Hmmm...Snow Leopard glitches, the '09 iMacs with unresolved screen problems, and now this? Whatever happened to "it just works?"

Too much R&D was put into the iPod Touch XXL. You know, the "magical" non standards compliant thing.

INB4 html5 trolls.

How Apple has changed. A buyer just contacted me about a Macbook Pro I sold him a few months back, failed logic board.

I really feel for him. I'm sorry owners are having these atrocious problems.

It took Apple four months to fix the iTunes password bug...

I kept convincing myself the performance issues with Final Cut, my audio interface, itunes, and quicktime were in my head, probably because I paid so much damn money for the system. But this simply confirms it wasn't.

Sorry to read about that. I have this model, and have had no issues with Final Cut Studio, Logic Pro, my audio interface, iTunes, QT, Shake, Flash, or Vimeo. I'm going to go knock on some wood now.

Every 2009 mac pro has this issue. You're not testing properly.

Have any of you here who actually own one of these units brought your Mac Pro to an apple store for this problem and been told that they cannot solve your problem and that the behaviour is normal?

I have a feeling lots of people here are ganging up and waiting for updates instead of trying the normal steps to resolve problems.

Just a thought.

...and to the people who make fun of Macs for use in pro audio, they should maybe think a bit before they post. Last time I checked pro audio equipment doesn't use your SPDIF or mini jack output to interface. Pro Audio users require Pro Audio interfaces.

MacPro 2009 Quad Core Nahalen.

I am very disappointed with my MacPro, I started with the G4/G5, and now a 2009 MacPro.

The issues highlighted I agree with, it runs very hot. I have four disk drives fitted and the trays have become discolored due to the heat. It is not as fast as an i7 hack and consumes twice as much power.

It will not sleep in 32 bit mode, and the local Apple Care (Singapore) guy told me on the phone that my machine should boot into 64bit mode by default, which I believed was the contrary.

I believe that all us MacPro 2009 owners should lobby Apple about the unresolved problems.

I wonder how significant it is that Steve Jobs stated that Apple is a "mobile" company - I am an total Apple fan but disappointed with the emphasis on all in ones and the iPhone/iPad.

Mhh

apple suck more & more

"AppleCare representatives have been unwilling acknowledge that any issues exist, calling such temperature spikes normal"

apple sucks more and more, the bigger they are!

i'm an apple user for about 15 years and before they do the intel switch (what was a very good step, but only from the technical site), have had about 30 macs in this time, there were no need for any apple care, any support, nothing, since they announced the macbook to get all the students and switchers.

after that, i got no trouble only with my iphones (4 since the 2g) and the macminis (already 2xg4 & 1xintel), but with EVERY macpros (2x since the first one) EVERY macbook (4x since the first one) and EVERY macbook pro (2x since the first one).

and now i'm in war with them, cause i had to be the idiot cause of apples stupidness. i've bought, like 20 times before) apple care plans on ebay.com, cause here in germany they cost twice as in the us.
after online activating i get a mail from ireland cause they need a serial number or receipt!?????
after hours of mailing and on the phone, they definitely won't accept the plans, cause i've got not sn or receipt, which no one ever needed.

in the mean time the 1 year period for activating is gone and i've lost about $250 for nothing, after spending about thousand of euros for these pig shop!

i'm a really big fan of apple, but now i hope sometimes there'll be another competitor with such a good master plan and underlaying, brilliant os....

looks like the good time is gone, where you pay such fortune prices for 100% working hardware.......

it's a big big shame!!!

Not a Fanboy, Just an Observer

Sorry to hear that about those early Mac Pros. I got a LATE 2009 Mac Pro with the 2.93 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon Processor and have not had a single problem with it (I do a lot of video and audio work on it). It has worked flawlessly. It really is a shame that Apple is dropping the ball on this one. They really need to pick up their game on this and other other viable complaints out there.

But to all of those naysayers and "every Mac Pro sucks" and "all Mac pros have audio problems," etc., etc., etc. really need to take a chill pill. Every time there is a hardware or software problem, all the same ones come out being nothing but disruptive and bitchy.

