Word of advice: Buy the phone ONLINE. Prevents waiting in lines. Unless you like that kind of thing.

18 months has been thrown out the window. AT&T moved me up to upgrade from November to now June.

My ATT account still shows I'm eligible in November. Is there something I don't know?

No, there is not. That is what I was saying above. Some people are making a big deal about their upgrade eligibility date moving up from November to June 21 or whatever and think that because of this, that is going to be the release date of the new iphone. I am saying that it has nothing to do with that.

I really hope the iPhone goes to Verizon. I'm sticking with AT&T but maybe with fewer iPhones eventually on the network things might improve.

"Ladies and Gentleman we've been working on iPhone for a long time and we really think you're going to like it. Please let me introduce to you iPhone."

Scenario #1
- Enter same damn recycled iPhone that has been around for the past few years with a new case and new features that should have been included years ago, but nothing new or ground breaking (but will be deemed cutting edge, magical, or some other spun BS.)

Scenario #2
- Apple pulls an Apple+Intel type announcement and completely blindsides us with the new iPhone. All those leaks were fakes and the new iPhone will be as revolutionary as it was when it was first introduced.

I for one am hoping for #2. Apple has been #1 for the past few years on everything it does and I miss the real innovations.

But will it be 'magical'? ;)

I think you hit it right on the nose, I can't see it coming anytime before June 21, considering you would be shutting all those iPhone 3GS users from getting it on day one. I think Apple would want those loyal users to be able to get it right away, and thus, it will be released either June 21, or a few days after that. At least that is what all signs point to.

I dont know, seems like a lot of people have been able to upgrade for a while so those people alone could clear out the stores. A second wave comming up on June 21 could spread out the demand and work out better for everyone.

Youre not upgrading till June 21 even if the phone came out yesterday so why would you not want them to get some of the demand taken care of before that day? It would give you a LOT better chance of getting the phone on the first day youre elegable.

+1

If they don't annouce Verizon availability dates on June 7th, this will be a very tricky decision for me. I have the iPhone 3G now, but am dying to get back to Verizon (see numerous articles regarding service in NYC). It would be so unethical in my opinon to not annouce Verizon availability dates if in fact it is coming to Verizon in the next sixth months and let consumers sign contracts for one to two years only to have the Verizon version come out shortly thereafter. This will be interesting.

I'm in the same situation, I would love to go back to Verizon for the iPhone, but I highly doubt they will make the announcement that far in advance. If they make an announcement at the same time the new phone is being released they will lose sales to people willing to wait for the new carrier. If anything they will wait for it to be released then go at least 6 months for an announcement for a new carrier plan.

You can pretty much bank on June 21 being the release date if they moved all those early upgrade dates up to that specific one. For some reason my date was moved up to June 14 though. I purchased the phone in January of last year.

Buy online through AT&T or Apple? I'm going to need to purchase this at retail since I just recently signed a 2 year in January, so I definitely won't qualify for an upgrade price.

Lol imagine Steve Jobs saying "and the iPhone 4G will be available TODAY!!!" then everybody just runs out of the building to line up at the AT&T store lmaoo that would be so funnyyy:D

Haha. I Would serously run out pushing everything out of my way. And if I got it before the keynote ended walk back in with it

I would leave if I was there and that happened. hahaha. I'd rather have the phone in my hands sooner than hear jobs talk about his.

- REAL Multitasking
- 100% Web Support (not what Apple thinks the web should be support)

What is REAL multitasking? What is 100% web support?

As for real multitasking, since it is a mobile device, with a small screen, what besides Internet radio really needs to run simultaneously as we perform some other task?

As for 100% web support, I know of no phone that can supply that. Sure, some have made a big deal over the lack of support of Flash, bit that's not the only web technology iPhones don't support. How about java? Do any phones support java in a manner similar to that on the desktop? Maybe some do. However I am not familiar.

How much were tickets to that event, like 5M? Seems to me that a 4g iphone would be a good door prize for the people attending.

Really considering taking the day off and just hanging around the mall....but if I do that then they say it's coming the next day I'm going to be bummed.

I have a couple friends at the apple store - I can't imagine they would have the phones in the back room and NOT know they are there. So they'd have to know in advance if there's a pallet that cannot be touched. If that happens, it'll surface on the internet that weekend for sure. Most of the time if a product is launched the same day, its not at the stores yet - but you can order it online. I could see them doing something like that but then again, its a contract and all that mess so online would have to be ready for existing accounts, updated accounts, new accounts....I would love to have the same day launch but I feel like that might be too much to take on for the stores...probably be something like Friday at the earliest.

Agreed, as much fun as it is to imagine the best case senerio. If the phones were actually in the stores it would have gotten out by now.

We can still hope for the internet pre-orders though

Well, i'm thinking that if they do ship to stores to get ready for June 7th it's not going to be the end of next week or even that morning...but I can't imagine they would drop that on the staff unknowingly with no prep..and if they prep them BEFORE the WWDC it would be way too much leaked information. Usually they're just as in the dark as we are until things happen...and its for good reason. Can't trust anybody ya know?

Disagree. On the off-chance Verizon rolls at the same time as AT&T on the new iPhone, I think lots of people without iPhones will be lining up.

maybe. if it's on Verizon. But I still don't think people will spend $115 (ETF-$/month) to get out of a contract they might still be in.
