More expensive for 4 lines, fewer features (no hotspot).
Seems like just as as expensive compared to Verizon for 4 lines when all credits are counted.

The hotspot is a question though, although given the early state of this it's hard to say if it's truly simply not part of this at all or just details related to it haven't been surfaced yet.

There's also the potential of corporate discounts applying to AT&T's plan, while they don't apply to Verizon's plan, which makes that aspect of it better.

Right. We have unlimited and have for a while since we have DirecTV. I leave it on for my kids phones and off for the rest. No reason really other than just because they don't notice. I wanted to see if they said anything and so far nothing. Either its not something you really see or they are resilient enough to just keep moving on.
Here is how this feature works. You are essentially throttled when streaming video. WHat this translates to is that you will get the best quality video at that throughput that the service can provide. If their compression algorithms are good, your video looks better. This is how I KNOW it works with TMO, and I imagine its the same elsewhere. The difference in video quality between an LTE versus wifi feed is so negligible (to me) that I don't even bother switching it. Granted, I would need to manually switch every day, so it's a bigger inconvenience.

Tethering is a bonus for me since I use a WiFi only iPad on the go. I bought a while back the ZTE Mobley they sell for the connected car plans. It can be added as device on the unlimited plan. Granted you pay for the device like all others but it gives me access to data on my other devices.

It is for sure.
For sure based on what?

Well, I guess the good thing for folks who stick with ATT is that it probably will be a lot easier finding an ATT iPhone 8 when they launch. Heh.

They work as they always have. If you work for a company that qualifies, you tell them who and the discount is applied.
That part is better than Verizon if that is the case. Someone mentioned the wording of it all being just in relation to business accounts/lines, but hopefully it applies to regular consumer accounts/lines as well.

Any word on how good they actually are? We get four lines for $120 (135-ish after fees) with TMO (happy with their service) but I am all about saving another $30 a month. We are just about to enter escrow and every penny counts lol.
All I can say is that in my area here in Denver Colorado, Sprint used to be quite good. I quit them when the very first iPhone came out to go with AT&T. I have never had good reliable service with AT&T in my area and Verizon is just as bad.

Right now, I have a Sprint data plan on my iPad Pro and in my area, it is just as good and reliable as T-Mobile. I've been with T-Mobile since leaving AT&T about five years ago.

A few nights ago, I did a SpeedTest on my iPad on Sprint and got over 60Mbps on LTE.

And it is calculated towards 1/4 of the bill(assuming four lines)? The way it used to be is you got the fan for the entire account. Then they did it for only the data package and the main line on the account. I have not been with them for ytwo years, which is why I ask. I wasn't sure if they had changed anything since.

Edit: My wife would be eleigible for 21%, this I know. I am trying to figure out how I could caclulate this and see what she saves, because it wasn't a flat 21% with our last plan (though it was while we had the original UDP).

So $100 a month (before taxes and fees.) Just swapped to t-mobile from AT&T earlier today. So far so good. I'm not sure why AT&T thinks people are going to pay $100 vs $80 on Verizon or $70 on T-Mobile. They have good coverage, but is that really worth $30 more per month?

Best deal on ATT is 15GB Family plan with FAN discount ($100+15+15+15+15) we never use all 15GB and usually have about 19GB with rollover. 18% off with FAN. this of course is it when you BYOD to avoid that stupid $40 charge per line. Works with NEXT too.

About $140 /4 = $35.20 per line teathering/hotspot and ATT wifi hotspots included.

$220 is crazy expensive, especially if it does not have tethering as well.
I agree. Unlimited without (official) hotspot support is lame. We have this, and we never go anywhere near the limit.

Maybe. T-Mobile is absolutely useless here in Berkeley due to poor coverage, so it's worth it for me.

If 15 gigs over four lines works for you, then yeah. This is qyite literal 88 gigs of unthrottled data without tethering. Whatever is the best deal for you may not be so for everyone else. And of course, vice versa. Our family couldn't survive (we could if we had to) sharing 15GB a month anymore.

I'm thinking the same thing. This could potentially save me the 3x $5 increase next month. But it would need to included tethering. Otherwise I wouldn't leave the grandfathered plan.

That's it. If they don't show tethering included, skip.

That's basically where I am. I have the grandfathered unlimited plan and it looks like cost of this would be about the same after discount, without any new features (other than unlimited talk...not that I'll ever use my thousands of rollover minutes in the first place lol). Tethering would certainly come in handy at times, and it makes no sense they would continue to not include it when everyone else does. At this point I could save a couple dollars/month even without the discount and switch to Verizon and gain additional functionality. This seems more like a "okay, we have unlimited data too because we have to because everyone else does" response and not a "let's compete and gain/retain some customers!" move.

I have 4 phones on my plan but 1 is still under contract with AT&T until October. Can I still get this plan with the 4 phones for $180? Or is there an extra charge for the 4th phone that is still under contract?

You can change you plan, it has no bearing on the financing of phones.

so the new top tier carrier is now Verizon and T-mobile? Verizon has best reputation for network quality, while tmobile is catching up FAST (many reports say tmobile is now the fastest in many regions). tmobile wins for best plan (roaming, gogo in-flight, overall plan features, plus, you can't ignore occasional free pizza lol)

att is now expensive, and comes with no significant advantage than tmobile. I have both att unlimited on my iPad and tmobile unlimited on my iPhone, and I travel a lot. there are locations where att is faster than tmobile, but overall, I feel tmobile is faster on more locations.

This is only for families? I have a single line.

Argh. AT&T is annoying the living crap out of me with this non-sense. Just give us a real unlimited plan FFS. Also, no tethering = useless.

Actually, after having used T-mobile recently for 2 weeks, $30 would definitely be worth the better network of AT&T. I have no desire to switch from AT&T after having experienced T-mobile's horrible network, I don't care what John Legere says. I thank him for the competition though. :)

So what would the consequences of using a hotspot be? (with a jailbreak)

Grandfathered people were threatened with getting booted off their plan or moved to a 10GB share plan, but what now? I guess they could boot you off their network entirely, although that seems a bit extreme

I agree with you.. I liken T-mobile to how AT&T was right before the iphone came out.. it had a rep of having sub-par connection, but it caught up very quickly