Have there been some problems that Apple should be resolving? Yes. Have there been delays in getting thins resolved and fixed? Yes. There are lot of things we all can complain about (I know I sure can), but to dump this problem as "everything they do sucks these days" and "they have been going downhill now for a while" is just crap. While there are flawed items that exist that ANY company makes (such as Apple sometime does) doesn't mean EVERYTHING they build has gone downhill.

I've owned Macs since the days of the Mac Plus and can remember some real 'butes and some real lemons, but I also know that NO company makes EVERYTHING perfectly (even though some of you out there think they do).

While this is an issue, people I think also need a bit of perspective on the whole.

Can you absolutely confirm the flawless performance? Have you run tests?

If you can, Apple will be replacing my machine tomorrow.

r u drunk or something?????
you're right, when, yes when these very very little price difference wasn't there my friend!

in the last 2 years, i bought 1xmacpro, 1xmacbooks, 2xmacbook pro, 3xiphone, 1xmacmini which cost me over 10.000€ (around $14.000) and with 50% of the i had and still have trouble.
you mean this normal?????????????????????
for this money i can open shop as a pc dealer with a big full stock ;-)

I could just as easily say "Nobody wants Mac - all those text preference files scattered all over the disk without a consistent tool to maintain them".

...and it would be just as useless and misleading as your registry comment.

Huge difference, oh duplicitous one:

Those invisible text files on OS X can be deleted with no repercussions to the operation of the OS.

Conversely, delete, hack, alter, or attempt to extract the relevant settings for one particular application from the legacy-laiden repository called The Registry, and you're up sh*t's creek.

No comparison, speaking of misleading.

Have you ever brought your Mac Pro in for service for this issue?

after reading this issue, i'm so unbelievable lucky that i doesn't upgrade to a 09 model, cause i'm working with a late 08 one.
but more then skeptical to upgrade next month :-(

what i wanna say is, that it's such an insolence what apple say to this problem and how long it takes, till apple accepts any of the hole bunch of troubled machines and the time is growing and growing.

I have a 2009 Mac Pro @ 3.33 GHz. I made the upgrade to the W3580 months before Apple offered it as an option. Everything works great. I have been able to confirm the heat issues, although my temps hover around 55C-57C which is not as high as others have reported. Playing an MP3 should NOT cause your CPU temps to jump 15C-20C with the requisite power draw, regardless of whether the temperatures are "in spec". It's bad software, it should be fixed, and Apple should acknowledge that it's working on the issue.

Man-up Apple.

what's wrong with apple.. their +2000€ MacPro has problems playing simple mp3s? wow... (this is not "anti-apple"... but still... WOW:eek:)
If this were happening to a Dell, all the Apple fanboi's would say something like "you get what you pay for". I wonder what the appropriate phrase would be here.

MP3's are a performance hog and a waste of resources.

HTML 5!!!!!!!!!

;)

Irony: mp3 requires less processing power than AAC. Maybe Apple should change the iTMS to MP3s like Amazon and eMusic use to help their customers out. :3

My PPC PowerMac Digital Audio says "Made In The USA" on it. It doesn't get hot when playing MP3s or MP4s or Quicktime Video, BTW. It runs my whole house audio/video system and is on 24/7 for the most part. My MBP (the one with the supposed potential Nvidia issue) says "Made In CHINA" on it as do ALL current Macs. Coincidence?

People like to make all the excuses in the world for why we do business with Communist China that has about as much concern for democracy and human rights as Intel has for AMD (ok, that's a lie; it's a lot LESS actually). It's good for what? Business? No, it's good for certain corporations that save a lot of money in human labor costs that way. It isn't good for the country and it's sure as heck not good for the product quality level. I'm SICK of companies putting their flipping profit margins ahead of quality and morality. Most of this country's problems today can be traced back to GREED (on the part of politicians and on the part of the corporations that bribe them through lobbyists). Who cares about customer service when you can lie? Who cares about human beings or their opinions when sales are through the roof? Who cares about the country you live in when you're rich enough to buy your own dang island!?!? Clearly, I'm talking about most corporations, banks, etc., not just Apple here.

