This is interesting... I've talked to a few agents, they all say regardless of the shipping date on the AT&T site, you will get the phone on launch day. I inquired about in store availability in new york city and they said just order it online, they have plenty of stock.
they really do not know what they are talking about....they say a bunch of things and is discredited through the dead time between pre order - launch day

Did the person who got the shipment delay notice ever get the second email? I’m considering cancelling my order and using his reservation from Apple but not sure if the upgrade will be put back on my account right away. Anyone know?

Reading these posts, so some of you ordered both on AT&T and Apple's site? For the same line? You can do that?
I did both. Apple has me at 17-24 delivery date. Att gave me 11/3. They won’t process anything until it gets closer to shipping so I figured I would wait until preparing to ship with att then cancel the Apple order.

I just received a second email from AT&T with the subject: “Your order is Pending” and the following in the body:

“We're sorry. We couldn't complete your order. Call us at the number below as soon as possible so we can get your order back on track.

If we don't hear from you by 11:59 p.m. ET on 11/10/2017, we'll have to cancel your order.“

So I called and the agent eventually told me she would need to cancel my order and reprocess. I asked her why and she just said that an error occurred when I placed my order. I asked for a supervisor and as soon as he comes on the line he says that he will “manually push the order through” and that I’ll receive an email in 15-30 minutes saying that my order is “back on track”. I asked him if my delivery date was still 11/3 and he said yes.

So far I haven’t received this supposed email, but my order’s status still shows In Progress, with a 11/3 delivery. I’m not holding my breath though :/

Didn't know you could do this. Curious what would happen if you kept both phones.

Also don’t your sign a contract when you purchase that first iPhone? How can you then buy a 2nd elsewhere?

I think most people ordered through Apple. As to why AT&T did not slip dates as fast. But if you look now, most of them on AT&T are at mid December now for shipping. So I think if you got a 11/03 delivery date email, you are good.

It doesn't make a lot of sense, does it? I'm thinking either the Nov. 3 dates won't hold, or they will hold because every post on the internet said to use the Apple store app. I would have used the Apple store app if given the choice, but I couldn't because of my business account. Here's to hoping I was forced into the best option! I ordered 3 from 12:30ish to 12:50ish and all say 11/3.

I tried the Apple store at 3 am. By the time I got through the system (10 minutes), dates had slipped, and zero availability for pick up on 11/3 in my region. I then went to AT&T site. I suspect that a lot of people tried Apple first. So AT&T didn’t sell out for 11/3 delivery as quickly. We will see if the orders get delayed. It will be interesting.

Anybody order from att as a NEW customer? Got the first email right away (along with a confirm email address message) but no second email and no sms. Ordered within 20 mins or so with a Nov 3 date.

What is this number? They canceled mine, didn't leave a number or email, and the phone agent says she can't provide any information.

I got through at 3:08 AM EDT on the Apple app. 256/Silver. Slick process, no issues.

I scheduled store pickup at 8PM on 11/3 but realized this morning I have to be somewhere else at that time. Anybody tried to change their pickup time? I’m hesitant to mess with anything ...

From a customer service standpoint its pretty frustrating that there is a possibility that the dates a customer is quoted may not hold or be accurate. However, in my experience this IS the reality. Especially with carriers. To compete with the manufacturer and with little knowledge of the inventory you will be provided, you have to operate optimistically in order to compete and make sales. With the risk you may have to disappoint the customer later when they are in a position with few or no backup plans.

Well.... Bummer.....
That is really weird. Federal regulations DO NOT require you to accept a new shipping date, are you sure that isn't junk mail? Click on the email of the sender and see if a legitimate email address comes up, it could be a phishing email trying to get info from you.

I'm starting to wonder if this vague email and attempt to cancel my order over the phone is their way of "legitimately" getting out of the mess they're in with the inaccurate delivery dates. As soon as I questioned why they needed to cancel and asked for a supervisor, they quickly put my order back on track without any explanation.

For those that did get a 2nd email or text, when you check the "my orders" on your account, has it updated from "in progress"? This is still what I get

I just got my 2nd email saying we're go to go. Expected shipment date is between 11/2 and 11/10. I didn't get any insurance, can I get Apple Care after I receive my phone?

Thanks

Yes. You can add Apple care plus up to 60 days after purchase with inspection.

All ready 10 mins early. I sat waiting/ refreshing the Apple Store App AND AT&T app waiting for them to let me in. Took 12 mins. :-(( Finally got better response from the Apple Website and ordered there (SG64) for Nov 17-24 delivery. Really upset with poor app performances...
