The earliest I ever went was 6 am on Thursday. Normally as long as I was there by noon Thursday it was good. I’m a college professor and have a pretty flexible schedule. It was always at an outside Apple retail store, except the first year (mall). The mall was hard to pull off being first. Mostly luck. I love hanging out with everybody. I may go out tomorrow night just to see all the regular groupies.

I've returned mine to an AT&T store before. It subsequently got lost and I had to go back to the store and prove that I returned it. But you can return the phone at a store.
I placed multiple orders, due to their system glitches. Nobody at AT&T really has any clue how many actually went through. Right now we know I'm getting at least 3 phones? Everytime they try to fix my order, they end up charging me for another entire order, and leaving the old one to be safe.
I think this year's excitement will last longer than a few hours. Really excited about the X's screen an new gestures.

Honestly I don't even know how they were magicly making me new orders that still had an arrival date of 11/3 like 2 days ago but they did but I won't believe it until a phone arrives then I'll return or sell the rest or something who knows this situation is stupid, never preordering from AT&T again.
No way you're getting your phone on Thursday. FedEx doesn't mess around with Apple's instructions.

Thats fine it will just sit on my porch for a few weeks until I'm back off the road. Not in a single place long enough to even redirect shipping with enough time to garuntee where and i don't even have a certain town i'll be in on an exact date so hopefully nobody jacks it. (In my neighborhood, they never have us sign for anything even previous pre releases, they just put on our porches. )
One problem is that just because a new phone comes out, apps and games don't takes advtange of the CPU/GPU that's stated to be xx% faster than the older phone. When apps and games are doing iPhone X upgrades now, it's to re-organize the notch area of the screen. It's not enough to keep your interest for long. It's not like when a new PlayStation comes out (say a PS5) and there are a ton of games that are ready to wow you.

Who in the world would know. If you have a FedEx account you may get an alert from then earlier than an ATT notice.
Good point. I assume they design it such that older apps at least work normally on the new devise? Other than the screen notch. So in other words, will my regular apps, that developers have not updated to run on the newer phone, work as they always did? Or should I expect bugs?
Reviewers stated that apps that have not yet been updated for the X are displaying with a white bar on the top or bottom of the screen to maintain the rectangular aspect ratio. Not sure why it would be a white bar and not black, but I imagine we'll see a plethora of updates to apps this weekend and next week.
I doubt anyone would remember unless they had an archive of their e-mail to look into. But I do remember getting a FedEx alert before the ATT status says shipped. It may even happen later today (the alert which comes from printing a shipping label). But I can't guarantee it.