Given the comments Steve Jobs has made about Google and what not lately (arrogant, spiteful, mean, greedy type crap), I cannot imagine he's really all that grateful for his second chance at life some anonymous donor afforded him. After all, he got to the front of the line with deep pockets and a trip to Tennessee. Who values life when you think you can buy it? Who cares about anyone but yourself when you're "the man" and everyone worships the ground you walk on? The question is what good will any of that do any of these people when they die? If good deeds follow you onward, where does endless greed and cutthroat business tactics at the expense of people's jobs and livelihood get you??? I personally wouldn't want to find out. :(

You would be a person worth knowing!

To ALL Mac Users ! :apple:

I welcome you back ! :)

Sorry you all had to learn the hard way :(

Life is cruel in her ways :apple:

things don't always work out as you had hoped :(

But if you are ready to give my company a second try, you will finally wake up to realize how increasing awesome Microsoft really HAS become ! :D

I leave you with a link to a Very interesting Article

actually I agree to some extent... since 2006 I bought 1 MacBook Pro, 1 30in Cinema Display and now 1 iMac (and the replacement)... all of which had issues.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the fact that macrumors finally posted information about this AFTER it had been reported on 9to5mac and several other places when the original article references back to macrumors forum. Why couldn't this have been posted earlier? Its kind of a disappointment that another website beats you to post something that is happening in macrumors forum, and then you follow them and post about it.

LOL, that is funny, in a sad sort of way. On the other hand, some of these issues are FINALLY been shown on Mac-centric websites. Some objectivity is badly needed to get Apple back on track. You are better than this MacRumors.

Man. It's hard to find good cheap Chinese labor these days.

Dear Apple:
Having it posted on a major Apple Rumor site that your device works better with Windows installed than with Mac OSX is not a good thing. True, your computers are trying to kill people with sticky gas problems; but it is still an issue you may want to resolve.
Sincerely-
Amused PC User

glad I got an early `08 instead of an early `09!

that's...craziness.

I've never had the temps on my 8-core 08 go more than 4-5 degrees above "idle" temps. It's the coolest computer I've ever used, literally.

The loudest sound it makes is when the hard drive wakes up from sleep and makes a 'click" sound in the morning.

I regularly use 800% processor for an hour or two at a time with handbrake encodes or 3D renders, but again, nothing more than 4-5 degrees C above idle even at full load.

Apple needs to respond about this...especially since the problems go away under bootcamp. that's a huge red flag!

Same here, I own an early 2008 Mac Pro with no problems at all and it runs very cool all the time. Glad I did not get the '09 model from everything said and the fact they REALLY charged a LOT for the CPUs that wasn't that much better.

I do a lot of transcoding and 3D work too and it has been very solid. But unless they improve the '10 model big time and offer much better graphics and prove their are no issues then I will be forced to look for something else which is a shame, but Apple should support their users better. Also they should either commit to the high-end segment for those like me (which granted are not the general user) or simply say they are going to be a mobile only type of company and maybe keep just the iMac line. The Mac Pro users seem to never get much respect from Apple at times and maybe that market segment is something they just don't care about anymore.

What I hate about Apple

...is their arrogant behaviour towards problems. Almost everytime, the only solution for a customer is to file a lawsuit against them.

Wow, as an Early 2008 Mac Pro owner my heart goes out to all of you suffering from this ********. Why is it that it works fine under Windows Bootcamp? An Apple computer should NEVER...EVER...run better under Windows...that is sacrilegious!!!

But I am having my own issue with a bad riser card, so you can have pity on me as well...:(

For a Pro computer the Mac Pro seems to have some major flaws.

"Don't worry anything arbitrary will work, however once it comes to using your computer for the purpose for which it was purchased, please expect something to go stupidly wrong.
