My wife and I are still on grandfathered unlimited plans...

She had a problem with her voicemail and called ATT today. She was told she must have DirectTV to have unlimited data and that she must switch now.

Not switching. We recently received letters stating our bills will rise again another $5 due to our plans. Was the operator telling the truth and we have to switch now?

So what would the consequences of using a hotspot be? (with a jailbreak)

Grandfathered people were threatened with getting booted off their plan or moved to a 10GB share plan, but what now? I guess they could boot you off their network entirely, although that seems a bit extreme

They cant boot us off if we are grandfathered in.

Argh. AT&T is annoying the living crap out of me with this non-sense. Just give us a real unlimited plan FFS. Also, no tethering = useless.

Actually, after having used T-mobile recently for 2 weeks, $30 would definitely be worth the better network of AT&T. I have no desire to switch from AT&T after having experienced T-mobile's horrible network, I don't care what John Legere says. I thank him for the competition though. :)

Exactly, T mobile's network is horrible. Travel with a buddy from work all the time and he has T-Mobile. Sso many issues, while I have none with At&T.

Any word on if or HOW FAN discounts may work?

The discount will be of

No! You are not required to switch.

I agree with you.. I liken T-mobile to how AT&T was right before the iphone came out.. it had a rep of having sub-par connection, but it caught up very quickly

the irony is tmobile is using ATT's money to beat att. att tried to acquire TMO couple years ago, and failed, ATT gave TMO $3 billion as a result. TMOBILE only boosted their network/service afterwards.

that's why ATT is loosing customers? everyone is lowering price, offering better plan, but yet, ATT is raising bills, for existing customers?

Beats me. Maybe something magenta.
maybe something 'not-a-carrier'?

Cricket uses att $35 with auto pay and 3 gb. The average person uses 3gb per month. These $70, $80,$100 plans subsidized those that don't want to work get a free phone and free talk and text. All courtesy of the richest man on the planet Mexico's Carlos SIM.

So that makes Four.

Sprint must be ******** it's pants now.

All they had was offering Unlimited (and T-Mobile was still taking them out to the woodshed).

They can't possibly lower their price points any further, right?

They can lower them, but it probably wouldn't be a good idea for their viability.

Smoke and mirrors. I'm on ATT, and there are no longer overage fees. They simply slow data the same as they do on unlimited. Hence, there is no "unlimited" plan. . they're just adding an expensive 22Gb plan.

T-mobile also allows for a Kickback discount up to $10 per line that uses less than 2gb of data per month.
You can enable it through the T-mobile app or website.

T-mobile also gives away stuff each week. Could be discounts for pizza, gift cards and etc.

Supposedly they won't throttle data automaticallyt, only with whatever the deem congested. Worth noting since people (in this very thread) have mentioned going up 60_ gb without slowdown. AFAIK if you have a data bucket and you go over that it is throttled 100% of the time until your next billing cycle.

This is only for families? I have a single line.

Cell phone providers absolutely screw customers who aren't part of large family plans.

It's complete anti-consumer nonsense -- especially since these plans don't share data buckets.

They got busted for this a few years back when people got stranded because the GPS couldn't function. it's a trickle, but it still works just fine.

LOL! This is a pathetic response. It's like their previous "unlimited" plan: overpriced and throttled. My current shared plan with them gives me 30 gb of data PLUS tethering and rollover data for less money. I love how they're all jumping on the "unlimited" bandwagon now, when the term is mostly a marketing gimmick.
