It is not possible to cancel...

Does anyone know if I purchase phones in AT&T store on Tuesday, and I still get my shipment, can I just sell the ones that are allegedly being sent to me?
I ordered 2 phones at the AT&T store on the 15th, both of which were to be delivered yesterday (June24th). One came, one didn't, although my AmEx was charged for both. I called FedEx, who said that although a tracking number had been issued, that only means that a label was printed. FedEx never received the package from AT&T. I called AT&T, and they confirmed this, but referred me back to my local store where the order was originally placed. Called the local store, and they were very nice about it. They said they were going to call the regional inventory center and get back to me with an answer by the end of the day. Time will tell, but AT&T's track record for keeping promises is not very good.

iDisappointed!![]()
There is no calm for the anxious.
I distinctly remember being told that my order would arrive sometime between June 25 and as late as July 6th. This was mentioned at the register at my retail AT&T store.
I suspect that if you take the time to watch a kettle boil, you will drive yourself crazy. I believe that is what is happening here.
There are two reasons to pre-order. One, to get the phone on launch day, or as in many cases before launch day. Two, to not have to fight the lines.
What is happening here, not only have the lines come to the forums, people get upset when there appears to be an out of order fulfillment situation.
Fairness is a very basic instinct that many higher level mammals have. It's fundamental to how we socialize. However the truth is, there is no such thing as fairness, when a machine is doing the accounting. We all can see this, in this unprecedented two weeks.
For everyone, this is an awesome social experience, coming to the forums and discussing what we know, telling stories.
I say be glad you are not standing in line today, for 10 hours, possibly finding out that when it's your turn, the phones are all sold out. Or along the journey some are turning out to be defective or flawed.
Everyone who ordered on the 15th will get a phone. However some 15th orders got bumped to the 16th and 17th. I suspect for logistics reasons, although desirable on AT&T's part, they were not able to deliver in the same order in which orders were received.
The bumps and glitches made it work out that phones were assigned as the planets lined up for each customer. The first come first served metaphor is in no relation to when you signed the dotted line. It is defined as to when your order finally made it to the warehouse for fulfillment. One reason or another, everyone who is left, has had the delay due to some computer glitch, CC glitch, extra red tape based on circumstances.
Please have some humility, until the last promised delivery day given to us, at which point I believe a grip is most worthy.
Apple and AT&T want to sell you an iPhone and they mean no harm. In general there are no lies here. A specific CSR could be wrong or dishonest, but that does not mean the company is behind that. Typically they are just as upset and frustrated as many of us here are. Talk nice to them and wish them a good day.
I wish you a happy delivery.
Well written and worth reading again.

Update on me - I got fed up and read about the apple store potentially having extra, so I went to the Apple store this morning and made an entirely new order/new phone number/no FAN account. I waited for about an hour - hour and a half - and was home about 2 hours after I left (the store is less than 2 miles from my house). I came home and cancelled the pre-order. I will be working on the port this afternoon and then will also be adding the FAN account back on.
We are headed for the beach tomorrow so I actually have not played with the iphone at all (too busy packing). It's activated and I used it for one short phone call to my husband, but otherwise haven't really touched it.
For those of us who are still waiting in the "in process" purgatory, call your Apple store (if you live near one) and get put on their "priority" list. Basically it's just a list of people who want a phone, and they will e-mail you when your name gets to the top. 24 hours to pick up. At least you'll have two irons in the fire.
That's what I've done - we'll see which comes first. The e-mail for the priority list, or the eventual delivery from AT&T. Either way, I feel better knowing there's another option out there.
