Wow this got me to post for the first time since 2004.
Just hope maybe this info helps someone who was in a similar situation that may be pacing the floor!!!
I got my ATT order confirmation (16GB white 4S, NOT premiere) at 4:34AM, 10/07. However, at 7:31AM I received an email that my order needed further attention. I called immediately and apparently my credit card was rejected because an early payment had not posted yet. Unfortunately the payment would not post until midnight on the 8th, so I had to wait until Saturday at 8:00am ET to call ATT back to get the payment info updated. Later they put the full amt on hold where it has been ever since and my order seemed to be getting processed but I was still dubious I'd get it on Friday because of the delay in getting my payment info updated.
I called the automated number someone so kindly posted here and it said my order was in the warehouse awaiting shipment! I thought it must be some kind of fluke but amazingly enough, my order now says SHIPPED with a fedex tracking number! It's not showing up in the system yet and I've not received an email or notification but it looks like it's going to be fine, despite the fact I couldn't process the payment info til Saturday morning and my order date says 10/08! (On the order page there is still the old order on the 7th that didn't get processed due to the payment problem but I didn't include that for the sake of image size.)
Hope anyone else in a similar position sees this and can feel better there is still a good shot they'll see their phone this week!
