AT&T Says iPhone 4 to Be Initially Available Only in Black?

While I agree there is no need to be dramatic about such a petty issue, there is also no need to act like a self-righteous jerk about it either. If they want to whine, let them whine. Who cares? This is the internet.... if you don't like whiners, you should probably turn off the computer.
This would have been my first white plastic Apple product since the late-2006 C2D MacBook. I was disappointed not to have more colours (Apple can do great colours and colours give such a funky feel to most of their products), but not to have white versions is just annoying, considering that the pictures were out.
It seems that with Apple, half a year of waiting for what you want is the norm (of course, there are still those things that you cannot have, says Apple).

If this is true, now I question pre order store delivery. Maybe just have it shipped home. Idk!!!!!!! I remember something about 3G white phones being a bit delayed. Black seemed to be shipping first. Ugh. I don't want to stress about it. Just want to order a white phone and chill.

I personally won't buy a white phone. I don't think this demands an outcry seeing as the black will outsell the white probably 20 : 1.

I also don't want to pre-order the white one for home delivery...and not get it along with everyone else. That would suck.
Apple probably doesn't have enough in production so they will only be available exclusively from Apple.
My only concern is if i order a white one, since none of any are in stock, will I get an email the day before launch day saying sorry due to limited supplies my white model won't be delivered for 2-3 weeks? Not unheard of at Apple.... so that's my primacy concern. Will probably play it safe and go black. Can always exchange it within 30 days.
I really wanted white so sunlight doesnt cause as much heat during dash-mounted GPS navigation.
But I like the less-cluttered look of the black (sensors/camera hidden), and the little black plastic edge around the glass screen looks better to me than the white plastic edge. (Which would also show chips more than the black edge. I expect that thin bit of plastic is the only thing that will show much wear at all.)
So Im back to choosing black.

Remember the 3GS announcement? "Tethering available later this summer? And here we are a year later being told we can finally have it.
I'm ordering 39 iPhones tomorrow for our business and 20 of the employees wanted white instead of black, so I'd say your number is a little off. I think Apple is getting early reports that the white is in much higher demand vs. the white from previous years and is therefore squashing the pre-order of the white so they will have some for sale on launch day.
Anyone considered that maybe they decided to get rid of those holes above the earpiece on the white one, and therefore held off on it? Just a thought...
I do find it hilarious that people who wanted white will get black now because they can't wait a month or 2 at most for the one they really want. The instant gratification complex of some people is a trip. I just hope these da*n things don't sell out or something. Not experienced with pre-orders, but I'll be up before 7 to make sure I don't have an issue.

If it's true, how lame are they to wait 24-hours pre-launch to mention it.
I'm sure it'll be fine @ Apple though. They went through enough effort to showcase white on their site with the high-res shots and 360 degree peek and all.

I'm sure someone else said this already, but my guess is that it could be Apple restricting supply of the white model to their retail channels due to a slight delay in the production. Apple get's first dibs on the white, then once the white production catches up in a month or so, the cell providers and third party retailers will get them. Black will likely be the most popular anyway. Could be wrong though.
+1 on the instant gratification comment. Dunno why people wait a year then complain about a couple more weeks. Cause in a month it's going to be all about another cool new device someone else is selling and there will be piles and piles of iPhones to be sold, haha.
Are the pre-orders shipped in the timeline orders are received?
Because...otherwise, why would it matter what time you order it tomorrow?
If you have to wait 1-2 months for your color that means you have to upgrade again in 10 months and not in 12 like everyone else ;P

Secondly, the Vodafone (UK) plans showed an intention to sell black and white iPhones... so if it's real, the 'white exclusively from Apple' argument can go out of the window.

My concern too. I'll just take the chance. I won't settle for black. I'll regret it when I see the white.
