Now for those of us who order in store or online or whatever ONTIME and still haven't get any info yet from at&t, looks like we are screw.... i cannot believe NOTHING has change since friday~ WHAT IS THE POINT OF PRE-ORDERING WHEN THEY JUST DO RANDOM DRAW AND DON'T HAVE ENOUGH STOCK EVEN FOR PEOPLE WHO ORDER ON THE DAY ONE 10/7 ????????????????

If they were able to see into the future, and know exactly how many phones they would need for people who wanted them immediately, why would they need to do a preorder? They do it to gauge interest so they don't overproduce. Its a phone. releax.

Called the store (I chose to send the phone to the store as it's really close to my work) and they said they will be receiving a big batch of preordered phones this afternoon. Employee who originally took my preorder said she has personally witnessed people that said backordered online and their phone arrived at the store in past launches.

I wasn't given the option to send to store. She firmly stated that I wouldn't get it for two or three weeks and said it would arrive at the home. It's only in retrospect that I realized in-store orders (at least at my local store) were put on a back order list for direct delivery. They obviously did not want us showing up today to ask that we get their allotted phones today when we saw people buying them. Very unscrupulous behavior by AT&T and it's stores. They set us up guys. We should all be VERY pissed!

So you mean to tell me that the whole point of my pre-ordering was just so they could gauge interest in the new phones? I feel so much better now. LOL
It doesn't address the separate cue the in-store orders are clearly on. And the only way to explain that is that the local stores had the discretion of filling pre-orders or back ordering and selling their allotment today. It's pretty clear to me, and I defy anyone at AT&T to issue a denial to me or anyone that has contacted them so far.
 
You two are both in-store orders, correct? I think we're screwed for a week or more. If anyone with in-store Oct. 7th pre-orders speaks with CSR's on the phone or in-store manager's or employees, ask them to confirm that we are not in the same cue as the other pre-orders, and ask them if they had the discretion of using their in-store allotment to fill us rather than sell more phones to on line/walk-ins today. i bet you don't get a straight yes or no answer. I haven't.

I ordered mine via the website at 7am on Oct 7th.
If I don't get it today, I'd be unhappy, but on the bright side, I won a Kindle 3 (w/ ads (Really, a company like mine can't shell out a few extra bucks for a regular Kindle?) ) that I can use to read and pass the time :p

My iPhone 4 is pretty snappy with ios 5 though, so it's not too bad to wait a bit. I just don't want to wait more than a week though.

i think there is some truth to this.

they were ordered as "direct fulfulliment orders" which are not exactly pre-orders, but 'store inventory' that will be sent directly to the customer's address. So what will happen is the store's initial shipment of iphones must be depleted before they send out to these 'direct fulfillment orders'

I know that. It's not so much the phone, it's the unscrupulous behavior by AT&T and it's stores. Besides, my wife's phone is dying half way through the day at this point. She needs it for business. Please don't tell me to calm down. I have every right to be outraged about this.
 
Can't get a hold of my local store. I guess they are busy selling my iPhone to someone else. I did talk to someone in support at the 1800 AT&T number, they have no clue. They can't see any info because it's an in store order.
 
I placed my order for the 16Gig White 4S through ATT Premier site at 8am on the 7th and when I check my order status it still says Pending. I am guessing that means backordered? I am not real worked up on getting it immediately but I wish they would provide more status as to what the order state actually is.

OK, Just got off the phone w/ Premier orderline.

Well I ordered on the 7th at 8:30pm AK time and my status on the Premier order status "Pre-order". But the CSR said that it should be shipped out today. So I would say its going to be Monday the earliest before I see it. I was getting ticked off as there was no Status update since the 9th. That is why I called. Was on hold for a half hour. But I believe I spoke from a CSR over in Hong Kong. I went round and round Wednesday morning trying to keep from disconnected.
 
This is the 1st and the LAST time I will ever buy Apple, Mac or whatever you want to call it.
Pre-ordered the iPhone 4s on the very 1st day pre-orders were available. Was told they would be available TODAY. Went to Best Buy to get my phone...and they said they are still waiting on the shipment. Thanksa****ingLOT CRAPPLE. Way to do business. Don't make promises you cannot keep.
I took a day off of work just to get this MF'ing phone. I should get reimbersed by CRAPPLE. Thanks for wasting my time & money.

I will continue buying products that Mr. Gates produces. He has yet to **** me like CRAPPLE.

Hope your luck with 4s is better than mine.

I tried to get answers out of them last night as well. In store orders apparently were processed late. I ordered at 220pm eastern time and received the confirmation email. However talking to att last night my order somehow wasnt processed until after 530 so i have to wait 14-21 days which is bull and they can't cancel the order now so i cant even go to a store and buy one. Pre ordering through att blows

I talked with ATT yesterday to see why I haven't received a tracking number and they say since I didn't accept the T&Cs until 10/10/11, my phone will now take 3-4 weeks. The thing is, I never received any email about the T&C's or accepted anything. Now they say I can't cancel my order because it's already been "processed."

Any advice? It's frustrating to know that I could have just gone to a store today and picked one up with limited hassle it sounds like.

I was so excited to get my first iPhone!

Yes, the whole point of a preorder is to gauge needed production and interest. You think they're doing all of this specifically for YOU? No, they're a business, using a business technique to not overproduce and to create additional interest in a product. Building up all the hoopla about the release creates interest. Just releasing a phone- not so much. Its no different than movie previews - they pique your interest. If they just released the movies at the theater without promotion, not as many people would go see them.

I 1000000% agree with you that any store manager that doesn't fulfill a store preorder with received stock deserves to be punished in any and all ways that can be conceived by a meeting of the minds of the phoneless left in backorder limbo. But AT&T didn't decide this, store managers obviously took it upon themselves to do so because a lot of store orders are being fulfilled.

If your store manager has done this, once this all blows over, call AT&T and report them. Maybe AT&T does something about it, maybe they don't. Then you can decide how crappy AT&T may or may not be. I listen to people RAVE about Verizon all over - I loved Verizon when I lived in Texas. Now I'm in Michigan and you can't make a call without it dropping for more than 5 minutes with Verizon. I have exceptional service with AT&T so I'll stick with them.

Just play the waiting game. If it doesn't arrive today, then it should arrive Saturday (UPS/Fedex occasionally do Saturday deliveries) or the following week.

When the first batch of phones are delivered, it will clear up the queues on the computer systems.

I ordered from AT&T. Did the same last year and got my phone in the morning on launch day.

My daughter says the box is from ROC in Fort Worth, Texas. Not sure what that is - probably an AT&T fulfillment center or something.

You could go ahead and buy one, and then just sell the other one when you get it.

Me - I'd just wait. I know it's disappointing, but chances are you'll get it sooner than they are now predicting.

That's nonsense, you accepted the T&C as part of the online ordering process. T&C was for people who didn't order online (in store and/or over the phone orders, I think). I ordered via Premier site, never received such a T&C email and my phone is out for delivery as I write this.
 
Just wondering if anyone else who ordered a white 32g ip4s as early as 3 am PT on 10/7 is still showing backordered like me?? I see people who ordered much later who at least have a shipped status!
