if you stated macbook pro in your earlier post, this refers to the Desktop workstation Mac Pro, not MacBOOK Pro.
2.53 is a MBP model. and yours is probably a early 2009 or mid 2009 model MBP. depending on their cycle dates.

Yah I have the macbook pro laptop. So mine is not nehalem?

Apple never fixed the G5 PowerMac problem of overheating and "out of control fans" when a disk (CD/DVD) was inserted.

I've never heard of this, and my G5 Power Mac doesn't have any problems like that, nor do the two other people I know with G5 Power Macs.

Nope. Up until just the last two-three months, mobile variants of Nehalem weren't available, so given there has been no major MBP refresh in that time, there's no way your MBP has a Nehalem-based chip in it.

2008 is still the best

The 2008 2.8Ghz Octo core is still the best out there for those with a budget issue. No issues at all, higher memory and cache counts, new efi64 so you can upgrade it for the next 10 years or so. Super fast which is only really topped by the 2009 series in bench tests and a few programs. Until the software makers can play catch up to use the 64 architecture and multi-cores along with massive memory dont bother buying a the 2009 series.

Unless the 2010 is some daft, but again, not really worth the price premium unless you really need super power for scientific modeling etc.

Ps. I use my 2.8 Octo for 3D modeling animation and rendering, adobe packages with large photo and graphic files, Film decoding and encoding, programming, graphics work, normal work and games. Never stretches the cpu unless in heavy rendering, ram you can always have more ram even with 10GB running multiple apps and large files does clog the memory after a while. Buy yourself a 08 octo now, get the 3.2 version as it is more common on refurb store. Do yourself a favour, you wont see a discernible difference in performance in real world terms.

Well my experience is as follows:
I had a Quad PowerMac G5 and that machine gave me so many problems and spent so many days at Apple to be repaired that after 2 years and so many days that I could not use for work Apple finally agreed to replace it for a new MacPro. They did not actually gave me a comparable top of the line MacPro, something I did not agree as fair, since I paid for their top of the line, but at least the MacPro I have is faster than my Quad G5.
That said, my MacPro also had issues, but not as serious as my old G5.

Now, I am still have 1 years left on my Applecare and I am planning to replace to a possible new line hopefully coming now in March/April.
I hope this new update will be more reliable, but if the past is any indication, I am not holding my breath.

It is just too bad that the most loyal Apple people (creative professionals) are not a priority to Apple at all. Unfortunately Windows is not an option, so I just have to hang in there and hope for the best.

I guess when steve said iCEO back in 2004, that should have been a sign of the iCEO loving only iPhones, iPods, iPads....... I pray they fix this with gulftown refresh

It's the fact that SL is not yet optimized for HyperThreading or whatever you call it, which causes the performance issues. Gulftown is (I believe) a variant of Nehalem and would perform the same (i.e. just as poorly) until SL is fixed.

and yet with hundreds of posts across at least two boards if not more, there hasn't been a huge class action suit. they don't even have to prove a number of affected people to file. probably easier than a patent suit to kick up.

I laugh every time when someone refers to a discussion board to point out "major" problems.
Give me a break.

I think Apple should start "firing customers"

I am sorry for your Mac issues. I know its a pain when any product does not work as expected. However, your "most loyal Apple people" statement, did you sign up for that? What do you have that proves to Apple your a "most loyal Apple people"? Having purchased 5 or more of the products means nothing, having a nice chunk of their stock might get you some daylight:D

I don't recall how wide spread it was, but it made minor headlines at the time. It was never fixed and I suspect it has always been OS related.

Don't take this the wrong way.
The creative professionals are the one of the groups that for years have been extremely supportive of the Mac platform, specially during the Gil Amelio days.
I had at least 15 Macs, from desktops to laptops and most of the people I work prefer Macs all the way.
I know other industries out there might be as supportive as well. I am just pointing out what has been my experience on this field.

The only problem really is that Apple is starting to turn their back on creative professionals in not so subtle ways. I am one of them, and it really sucks to see what they are doing. They simply have the appearance of not caring at all...

unresponsive tech support

so what is new?

apple has yet to address Flash Player turning my MacBook into a jet engine for years! Whatever is happening behind the scene and regardless who is right or wrong, the end users is affected.:(

I just pulling your leg.:D I am not knocking your experience. I just see allot of people say they are loyal to this or that, and think that the corp they are talking about should take notice. I just don't see how that's possible. I prefer not to be loyal to any product line.

Speak for yourself, I have a 2009 2.26 octo and the only major issue with this machine is already being discussed in this thread. I've been using FCP and Compressor for a while now, and there's absolutely no way anyone would pry this machine out of my hands and replace it with a 2.8 2008 version. It's that much faster.

No worries,
I just wished I could change platforms or computers. unfortunately on my field Mac is the king and I really do not look forward to work with Windows or PCs at all. :D

OT from another Mac Pro 2009 Octo user: What is your boot time? How many revs do you see? Is that still the same as a new box? Looks like mine is getting slower by the day.

I had a similar experience with the Macbook Air back in 2008. Just plugging in an USB sound board raised the cpu temps and made the fan rev up, even when not playing any audio.

The point is Apple used to be the exception to the rule.

Some are comparing this to the flash issue and trying to paint it as a mere nuisance, which I don't think is fair. What we're talking about here is a fundamental problem that affects product output/profit, which is what most people rely on these particular machines for.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the fact that macrumors finally posted information about this AFTER it had been reported on 9to5mac and several other places when the original article references back to macrumors forum. Why couldn't this have been posted earlier? Its kind of a disappointment that another website beats you to post something that is happening in macrumors forum, and then you follow them and post about it.

Thank you Macrumors for highlighting this important issue. Apple needs to take responsibility for its problem here, and fix the situation. As the problem doesn't appear to occur under Windows 7 (bootcamp), it is almost certainly a software issue that can be resolved and sent to users via Software Update.

Apple, do the right thing and put a couple engineers on this.

Your pro users deserve that after their substantial investment in Apple products.

Good point! LOL:D
